BAGHDAD, Iraq—The victory rallies are set and the tributes are ready. In an Iraqi yes-or-no vote on re-electing Saddam Hussein, the only cliffhanger in Tuesday's vote is whether the two-decade Iraqi leader will beat his last showing: 99.96 percent.

In Iraq, where many believe war with the United States is coming, that 1995 result for Saddam is now seen as somewhat tepid.

"This time, 100 percent!" worker Mayad Aiwan cried Sunday. "Because the Iraqi people love our leader!"

ROFLMFAO! I gotta give you props for that one.

    ~However~

By saying Hugo Chavez is a brutal dictator, you are marginalizing the label. He is by no means brutal (he isn't going around murdering his opposition), and he is a democratically elected president, and therefore it is impossible for him to be a dictator. The people are free in Venezuela. However, the few things he has done to attract so much attention are indeed horrible.

Again I say, the people of Venezuela must stand up against these tactics. Nonetheless, these tactics do not indicate he is a dictator by any means.

    ...

Oh, god... where have all of the rational people gone on this thread? Where is Kenny Olav when you need him? Gue Barium, where have they all gone? Seems like a bunch of white hats around here...

    I feel popular :D!!

Lien, thanks for your kind words, you're very smart too :). I liked your post and agree with it for the most part.

OK, sorry I couldn't post in the thread, but I was away for the whole week on official duty in Ecuador. Ironically, who arrived to the hotel I was staying at on Wednesday night? Yeap, the man himself!

I promise if there's anything that I feel I could contribute to this thread I'll post on Monday.

brokendave, I'm not sure how much we agree on things. For example, I totally oppose central planned economies and I'm not opposed, by principle, to privatizations.

    Everybody have a nice weekend!

    We agree that:

    1. Venezuelans should be opposing Chavez's new rulings as it sets a precident.

    2. Chavez should not compromise the people's freedom to reach his goals.

There's no such thing in business as 'no hierarchy'. I don't know where brokendave is coming from there.

I am speaking of a society where the workers manage the work place themselves. I don't think I spoke directly of business in this manner. It is more in the idea that production is accomplished by an organized set of workers to provide a product or service to the public. Whereas, the profit motive could be applied here, I didn't suggest that it was.

I am speaking of something known as anarcho-syndicalism.

  • Chavez?? Getting this much air time?? he does not deserve all of this attention. Now when he releases his sex tape with his Anti-American butt buddy Sean Penn we'll talk. LOL
Many many wonderful shows, since day one.

  • Hugo Chavez, like most devoted Marxists, is a giant fascist douche. And not in the "he makes me feel icky" way the left describes George W. but in very real supression of his political opponents and his forceful control of private industry.
