dog the bounty hunter has served the public for years. now; in a taped PRIVATE conversation; he used the word niggar and his show gets cancelled.

so now our private conversations are subject to public approval. so what other rights have we given up? are we going to start arresting people for what they say? if so; most blacks would be arrested for using the same word.

so i guess it comes down to a double standard. blacks use the word "cracker" with frequency oh but that's ok. what is this world coming to?

I see what you're saying because it was a bullshit reason but A&E had the right to do what they did. They have the right to cancel his show for anything that they wanted.
  • MOST companies have job contracts that, besides in "right to work" states being able to fire you for NO reason, give them the SPECIFIC right to fire you for ANY conduct that reflects badly on the firm, at or away from the job.

EVEN Starbucks had that specific clause in their hiring package ... i remember reading it because it mentioned drugs AND alcohol ... like you could lose your job slinging coffee because someone saw you drunk at the bar.

    LOL.

So, private conversation or not, Dog was responsible for his actions and opinions reflecting on his employer ... that employer is a HIGH visibility employer that deals with PR daily ... they can't afford to have a "nigger hater" on staff ...

... i TOTALY understand why he was fired.

Sucks that his mouth in private got him fired, but that's just the way it works man.

He hasnt sacrificed any "rights" ...

    :(
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

hey, you wanna bandy about offensive terms, you can pay the price when other people hear about it and decide they don't want to associate with someone harboring such views. that said, his son is a fucking pussy and this is more proof you shouldn't trust anyone and should think before you speak.
  • So long as the thought police aren't actually dragging him away, I don't feel too bad for "Dog the Bounty Hunter" (who the fuck is this, BTW)??? If his network decides they don't like the word being used, so be it.

That said, people should really get a spine, but they have no obligation to do so.

agreed.........and in this day and age, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a private conversation anymore. Someone is always there with a video camera, a cell phone camera/voicemail, or an illegal wiretap ;)

Do you think the n word and cracker are on the same level?

And it became a public statement when his idiot son sold the tape to a tabloid.

And for blacks saying the same same word, yes it's a double standard, but that's how life is... Sarah Silverman says ignorant things about women and somehow she's funny, if a male comedian did it would be offensive. Jeff Foxworthy's whole career is about making fun of rednecks, but if someone from New York City says what he says it would be offensive instead of funny.

a&e has the right to fire him for no reason. BUT; they gave a reason. something he said in a private conversation. they didn't take into consideration that he deals with people all day long that use the word niggar in their regular conversation. i have a black neighbor and it's nothing to say "niggar say what?". that's how he talks and it's natural in the conversation.
now tell me this: would dog's show have been cancelled if he were black and said the same thing?????

you can't tell me he said it in the same sense black folks use it talking to each other. he said he didnt want his son's nigger gf filing a lawsuit to come after his money.
  • Yeah Dog was buggin. Damn....he messed up. Ironically he was talking about the very thing that ended up happened to him.

A&E is totally within their rights.

i have no peoblem using the word niggar for those who deserve it. if they don't like it; they can kiss my arse. maybe they'd prefer being called a mother f&^*#* because that's more accepted.

who deserves it? are you saying nigger and motherfucker are interchangeable terms? it is the fact that you equate them that allows for blacks to say it and whites not to. becos blacks have tried to reclaim it by using it as a term of friendship, whereas whites still view it as a derogatory insult, as you just evidenced.

lemme guess, when you were a famous musician, right before you were a famous multimillionaire business man, which was before you became a john wayne buffalo raisin redneck cowboy, you were in one of those white power heavy metal groups?

Ok. If you have no problem using the word, then don't fire those who use it. Seems pretty straightforward.
  • hasn't this dude been convicted of crimes? Sounds like a great public servant, yeah?

The real crime is that nobody can use the word niggardly these days.....

  • I think this goes hand in hand with human nature, and bleeds into a little of what was discussed in earlier threads today with Israel and the international community's attitude towards unfair treatment.

When a race of people have been abused in the past there's an subtle unspoken rule of respect carried forward. Blacks have a history of oppression, same with the Jews, amongst others. White people in general have never really had any serious levels of oppression throughout history, so when it happens, something unspoken seems to stir.
