lots more reasons why they didnt play the south. but I wont get into that here
Why not? I'm curious!! Let's evolve theories. I think it has to do with ticket sales. But they could always play smaller venues so us fans stranded down here get a chance too.

The only people that sell out shows around my area are country stars. And after going to the last couple of shows I've been too...I'm surprised anyone I enjoy comes around.

What puts me off sometimes when celebrities use their audience to express themselves politically is they often times lately are very abusive and indignent when not everyone agrees, like how dare they not agree after all I am the enlightned star. I think Eddie has tempered himself somewhat in this area and is not pushing it as much lately. He states his positions usually with a couple of cheap shots and lets it go and doesn't shape the whole show around the topic. Hey V baby whats happening in your area are the people just getting out of hand being rude drunk or what?

No, I was talking more attendance wise. The NIN nail show I went to wasn't even half sold (rounding down). But he bashed bush a couple of times and got some cheers. Didn't hear any boo's but that's probably due more to the fact that it was young people in attendance. Also, the G'N'R show sold shit. But Toby Keith is expected to sell out.

Yeah, I should have caught that. It's no surprise as the south has such a strong military support base that Toby and the like would be the big draws. I think that it's kind of hard for the average southerner to relate to the more cutting edge, cerebral or just plain off the wall type acts. They sure could get behind some ass kickin country rock or southern rock though ( back in the day). I'm not being critical I consider myself a southerner for the most part. I have also noticed that some acts will test the waters during a show with the political stuff and if it flys with an audience they will run with it or if not even change course sometimes.

By the way, NIN was an awesome fucking show. Although it was just a tad too planned for me.

Congratulation's.U have made the most stupid degrading and thoughless remark of the whole year there "boy".
I’d thank my lucky stars,

‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

who gave that right to me.
Dino, I heard you say Pearl Jam is always bitching, regardless of who's in office. I just need some clarification on something, so it doesn't matter who's in office...you're going to support them no matter what?

I take Eddie's philosophical meanderings with a grain of salt when I realize that the man has the same level of education as Sean Hannity. He can spout off about whatever environmental jibber jabber he wants to, but in the end, I have my beliefs and he has his.
PJ is still better than anything else out there, though.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

He had the balls to state a contrary opinion on a board where he could expect to be annihilated by his view. And everyone is guilty of a typo here and there. These aren't term papers, they are just posts.
I do agree with him on one level. I have been a fan of this band since the beginning. When I was younger, I embraced the activist side of the band when they were out there doing things like getting involved in Vote For Choice. This was a cause I could get behind, and added to the national debate. It was refreshing to see Rock get back to politics when we had just come out of the culturally void 80's.
However, since about the time of Riot Act, Ed in particular, has taken his acitivsm to more of a level of obsession. I think the constant harrassment of George Bush started to lose me around that time. I think Ed has every right to say what he wants publicly and get involved with any kind of political actisivst group he wants. Tis a free country.
But I am largely a fan because of the music. When the band, and mostly Ed, was spending it's time obsessing on the politics, something got lost in the music, and alot of people got off the Pearl Jam bus. Myself included. Not because I disagreed with him. I didn't. It's just that I got sick and tired of paying to see shows and buy albums that were being abused to get a political opinion across.
Case in point. Tim Robbins. If I want to see something by Tim Robbins, ill catch Mystic River. But to force his lame ass down my throat at a Pearl Jam show is a bit much. Enough already.
So to the point, just shut up and play....I agree. That's not to say Ed shut shut up about his views, but not all of the fans agree, nor do they want to pay their hard earned money to have his views jammed down their throat....
I just think Ed became a little obsessed and lost focus. Thank god for Avocado. I think he's back to the music now.
I just came across this in another forum.
Earlier this week I was looking for Roger Waters tickets on Craigslist and came across a 'warning' someone posted for those going to the show that night. They had seen the concert the night before and walked out of their $600 seats because the show was too anti-Bush, and were now warning people who were going the next night:
__
WARNING!!!!! Roger Waters : Was not there to perform but to relay his unwanted politcial view, just went last night and including us many people walked out, My opinion you don't come to our country and bash our president, etc. We figured the first time ok let it ride, second time starting to feel like what exactly where we doing here a concert or a anti Bush political rally, the third time had this high flying pig etc, just was not cool. Keep in mind this was not an easy thing to do when you paid 600 a ticket for the front. We love Roger Waters but as an american we could not accept this, Save your money who knows what he is doing with the profit. What a shame it could of been a good thing. Now that I know would not pay a penny, My fiancee bought a shirt lost it in the Bathroom floor, said leave it there it's where it belongs. Not a whole lot bothers us,But the line was drawn.
__
There was an inflatable pig that floated over the crowd which said "IMPEACH BUSH" across the pig's ass, and on a big video screen they had the lyrics to a song called Leaving Beirut, which criticizes the Iraq war and mocks Bush and the Christian right. There was also lots of anti-war imagery on the screen (not a surprise given the music of Pink Floyd and R.W.). But I thought it was too bad this guy let the politics ruin it for him, because he missed a great concert.
So I guess Dino283 won't be seeing Roger anytime soon.;)
That was THE best show of last year. Amazing. I wasn't offended by the Bush message. It was subtle. He never said a word about politics, he just performed and allowed his political message to subtly waft across the audience. I found it quite creative, and of course at a a show like that a pretty little pink thing flying around is nothin but fun if ya know what i mean...
i wouldn't go see this show either but not because of the political message, i respect evryones opinion even artist from other countries after all this war has affected the entire world. my reason being i rather see a complete PINK FLOYD line up not jus WATERS pumpus asses the whole lot of them ...
Personally, I like PJ's political views more than there music. If you can believe that.

Why would anyone be surprised at the band's political statements? They've been consistent about their stance since day one.
This seems like a trivial complaint.
Good for you, an awesome show is an awesome show taken as that, I know what you mean about too well planned as the namesake of this forum is Pearl JAM
