my advice (only because I did a lot of leg work trying to find a place in TO in the past) - scope out the bars and talk to the managers an make sure they can handle it and the raffles etc etc

toronto is a tough sell - loose moose definitely works

you don't want another hamilton on your hands (haha - no booze, no wait staff, no PA or AV system, SHITHOLE OF A BAR)

I canvassed quite a few bars who were happy for the patronage but not really willing to do the set up

loose moose is only a 10-15 minute nice walk to massey hall, right near union station for GO and TTC patrons too

i was there at the loose moose back in '05. i liked it alot. i'm just seeing what other ideas are out there.

they were playing the pearl jam, many preparties i've been to didn't have that option, so that's another advantage.

i'm just trying to think about the supplies from wishlist foundation. to carry to & from the hotel & pub. i will be checking into everything in the next few day's. i promise! :)

I have a feeling that the venue will change...loose moose is too far!

it's a 10 - 15 minute walk. anybody here know what local pub/bar close to the massey hall there is? i don't know the area, so any help would be sweet! :)

please post links, info .. etc.. here. will check into making reservations. closer to massey hall, the better. i don't want you all to walk far, get tired & miss out. want you all to have a great time at the preparty, and a great time at the show. :)

based on the reaction from my earlier post, which included the 9 closest "bars" according to google maps, i think it may be worth it to sacrifice "distance" in lieu of "quality", saying that i'd gladly spend a few bucks and split a cab from the loose moose to the venue, rather than pre-party at a shitty spot next door

i know some have said elephant and castle, but the pictures from google images came up like crap and i'd feel much more comfortable if someone who hasn't been there before would be willing to scout it out (unbiased opinion)

just pulled up "pubs" near massey hall, got Duke of Richmond Pub (thedukepubs.ca) and st louis bar & grill (stlouiswings.com) and irish embassy pub (http://www.irishembassypub.com/)

of these, the irish embassy pub looks like it could cater to us, 0.8 km away

so, thus far, i'm in for hard rock, loose moose, or irish embassy pub

call me crazy, but i'm posting 2 more

    scotland yard pub http://www.scotlandyard.ca/

    pj o'brien's http://www.pjobrien.com/pjob/home.html

so, i've now got 5 choices, the 2 above, hard rock, loose moose, and irish embassy

so far, many agree. we'll do it at the Loose Moose! :)

as for the walking distance to Massey Hall, i'm gonna try and search for shuttle service. say 2 buses from Loose Moose to Massey Hall. i'll email the manager this weekend and get stuff rolling! :)

That might be hard to do. Its not THAT far of a walk to Massey Hall from the Loose Moose. But hey, if you can do the shuttle bus thing then go for it.

I work at the Delta Chelsea Hotel and can walk to any of the places mentioned to check them out. I still don't get the Loose Moose thing - it is too far and it isn't much to talk about. It was fine in '05/06 when the show was at the ACC. Just my opinion.

Irish Embassy is OK, Elephant and Castle would definatley work. I haven't been to the Hard Rock in a while.

Let me know if I can help.

go check out the Elephant & Castle and dispute the negative comments about that place that have been posted.

I swear the one in London is really nice and has lots of different beers on tap

I have to throw in again - it's not just a matter of liking the bar

you have to wheel and deal with management - it's weekday afternoons and evenings - they have to change staffing requirements - they often don't like you selling product, charity or not, as they want to respect the other patrons in the bar and they are not willing to give you the PA system or allow you to play music as, once again, they don't want to affect their other, possibly more regular, patrons

just speaking from experience - Toronto was the toughest place to get a set up

the loose moose has actually sort of set themselves up for these parties now

as for the distance - you'll probably walk that far for parking anyway

It's definitely close enough, and plus everyone knows the Hard Rock so they'll know what to expect. :) I also have to point out that as a 19-year-old who was shafted from the preparty in Hartford, this would also allow anyone under 19 in as well, which I'm sure will make a few people very happy.

I sent a message to my friends that have dealt with them before. I am not an organizer for this so I don't want to piss anyone off. Once I have a reply I'm not doing anything until I hear from the organizers themselves. If they don't want my help or would rather go with what they know (Loose Moose) then I'll respect their wishes. :)

Do it at The Loose Moose. They are set up for this type of thing. And its only a 10-15 miute walk to Massey hall. Boy, after reading some of the "its too far of a walk" posts on this board, a lot of PJ fans must be over 80 years old and elderly. WALK to the show!!!!! Get some exercise, and see the sights on a beautiful summers eve in Toronto.
This sidewalk is for regular walking, not for fancy walking!
