The outro to "Long Gone" sounds amazing, think it's a new song? I think this album was seen as a concept album, so they could be doing the whole "let's make all of the songs run into each other."

I really hope you are joking.

what's the concept? how to create a steaming pile of shit?
  • My my, I really thought timbaland would have some great beats for this album. I didn't hear it on those three tracks. On first listen, they didn't sound as good as Justin Timberlake's or Nelly Furtado's album with Timbaland - not even close. I actually like that kind of music. Those albums had a good vibe to them and really different, cool sounding beats. Again, I didn't hear that here; this just sounded like adult contemporary. I don't even see kids liking this. Hopefully the record has much, much better tracks on it. Looking very likely that this will suck. Hopefully, this is a one time experiment. We'll always have SG, Temple, AS and Euphoria Morning. I have to listen to some Soundgarden now.

Don't think so, Timbaland compared it to Pink Floyds The Wall if I recall.

I'm a Mike Patton fan, trust me I can deal with change, I just have a problem with the quality of music going down to achieve a more mainstream sound. If Cornell could make a good record that sounds like this, I wouldn't have a problem, but these songs are cheesy and terrible.

Yeah, Off the cuff they are not impressive at all. Until I hear the final result I will not take sides on the subject. I was a bit shocked to hear that Timbaland and Chris were going to work together though some months back. But with what Timbaland did with the One Republic album I figured maybe he would go the course but so far it looks liek another damn Justin Timberlake album. All in all though, It might be good. I have a very versatile taste though.

I don't mind Long Gone, obviously it would sound better without the bull shit backing track. The other two sound like steaming heaps of molten turd. What is he thinking? How is he going to fit this stuff in with his existing material live?

By the way I definitely read that the songs all seague into each other, so that could be another new song at the end of Long Gone.

I never thought I'd have to worry about getting my ass kicked for liking Chris Cornell.
  • thats it. im out.

the problem with him making this sort of shit is that it wrecks his old stuff for me... now all i can think of when i listen to slaves and bulldozers is 'what would '91 chris think of 2008 chris?'

he'd kick his own ass, thats what he'd do...

I saw Cornell when he toured for this last album and it was a fantastic show. He did tons of acoustic stuff and even the new stuff sounded great. I was super excited about the new album, but when I listened to it I was shocked. The songs were way over produced and sounded nothing like they did when I saw him live. This song sounds the same way imo. I just wish he would make music that sounds like his live show because thats where he really shines.

  • Jeez, even the outro to Long Gone sounds overproduced and poppy. Those other two songs are pretty meh too. I would have loved to hear them without Timbaland's influence though. With a real drum kit and real bass Ground Zero could have been kinda funky.
This is one hell of a desperate attempt to get into the mainstream. It's kinda embarassing.

    Why?

    Why?

    Why?

Seriously. I defended Chris Cornell's Carry On, although I wasn't a huge fan of that album. I thought, "Hey, if he wants to try doing things this way, why not?". Unfortunately, I don't see any way I can defend what I've just heard, nor do I have the desire to.

I hate Timbaland, but do nonetheless think he's a gifted producer. None of that comes through on any of these tracks.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. What a sad turn of events. There's just no excuse for this.

I remember him saying that no one of the remaining members of SG didn't call him up and showed interest in doing a show or a song. Now I can see why. It's better to do nothing that do THIS. And I'm glad Matt is in PJ.

I guess he thinks that he's reached the peak creating rock records and feel no need to prove anything else to the world (in this case it'd be nice if he could prove to himself that he's still able to create music he gets credit for).

OR He's settled down and became in a way like Johnny Depp with his "for kids" movies.

If SG was the other three were to consider reuniting I seriously doubt that they would take him back as a frontman or as the 4th member of the band.

P.S. It'd be great if all of this was a joke, a bone he threw to scare his fans but in the end came up with a record really worth listening to. Dream on.

I was hoping I'd wake up this morning to find out that all the new info and songs were some kind of practical joke. How disappointed I was. I still can't believe this is the same man I have supported for so long, even through Carry On (although it was a weak album by Cornell standards).

Again, sorry for posting those 2 horrendous snippets. But the truth had to get out eventually. Glad to see everyone voicing their true opinion though. Cornell once said that he usually reads posts on forums like Pearl Jam's because that is where he usually gets the most honest feedback. As you've seen many on the official Cornell board would praise him making fart noises over 12 tracks. Thinking about it a little more, I think fart noises would have been more creative than the steaming pile of shit that's been streaming since yesterday.

Chris, we love you dude, but seriously it's time to have your head examined.
  • ^ Yeah, I often read the Cornell forums but I can't bear to sign up there because of the obsessive defence of the man. Half of the members seem to have only heard You Know My Name and a couple of Audioslave songs. Where did you find out that Chris reads the Pearl Jam forum over his own?

I know I read that too but I can't tell you where... CC should enjoy this thread. Actually, the people in his own forum don't seem to like the new stuff much better. I'm sure there is a 12 year old girl somewhere who will.

Yea same here, I can't remember where I read or heard this quote from but I'm sure it is accurate. In fact, I think he made this comment in passing while he was with Audioslave but I'm not sure exactly. He said something like: you get more honest feedback from fans off of band websites that are similar to your own. Most of the time, the feedback on his own site is positive no matter what he does, so it's not an accurate reflection of what the masses feel towards a certain piece of work.......it was something to this affect, I'm sorry I can't find a source or be more specific.

I'm a member of the CC board, I'm not afraid to voice my opinion on his new, horrendous music as I have done several times on the official board. I love the man and I think it's our responsibility to inform him of when we feel his music is slipping. In this case, the music is not just slipping, it's fallen and broken several limbs and bleeding from every orifice. Yes, it's quite ugly.

Several long time fans are saying the same as me, so I'm pretty certain he'll get the idea soon enough that there is a vast disappointment from his long timers.

Yea, those songs kinda suck, and I love CC.
He should do an acoustical album if he wants to experiment. Fuck this new fangled shit.

Did ya see Sweeney Todd? Not a kids movie lol...just because he did the pirates movies doesn't mean he's the next Eddie Murphy and only produce sappy crap.

    Long Gone full version

There's a bit at the end where it sounds like a full band and i think there isn't supposed to be any cuts between songs so maybe it leads into a 'full band' type song?

Anywhoo i quite like this song. Never thought i'd say that.

    Oh. Jesus.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

    Oh. Jesus.

You should be happy. Everyone will forget whatever issue they had with RHCP and focus on CC's shortcomings instead...

You're right...could be worse. Better than some tracks on his last cd for sure.

I really can't think of a single song from Carry On that is worse than anything we've heard from this new album. Maybe that's why he's working with Timbaland; to make Carry On seem amazing.

HA! Funny and true! Right now Carry On sounds like Superunknown....well maybe not that good, but compared to Ground Zero?????? Is the mic on???? Am I a douchebag???
  • It's officially time to reunite Soundgarden.

We can let Matt go for a tour while the rest of the boys write the new album.

But then who would write songs like Unemployable and Evacuation...

FUCK! What the fuck is that shit? That is a sick joke, right? I swear if Eddie Vedder EVER does anything like this, I am disowning him. It is bad enough that the 80's are back in fashion, now this?
