There are plenty of complete idiots out there with college degrees and there are also plenty of brilliant people who lack them. College degrees really don't mean shit when it comes to intelligence.
Yea, like me, I don't have a college degree, but I know what Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and Dermatofibrosarcomaprotuberance are. Ok, that doesn't prove anything I guess.

Im sure he does too. Im just saying, the cheap shots aren't necessary. The guy has an opinion that obviously is not a popular one. But it's his opinion. Speak to the topic rather than insult the guy...

A university degree does not mean one is intelligent. But is does attest to the fact that one is educated in at least one field of study and is capable of learning. You cannot assume this of an educated person.

Personally, I like PJ's political views more than there music. If you can believe that.
I think they're one and the same thing. They have to be if he's being honest about his art. His words are his words. They come from the same place as his politics. I don't, however, think that Pearl Jam are a political band in the vein of, say, The Dead Kennedys or Crass, as i believe that their message - if they in fact have one - transcends politics. It doesn't end at politics, because it's bigger and brighter, and wider than mere politics (politics in the strict/literal sense of the word - because of course, everything is politics to a degree. Every human relationship is politics). Pearl Jam are true artists, and art will always transcend politics.

I think it's pretty plain that every human being is capable of learning. I can't even believe that we're discussing Ed's intelligence. It's absurd. He doesn't need to be a fucking professor to have an imagination and/or a valuable opinion.
I was just at a meeting hosted by the association I work at. I felt down because the people that were able to make changes in their communities had degrees with specializations; i.e., architecture. Actually, I think what they are doing is great! I just didn't know what I could do. I thought Well, architects can change their communities, as well as teachers, and others with a specific degree or specialization. I thought I had to go back to school and get a Master's in something if I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way; to be a part of the planning process for something greater, but what kind of change can a person do with a Master's in Gastronomy?
I'm currently knitting blankets for Project Linus, and I do other stuff, but it's not part of the planning of a community. I don't contribute to a front lines change.
Then I thought of the members of Pearl Jam. They have the talent and the guts to get their message out, and affect change, no matter how big or small for their communities. They donate a portion of each concert to a local chartity, and they contribute in other ways. They have the musician skills, as an architect has skills or an engineer has skills. From thinking of them, I realized it is not the degree, if I'm not willing to get the degree, that will result in a contribution from me to my community. It is the willingness to do so. They are part of planning processes, maybe towards a broader community, but I just felt good thinking of them. I have to figure out what I'm passionate about, and just get the guts to do something. This may be a passing thing, or maybe I'll be able to find my groove, and feel like I'm contributing in some way at the same time. I think they are inspiring as were the people I heard from today.

False. They do mean something when it comes to intelligence. They don't mean everything though.
College degrees are often difficult to obtain and take hard work and intelligence, especially if obtained in a difficult field.

A large majority of the work simply involves learning by rote. You simply read and memorize other people's words and ideas. It takes hard work, and the ability to apply yourself, but as for intelligence? There are many greatly influential people in the world of ideas throughout history who received no formal education. In fact most of the worlds famous writers and artists were self educated.

We miss you Dino. Come back, please. I need more hilarious, non sequitur posts. Jammastae just doesn't do it for me.
i see. well, "we" in the collective still think dino's not exactly a beacon of intelligence from that post.
