johnny couldn't help but notice the wry little smile on his lover's face.

'you're enjoying this aren't you? you think it's some kind of fun to have this guy after you. have you spoken to robby about richard? i suggest you do cause i'm not getting caught up in of richard's bullshit. or your bullshit for that matter.'

johnny got up from the bed grabbing his pillow and left the room.

When Johnny woke up on the couch he saw Jeffrey in the chair across the room, he wasn't awake. Johnny smiled at the thought that he must have stuck a chord. He knew it was a bittersweet victory, but if he could achieve Jeff losing sleep over his point of view there might be hope for him yet.
Still silently grinning he walked into the kitchen to make himself some coffee before hitting the shower.

coming out of the bathroom wrapped in only a towel, jeff was waiting for him. johnny looked at him but didn't stop.


'johnny wait. you're right. richard does amuse me. and it's flattering to have him fawn all over me. but i'm not gonna let it come between us.'

chastened, jeffrey watched as johnny disappeared into their bedroom. he thought that perhaps he's underestimated johnny. and he didn't think that any relationship he got into would be for the long term. but that's exactly what this thing with johnny was turning into. and it didn't freak him out as much as he thought it would. he had to keep in mind that monogamy meant he had to be true to johnny. and only johnny.

johnny walked into the kitchen doing his jeans up. his shirt hung open.

'you are such a pouter. you know that?'

johnny kissed jeff's cheek and picked up his mug off the bench.

Well what are you going to do about him being between the two of us?

'he's not coming between us johnny. richard is nothing to me. i love you. i want to be with you and only you. you must know that.'

as jeff stepped forward and rested his hand on johnny chest, johnny moved back.

I know you love me Jeff, I can feel it. However that doesn't change that fact that he already is between us. The way you dismiss this every time annoys me. He and his presence annoys me and your flirtlike behaviour annoys me.

jeff was getting annoyed with johnny's seemingly puritanical attitude.

'fuck john. you knew i was a flirt when you got involved with me. don't attack me because you're insecure.'

Who's being insecure now? I didn't attack you. I was expressing what I feel. You think he isn't between us, well he is. Don't go looking for excuses for your behaviour, just own up to it. Yes your behaviour makes me feel insecure, if you would step back for a minute and look at it from my point of view, you might find that it isn't such a weird thing to feel.

johnny noticed that was the second time jeff had shortened his name to the more formal.

'are you testing me? is this what all this is about?'

No I don't think so. I am a loose person John, you know I am. I can't change this because it is who I am in more than just this way. I mean nothing by it, I often am not aware of it. It just happens. The most important thing is that my heart belongs to you.

johnny was tired of the round and round of this conversation. he sighed.

'look jeff, i have to tell you how i feel. i don't like the way you act around richard and i don't like the way you let him touch you.'

again jeff tried to lay his hand on johnny. johnny stepped back.

'don't touch me jeff.'

as jeff again tried to touch johnny, johnny moved away.

'what are you, deaf? i said don't touch me.'

still jeff wouldn't let it go. as he reached out to johnny, johnny swung around and slapped him. johnny realised what he had done and that it was wrong, but he couldn't take it back.

'god damn it jeff.'

he left jeff in the kitchen. a couple of minutes later when he'd finished getting dressed, johnny left the apartment without a word to jeff.

Jeffrey ran to the door when he heard it ring. He was expecting Johnny even though he wouldn't be back for another two hours. Jeffrey opened up the door only to find Richard standing there on his rollerblades.

Hey Jeff, feel like going for a ride?

then he noticed the less than welcoming disappointed look on jeff's face.

'what? not happy to see me.'

when jeff walked back into the apartment to get his keys, he turned to find richard too close for comfort. he snapped.

'back off richard. what is it you want from me anyway. you're always trying something and i don't appreciate it.'

suitably chastened but not really put off, richard smiled.

richard looked at him.

'you sure your wife will let you?'

richard didn't move. jeff looked at him.

'what are you deaf? i can't have you here with me alone richard. let's get a coffee.'
