The thing of it is, even if you could take the gun out of the hands of Joe America, then you have a racket like the Prohibition days. And that's all it would be, a racket. No less violent deaths, no less guns, and probably more crime.
Ours is a problem of social and economic structure.
The value of this post is: $3.21
you're absolutely right. the gun black market began in 1968. as soon as you make something illegal; in this case illegal for some; or make it hard to get; you can bet someone is going to capitalize on it. the problem here is that black markets have a way of making things "better". there's a factory in mexico just south of yuma, az. it's been featured on americas most wanted a few times. they make a full automatic version of the cobray M10 open bolt design handgun. 32 round magazines are available everywhere but 90 round magazines are available; at a price.
yes mate; it would be much better. i say this all the time: 85% of the population shouldn't own guns. what about the other 15%? do you remember the story a few years back when an american fugitive was pulled over; then shot 3 bobbies; (dead i believe); and the station had to be called for someone; autherized to carry a gun; to come to the sceen? i don't think it was in london. but it was the UK for sure.
you can tell me the UK doesn't have handguns; but this bloke walked into the country and got one. seek and yee shall find. usually; anyone that sells drugs can get you a handgun.
I never said that the UK doesn't have handguns but do you know what? The last school shooting that I can think of was in 1996 at Dunblane. The law was changed, handguns banned and there has been nothing like it since. Sounds like a result doesn't it? Of course criminals can get hold of guns but it is a hell of a lot harder and most people will be less likely to do so because of that difficulty. It's not like in America where a suicidal person will have a gun at hand if they so choose to use it. Did you know that in the UK, farmers have a higher suicide rate than other professions? It is not because, as some people might think, their jobs are stressful, difficult and often leave them in financial difficulties but because they have shotguns in their homes. The easier access you have to a gun, the more likely you are going to use it.

your sig... if guns kill people then pencils cause misspelling... so what killed all those people in the mall?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
Heh, there could be a moral here about americans being much more prone to use guns and with deadly force. Why didnt the schmuck just drive off after threatening them if they hadnt guns?
Noone is denying that there are guns everywhere. But you americans seem to have a special relationship to them and particularly the use of them. You cant deny that either.
Peace
Dan
spot on mate. i'd never deny it and i'd never give up my guns no matter how many laws they pass. this country exists because of guns. we won freedom from the crown with guns. we traveled westward and blazed a country because of guns. and we fought for our freedom on our own soil; and it was the armed citizen that won those wars. the crown came twice to take our freedom. the spanish came too. as did the mexicans. (remember the alamo!). in every war fought on american soil; it was the armed citizen that won that war.
i'm a person.. if i shout BANG at 9 people in a mall 8 of them will get a fright and 1 will punch me in the face... so WHAT killed those people in the mall?

that was 200+ years ago... get in to the present tense for fucks sake... do you still have 9 black slaves and take potshots at the natives or redskins...
your kind make me sick... and you will keep killing each other... this is due to you (your nation as a whole) thinking its still 1775 and having the brain of a retarded worm...

Or rather, you went to someone else's country and fought for your freedom to shoot your way towards owning it? I don't buy this whole "we have earned our right to be proud of our nation and defend it with guns. Unless you are a native (and if you are, apologies for my assumption) you are an immigrant. America has built a culture on this premise of duty and honour towards a nation that has barely existed for 230 years. Where did this right come from?

i hear you mate; but you have more than 50 times more bombings. (including the foiled ones where explosives were confiscated.) and a suicidal bloke has easy access to rope too. and if he wants to take a few with him; he's got a car to drive into crowds. or crash into a bus. there's always a way man.
we'll have to agree to disagree. my guns mean saftey and freedom to me. and those are the only 2 things i won't give up.

Aye, but if you mean the Irish troubles bombings (because the majority in the last 40 years have been) then that was with a political and religious agenda, not a criminal one. It's not the same thing. I guess agreeing to disagree is the only way. I will admit that I don't know what it's like to live in America but I do live in South London in a predominantly poor black area where there were gang-shootings which killed an innocent girl walking home in the crossfire just a matter of weeks ago, the kind of place most gun-toting americans feel justifies their ownership and I get by fine without one, would probably be more likely to get shot if I carried one and would feel uneasy about the idea of more people around me carrying them anyway.

sixth... guns are fucking stupid and as long as thick cunts are shooting each other over in your side of the world then i have zero sympathy for anyone... and i mean anyone... if they live in a country with ridiculously high gun crime statistics, so high that more kids are killed than the next 25 richest nations in the world COMBINED....and do fuck all about it then i will not shed one tear.
keep killing each other... no-one actually fucking cares... except Bin Laden and his flock... saves them the bother
I agree. As long as black people in the hood wanna keep shooting each other, fuck 'em. Saves the cops the work and saves jailspace and the money to jail them/rehab them/hospitalize the victimes. As long as they live there and don't do shit about it, I don't give a damn, either.
Note: My post is a sarcastic response to the above, in case it isn't obvious.

When the fuck did I say that?
I said that the AGENDA was political and religious. Even if an IRA member blows up 23 people in a crowded pub in a protestant neighbourhood, he thinks he is doing it for a just cause, criminal or not. Do you think Mr Mallshooter thought his cause was just, or was he just trying to get famous?

Interesting also that this thread took only a few replies to degenerate into a gun debate, as opposed to the tragedy that happened, killing people buying Christmas presents at the mall.

my point still stands.. americans live in a country where killing each other with guns is a tragic thing.. yet does absolutely fuck all to try and turn that around, not only that... people like onelongsong actually see that 9 people died in the mall and instead of heartfelt sympathy or providing a post which might try and get to the root problem of the US' undeniable gun fixation, he posts turgid crap about being able to rescue everyone there and that no law or government will take his gun from him... so as a result of having a good percentage of the US who think just like him... so i have no sympathy for anyone in that country... good riddance i say.

i protect meself from dangerous animals. it's only a tool for me. a carpenter becomes very handy with his hammer; a rancher becomes handy with his gun. where i live; there isn't human life for several Km. tis why i ponder why my owning a gun bothers anyone.
maybe you can come visit in the future. you can walk in me shoes a bit and we'll talk about it over drinks.

i'll have to look back but i believe it was you and your soapbox that turned this into a gun debate. and i did post my condolences.
but i think only a nutter would carry on about how an inanimate object could cause so much devastation. it's the bloody people committing the crimes. not a bloody 5 pound piece of steel. if you're going to address the problem; address the people committing the crimes.

The majority of bombings in london that were not related to islamic extremism in recent years were IRA related.
And I understand that guns can be used as tools. I don't believe all guns should be banned. I personally don't see the point in the legality of handguns or automatic arms for anyone who is not a police officer but I recognise the use of shotguns and rifles for people such as yourself. I do wonder though, if there was a person around your neck of the woods and they came to steal from you, steal your material possessions, unarmed perhaps, would you exercise your right to steal their life?

handguns are a necessity because you can't strap a rifle to your waist; fix fence or do other work; while still having quick access to it when you need it.
there was a saying about 30 years ago:
it's better to have a gun and never need it; than to need a gun and not have it.
if i buy an assault rifle with a 90 round drum; i hope like bloody hell that i don't have to use it. EVER. but guns appreciate in value so they're a good investment. guns i bought in 1991 for $200 to $300 i sold for $800 to $1,000 in 1998 and 1999. most of the guns i own are new in box. never been fired.
it's been nice but i've got to get some sleep. hope to talk to you again soon. and the invitation stands. i'll put you up mate. i'm busy moving and building an amusement type center for the next 10 months so any time after that.
The problem here is that it is way to easy to purchase a gun. As long as you don't have a criminal background and are old enough, in some states you can just walk into a Walmart and in 15-20 minutes walk out owning a weapon. I believe that a responsible adult should have the right to own a firearm, but the problem is that some states will allow just anyone to own them. That has to change. Here in New Jersey there are tons of illegal weapons on the streets and 90% of the illegal firearms that are confiscated where purchased from states with lax firearms laws and illegal transported and sold within this state.

and please do us the honour of staying in your own country. we don't want you here and we've got the guns to back it. don't risk your life coming here. you've got a good chance of going home in a box. especially if your in the wrong place and stick out as a foriegner.
if only law enforcement should have guns; where the bloody hell was law enforcement while this bloke shot 9 people? criminals will always use guns against us. it's bloody insane to think that disarming innocent people will improve the problem.

dunkman and anyone else - don't believe this for one second. I work in offices with all races, nationalities, & religions and no one has "gone home in a box" because of it.

handguns are a necessity because you can't strap a rifle to your waist; fix fence or do other work; while still having quick access to it when you need it.
there was a saying about 30 years ago:
it's better to have a gun and never need it; than to need a gun and not have it.
if i buy an assault rifle with a 90 round drum; i hope like bloody hell that i don't have to use it. EVER. but guns appreciate in value so they're a good investment. guns i bought in 1991 for $200 to $300 i sold for $800 to $1,000 in 1998 and 1999. most of the guns i own are new in box. never been fired.
it's been nice but i've got to get some sleep. hope to talk to you again soon. and the invitation stands. i'll put you up mate. i'm busy moving and building an amusement type center for the next 10 months so any time after that.
and please do us the honour of staying in your own country. we don't want you here and we've got the guns to back it. don't risk your life coming here. you've got a good chance of going home in a box. especially if your in the wrong place and stick out as a foriegner.
if only law enforcement should have guns; where the bloody hell was law enforcement while this bloke shot 9 people? criminals will always use guns against us. it's bloody insane to think that disarming innocent people will improve the problem.
he wasnt a criminal until he fired the weapon... he was an innocent person with a firearm up to that point...
Dude, seriously, wtf is that all about?
dunkman and anyone else - don't believe this for one second. I work in offices with all races, nationalities, & religions and no one has "gone home in a box" because of it.
you dont have a choice unfortunately... i'll do what i fucking wish... and no amount of stupid american going home in a box jibes will stop me... i'll be bringing my kids as well... and if you suggest they are coming home in a box then i'll personally look you up
