standing at the balcony doors when davey emerged from the kitchen, which in reality was just an alcove hidden behind a wooden screen, i watched as he paused in front of the painting i had done of him. actually it was one of several, but this one was the latest. it was the one i was working on when i ended up in hospital the other week. i saw a slight smile before he turned to face me.
