I absolutely loved reading about this and thought that maybe some of you here would appreciate it also. This is also referenced in the What the Bleep movies which I also highly recommend.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but several people have tried to reproduce Emoto's results and couldn't. Emoto claims they are doing it wrong but will not demonstrate the right way. His sample size was approx. 18,000 photographs from which he only selected a few for his claims. The James Randi foundation offered Dr. Emoto a million dollars to reproduce the results in their lab and he neglected to respond. Finally, Dr. Emoto is not a scientist.

I encourage you to investigate these kinds of claims. ;)
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Actually yes, I was aware but I still think it worth sharing as someone who believes in the power of good vibes and the wonders that can come from them. I don't think a skeptic is ever going to reproduce the findings because they don't truly send feeling of love and appreciation, imo. They send feelings of doubt and skeptism which overide the intended ones. Doubt plays a big role, imo. I know you don't believe in it and I'm not here to butt heads in endless circles with you about it. I posted it to share for whoever and take with it whatever they choose to. Feel free to post your problems with it but don't expect me to go pages arguing with you about this. That does nothing but ruin the feeling it gives me whenever I think of this experiment.

Bullcrap. It's junk science. I'm going to defend the credibility of the scientific community by nipping this in the bud. Here at least. Unfortunately Emoto has already written 6 books and sold 2 million copies. Got his crap plastered all over that movie WTBDWK and convinced people with preconceived ideas about reality to buy his shit. He's a scam artist Abook. Or maybe he really believes it, but you can do this same thing with dirt or feces and get results you are looking for. But you can't do it in a controlled environment. I mean, it sounds like you are saying that you will just believe whatever suits your map of the world and ignore everything else, even if it's so fucking obvious as this. I didn't want to be aggressive about this, I'm sorry, but come on, wake up.

Fuck off. It's not hurting a damn thing that I believe in good vibes.

Perhaps not, but you are blindly believing crap like this.

Then you will say "science flip flops" when in reality it doesn't, it's shit like this that people believe and at some point found out it's false. Instead of scrutinizing it to begin with. Emoto gives science a really bad name. Not to mention the rippling effect your beliefs will have in reality.

You give science a bad name. Your attitude does abolutely nothing but push people here farther and farther away from your stances and yet you still sit here and pretend positive vibes have no importance in our interactions and effects on one another. Whatever.

You aren't emitting any vibrations, certainly none that traverse the internet.

The conflict here is maps of the world. You are a newager that believes in all kinds of feel-good shit and denies scientific facts and I am the opposite.

Oh by the way, some high-school kids excitingly tried to do this in their science class. They were dissappointed to find out it was bullshit. But at least they acknowledged reality in the end. No citation sorry. You can always buy an electron microscope and find out first-hand.

denies the scientific fact that we have available to us today

You believe in studies that have been laid out in front of you. Fine.

I trust my feelings from within and don't ignore them anymore and I also believe in a lot of science. I just happen to think we aren't even close to really understanding life and the world around us in scientific terms. Since we are still in the dark about so much, many of us choose to rely on our intuitive nature and instincts until we can better explain so much of the phenomena we experience. Also Fine.

Why, all I need to prove what I'm saying is to watch how people daily react to your callous atttiude and disrespect of their perspective. You're really getting everyone to come around.

In his classic book, The Sane Society, published in 1955, psychologist Erich Fromm proposed that, not just individuals, but entire societies "may be lacking in sanity". Fromm argued that one of the most deceptive features of social life involves consensual validation[1]:

It is naively assumed that the fact that the majority of people share certain ideas or feelings proves the validity of these ideas and feelings. Nothing is further from the truth... Just as there is a 'Folie à deux' there is a 'folie à millions.' The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane. (in: Fromm, The Sane Society, Routledge, 1955, pp.14-15)

I think it's pretty much a widely accepted notion that talking to plants makes them grow stronger. This is in spite of the fact that plants don't know what the hell we're saying and the fact that plants can't even talk.

Has anyone really been able to prove why that is? I don't think so. So, until someone figures it out, one explanation is as good as another.

It oxygenates the plant. And actually it takes quite a lot of talking to them to get any results.

Edit: Or maybe that was CO2 and not oxygen. I don't remember. I looked it up once. It has something to do with that. It's got nothing to do with 'vibes' or language.

hey abook, i happen to like your invisibile vibes. :):D

and that doesn't require being bored senseless in a lab to look at under a microscope.... because surely Ahnimus can see his misery using a microscope

Interestingly, this can also bear against science in the sense that even if scientists agree on something, doesn't make it true in itself. Even if they convince eachother of it's truth. Very double-edged that one for your purposes here.

Its CO2. Your expired breath is much richer in CO2 than normal air. Its realtively low in oxygen (about 16% as opposed to about 20% in air). CO2 makes plants grow faster, because they need it for photosynthesis. I'm pretty sure the talking to plants thing has been experimentally vaildated and CO2 was determined to be the cause. Google it and I'm sure you'll find something.

I've heard of Etmo's 'work' before. It is complete crap of course, but harmless crap, except in the sense that people waste their money on these sorts of things.

Thanks Scott. I saw you logged-in and figured you'd have the answer. After I posted, I thought, wait! We exhale CO2 and plants convert CO2 back to the air we breath. Thanks.

That's all internal chemistry. It may be triggered by sensory input such as, observed behavior, auditory, visual and olfactory simtuli. But not 'vibes'.

but isnt that what the vibe is? a collective of stimuli that as one give off a sense of some unspoken connection or repulsion as the case may be.

    You specifically said energy.

Vibe is short form of Vibration, is it not?

yes it is short for vibration. it also has the connotation of a feeling or a sense.

And that usage connotes a spiritual element. Thus why I don't use it.
