So, americans seeing themselves as the leaders of the free world, cause them to be more violent, and with guns? Not sure I followed your argument there...
But another theory could be that the immense differences between rich and poor and the lack of significant redstribution to large portions of the populace breeds a more desperate and potentially violent environment, as many poor people have nothing, and hence nothing to lose. This is what is often seen in other countries the US dont want to be compared with. That one sit better by you?

spot on again. but i was born dirt poor; and worked my way up without any government help. every step i took i was kicked back 2. but i didn't give up so i believe being poor is a choice. babies don't have to have babies. girls can keep their legs shut until they're able to care for a child. you can stand at stoplights and wash windshields. people from abe lincoln to ron reagan worked themselves out of poverty.
i don't consider myself a part of society anymore. i'm too far detached from it.

In other words, OutofBreath, Americans are always in a state of living on the curb of Hollywood boulevard and the hobo camp in the brush a few blocks away fucking anything that comes their way, and hoping it doesnt' produce children, and if it does, well, i know how to raise buffalo from the best of them. Amen.
The crazy thing about this story, to me, is that shit like this has become so common, that , with the execption of the families directly affected by this, it is already taking on a feel of yesterdays news. i heard reports last night that the mall, not Von Maur, but the rest of the mall would probably be open for business today. I havn't checked. i'm "somwhere in middle America" and i guarantee this mall will be just as busy this weekend as it was last weekend. Hell, i may something i need to pick up there. First graders where i'm teaching this morning were saying shit like "Crazy guy almost killed Santa".
Of course the mall will be packed. The florist will be doing a brisk bizniz as the people stop by for a little something to toss on the area where it all went down. Then continue to "shop til they drop".
I found this list and there wasn't as big of a discrepancy as I thought there would be at the top of the list. Just thought some would find it interesting.
brilliant. but if the us has gunownership close to other european countries; why all the hoopla about americans owning guns? maybe we don't have a lot of gun owners on the board so the board is biased.

...think that Americans are getting numb when it comes to death and violence..
We'll continue to see situations like this....it won't stop and will increase.....its too easy for an american human to get a gun and kill folks......and more guns will just breed more violence....for those that think we should all be armed.....well your not really appreciating the mental capabilities of the average human...but hey it is a form of population control and the vast majority of folks that get killed by guns..are gun owners or family members of gun owners...It's evolution baby"
No, I suggest governance that is essentially social democratic, providing the basics for all, so that you wont have desperate people with guns shooting anyone wearing a watch to grab it. When you have a somewhat egalitarian and safe society, the amount of looters and thieves go down. There is a connection between "on your own, punk" and thieving/looting... Thieving/looting brings the need for guns for all.

oh dan. you lost the plot. jeremy told us a couple pages back that he lived in south london in an area with gang wars and shootings every (or did he say almost) everyday. jeanie told us that the gang wars down under mirror 1920's chicago.
as far as robbing from the rich to give to the poor; that's just state sanctioned robbery. that takes away incentive. when you're looking through the eyes of a 16 year old kid; if i work you take half my money away; if i don't work you'll give me money. how many 16 year olds would want to grow up and go to work. welfare is why we have so many layabouts in this country.

i take it you didn't look at the gunownership chart.
look in big cities that have strict gunlaws and look at their gun crime rates.
it's your parenting skills that breed violence. look at the video games you let them play; look at the movies you let them watch. lack of family contact breeds violence. i had my own business cutting lawns at age 8. my dad helped out with the books and profit margins but i did the actual work; and he bought the tractor. if i wasn't in school or working; i was studying. i gave up a lot but retired at age 40; as planned. now i enjoy life while i'm young enough to enjoy the things i like to do. i never had time for violence. i never had time to get into any trouble.
so; if a vast majority of the folks being killed.... are gun owners or their families; DOES THAT MEAN WE DON'T HAVE CRIMINALS USING GUNS? this is a news flash to me.
oh dan. you lost the plot. jeremy told us a couple pages back that he lived in south london in an area with gang wars and shootings every (or did he say almost) everyday. jeanie told us that the gang wars down under mirror 1920's chicago.
And still, nowhere close to the US stats-wise.

And yet, in all the welfare paradises in the world, people work in every one of them. Maybe because it isn't much of a rewarding existence to do nothing at all? Maybe it sucks after a while not being respected by the people around you for being a lazy fuck? Work ethic is separate from welfare programs anyway, going by the data available.
Only if work is on par with slavery (meaning things you do that you hate but you must in order for the master to pay you) can that example of yours have any meaning. Is that how you view work?
But I get it. You're the libertarian tax=theft bunch. I wont get further into that here. I have done so at length before on this forum.

I shop there rather frequently actually. It's unfortunate these situations are coming to a school/public places near us all until the end of time.
Question, does this mall have security guards, if so, are they armed guards? Most high end stores employee security guards. Malls usually put on extra guards around the holidays.
Sorry to hear about this event. Take care.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.
... but I wanted to comment - if it is said in this thread elsewhere, forgive me!
When a knucklehead runs out on a baseball or football field during an sporting event, the directors and producers are smart enough to not show the commotion on TV. This was done so people didn't become "famous" for their antics, and as a whole, the practice of running onto fields has virtually stopped. Rather than give them the spotlight for a few minutes, security or angry players take matters in their own hands and deal with these people in a way that would make others think twice about darting out.
Not making kids the flavor of the month for these actions would likely prevent many of these kids from taking these reprehensible actions. I would agree it's time to take the spotlight off the criminals, and put some positive stories back on the news.

i've always enjoyed work. i've worked in slaughter houses and i've stood knee deep in cow manure in shorts and bare feet; shoveling out a loafing shed after the spring melt. i picked sweet corn in southern wisconsin for roadside sales. i've done about everything people say an american won't do. then i look back and see these layabouts who won't disrespect themselves by sweeping floors. at 11 years old i was sweeping floors in a machine shop for 50 cents an hour. that's about 1/4 of a british pound.
so if you want something from me; you're gonna have to try to take it. i did my charity and humanitarian thing already. i live for me now.

you best be checking the gunlaws in the states you're going to. if you drew back on anyone in this town; you'd be dead before you could throw the punch. and that's a fact you can take to the bank.

And so goes for most people, and so goes for most countries. The welfare lazy-asses exist, but are sensationalized to the degree (at least in the US I gather) that all welfare is viewed as donating money to lazy fucks who wont get off their asses. When infact most of it goes to honest working people honestly needing and qualifying for various reliefs. Yes, I said most.

i can give you a list of people working the system. i've got these neighbours that take in abused kids as foster parents. gread deed right? they use the kids as slave labour but they get $2400/month PER BLOODY CHILD. they don't work at all. recently they sent a girl back and traded her for 2 brothers. the brothers can stay in the same room and they needed to increase their income. these children get nothing from them. 1 new outfit for school. last year i spent more for the gifts i gave those children than they did. i later found out that after the neighbourhood christmas; they returned the kids presents. except the ones for their own daughter. she got a phone and a laptop. and 2 months ago their daughter got a brand new pick up truck for her 15th birthday. there's no law here so people don't worry about drivers licenses or things like that.
these are the kinds of things i see.
The thing about the "famous" factor is that this is a big news story so will naturally get big news coverage. What is the solution then? don't talk about WHO did it? But people will WANT to know who did it, why, etc.--what can you do about that?
And HUGE surprise that some on here use it for an opportunity to bash the USA.
The kid was MESSED UP--that is the subject.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
