turkey are our friends. they are too strategically positioned to annoy or even alienate. we ignored the armenian massacre, so why not the kurdish massacre as well.

Being fucked up hypocrites is the name of the game here.

Why are you so emotionally invested in Saddam? I don't get it. While I generally disagree with your opinions, at least you present them well. With this, you're acting like your uncle was murdered. I personally don't care either way. In jail or hanged - both work for me. Nothing to celebrate, but certainly nothing to mourn.

This is hardly a fair comparison. You have some serious issues with the Nixon regime, for some reasons way beyond my comprehension. You seem to think suffering should beget suffering.
Nixon resigned under the pressure of the spying on Democrats involved in Watergate. He wasn't on trial for Vietnam, or the actions he took on that front. He inherited a war on his election in '68 and believed it was a war that could be won. Again, though, his pardon was based on the Watergate affair.
I never said their crimes were comparable. Clearly, they weren't ... at least, not anything Nixon would have been tried for here. All I was saying was that I find it interesting that this country supposedly could not withstand the stress of seeing it's president on trial, while the nation of Iraq has had no trouble at all trying, convicting and executing their former leader, and I don't hear anyone talking about how this is a threat to their fledgling democracy.

  • How can we say Saddam is wrong for killing? It is wrong to kill him as punishment for killing.

    Any capital punishment is wrong.

And SOAD is still fighting for US recognition of the Armenian genocide. Shit, even Turkey recognizes it, but the grand ole U.S.A won't.

I see it kind of like the movie Hero. How the emperor unified all of China. The movie was able to sympathize with the emperor's ideals. Yet, we see the same thing in Iraq and it's a brutal dictatorship.

Although, with all fairness, Iraq was unified by the British, but once they realized it wasn't working, they fucked off.

The country would have loved seeing Nixon on trial, there was the problem. Ford came on the scene and acknowledged (in a subtle way he was acknowledging Nixon's emotional instability when he stated), the American nightmare had ended. There was nothing to serve America in going after Nixon in a court of law at that point. Not for Watergate.

If you want to state a case against Nixon's delusion in regard to Vietnam, that's another topic.

Thank you, gue. I thought it was kinda obvious but now I guess I'll be labeled as a Saddam lover in mourning.

The trial was a joke, how many times did it get out of control? Who ran that courthouse? Saddam made a mockery out of the justice system they tried to put in place. How many lawyers died? Biased judges being replaced by more biased judges. He knew his fate, he didn't give a shit, he wanted to put on a show and everyone bit for it...Hell made for good TV in America where behaviour and antics such as we saw in this case would not be tolerated. Our system isn't perfect, but it sure as hell would not get to the point it did out there.

I am in no way defending Saddam for what he did, but he deserved a fair trial like any other person and he didn't get it. He should have been tried at the Hague.

    one man's opinion.

Human Rights Watch blasted Saddam constantly, but even they recognized that the trial was a joke.

You people are so creepy! You'll hate anyone the idiot box tells you you should. Burn in hell and all that crap is disgusting. There is no hell, morons. You're telling me you hate Saddam for doing the same shit you're on here cheering about?? Take a long, hard look in the mirror.
I am right here with you. I'm actually basically speechless, not to mention sick to my stomach. But I completely support what you are saying.

The problem is that people don't realize that other people think their killing is just as justified as the next group. No one is killing just because, they have somehow rationalized their actions as what needs to be done. The only way to stop this sick shit is to not excuse murder from anyone at anytime....stop accepting murder, bombings, wars, genocide as acceptable answers in our world.

I completely agree. I'm listening to a very pretty song on my myspace comments right now. :) While I'm feeling sickened by humanity. This whole bogeyman-pointing-the-finger thing makes me sick. "we'll kill soandso because they are bad and we are good". I love you, Abook. And your cool boyfriend, too. :)
