I shop there rather frequently actually. It's unfortunate these situations are coming to a school/public places near us all until the end of time.

this is why i dont trust people who live at home with their parents.

bets on how long it takes ols to tell us this would never have happened if there were concealed carry laws and someone coulda just shot him?

It's an awful thing. Horrible for you, to have happened somewhere that you go to often, and just terrible for the community.

My heart goes out to all of you. I find this kind of thing so difficult to comprehend.

So all people that live at home with their parents are not to be trusted???

Won't be hearing about it from OLS here, in this thread, or today for that matter. And I'm sure he'll be equally distressed at the loss of life.

    it was a joke.

10 to 1 he uses it as a platform for preaching about the second amendment and gun rights.

Not really the appropriate place for a joke, so I guess I missed it. Sorry. :o

It wouldn't be happening so frequently if this whole ideology wasn't getting so much hype and media attention.

He basically wrote something along the lines "I have been a piece of shit all my life and now I'll be famous". Which means if the previous killers weren't made famous by the media this guy wouldn't of had reason to do what he did.

That's a part of it that gets underplayed. The problem in the US is that first of all, there are guns all over the place. It doesnt help. Secondly, it has become an established "way to go" to shoot a lot of people including yourself in order to get attention, and revenge at those that have slighted you. Plenty of examples show how it's done, and all the attention it generates. Thirdly, the media goes berserk every fucking time giving them exactly what they wanted, and showing yet other disgruntled teens how it's done.

This interplay of factors I think is what gives the backdrop of why this happens mostly in the US. It seems that kids that would just suicide elsewhere, is hellbent on taking some company with them in the US.

With the internet and all, I think this will spread, unfortunately.

that's the way it used to work in phoenix. i don't know about now. if i had been there i would've shot the guy. i'm sure joe horn would've too. there's still a lot of us that will protect others instead of hiding under a table.

then you might have missed him and shot a kid in the face... then you'd be charged with murder along with the retard.

no doubt you'll tell me you're an excellent shot and wouldnt have missed..

heres an idea... if no-one had a gun in the first place and a guy wanted to go mental in a mall then he'd have a hard time killing 9 people with a stiletto... and even then some blonde american bimbo wifeslut would've killed him for wasting a good Jimmy Choo on someone's brain...

criminals in every country have guns. don't kid yourself. when something becomes illegal; it creates a black market. if the country has illegal drugs; IT HAS GUNS. guns and drug running go together.
the problem with the us is that it won't report when someone uses their gun to save themselves or another. well; except in arizona. we push the point. someone uses a gun in self defence every 34 minutes; somewhere in the us. if the media reported those; it wouldn't glorify the criminal.
yesterday some bloke killed a home invader in phoenix (or suburb) and saved his family. he's now famous. but for the right reasons.

first; why would a kid be standing next to a shooter?
second; i'm always aware of my background and where the bullet will go if i miss.
third; i practice by shooting matchsticks. i shoot rattlesnakes in the head. i've hunted for 37 years and NEVER had to take more than one shot at anything. and i don't have any stories about the one that got away.
forth; most legal gun owners practice and know proper handling procedures.

fifth; in order to take away ALL guns; you'd have to remove the technology from every mind. after my surgery i took a gunsmithing class and held my license for 6 years. i made several working guns from scratch. i also made my own gunpowder. again from scratch. there's 3 easy to obtain ingredients. unless you remove the technology from every mind; you can't get rid of guns.

i think i should be honoured that i'm loved so much; that i'm mentioned so often; even on days i can't be here. i know you love; but SS can't seem to get enough of me. he isn't a jessie is he?

you're right dear; i do feel for the victims and their families. especially so close to the holidays. they'll relive this every christmas for the rest of their lives. but i truely believe i could've saved most; if not all of their lives if i had been there.

A DJ on the radio this morning described the shooter as McLovin from "SuperBad". Has anyone seen a picture of the freak?

My point is that for some reason, you have a lot more guns lying around than any other comparable country. But that wasn't my main point, I said that it doesn't help that everyone and his grandma have them lying around. You have more guns, and you use guns more. Whether legal or not is largely beside the point.

That wasn't my main point however, which is geared more towards the attention these things gets, and the ideas it gives still others.

Other countries have drug dealing too, Norway no exception. But for some reason they dont shoot eachother all the time. We can own guns, but few do (apart form hunters and sports shooters). And "handguns for self-protection" is unheard of. Why America is more violent, that is food for thought and numerous research projects. I dont know exactly. The fact remains though.

sixth... guns are fucking stupid and as long as thick cunts are shooting each other over in your side of the world then i have zero sympathy for anyone... and i mean anyone... if they live in a country with ridiculously high gun crime statistics, so high that more kids are killed than the next 25 richest nations in the world COMBINED....and do fuck all about it then i will not shed one tear.

This is so much more twisted and mindless than the average shooting. When it's one of these "weirdo" kids who have been picked on their whole life shooting up their school you can understand, even if you can't justify or forgive it. This is just sick. He was killing himself anyway so he thought he'd make a name for himself? Tell me Onelongsong, however likely it is that you might have been able to bring the guy down if you'd been there, would it not be easier if the bastard was never tooled up anyway?

No offence americans but your country is fucked up and sinking.

Yawn, just a typical news story from the typical place where it all seems to happen. The more you put the story and name in the press the more you will have fuckheads doing this. Oh yeah and the ease you can get ahold of guns.
You've changed your place in this world!

As well as that may have a thread of truth in it, considering our nation's capital, Americas problems are hardly a problem of the availability of guns.
You have to look at the bigger picture.

yes mate; it would be much better. i say this all the time: 85% of the population shouldn't own guns. what about the other 15%? do you remember the story a few years back when an american fugitive was pulled over; then shot 3 bobbies; (dead i believe); and the station had to be called for someone; autherized to carry a gun; to come to the sceen? i don't think it was in london. but it was the UK for sure.
you can tell me the UK doesn't have handguns; but this bloke walked into the country and got one. seek and yee shall find. usually; anyone that sells drugs can get you a handgun.

The thing of it is, even if you could take the gun out of the hands of Joe America, then you have a racket like the Prohibition days. And that's all it would be, a racket. No less violent deaths, no less guns, and probably more crime.
Ours is a problem of social and economic structure.

I didn't really post the initial post on this thread so that everyone could bicker back and forth about America and guns and the validity of whatever amendment it is. I would have thought that at the VERY LEAST the people that lost their lives today deserve a little quiet reflection that they could have lost their lives in such a heinous fashion. I don't give a monkeys arse about why. Is it not enough that these people woke up this morning and went to do their Christmas shopping and now they'll not be enjoying Christmas with their families ever again? Do they not deserve for us to pause a moment and reflect at that very sad fact?

then why are you so emotional about it. if scots can't handle the responsability of gun ownership; i'm glad your country stripped you of the right and changed you from a citizen to a subject.

Heh, there could be a moral here about americans being much more prone to use guns and with deadly force. Why didnt the schmuck just drive off after threatening them if they hadnt guns?

Noone is denying that there are guns everywhere. But you americans seem to have a special relationship to them and particularly the use of them. You cant deny that either.
