Chris Cornell - Long Gone

  • Yeah, but it's at a whole different level over there... I see people saying that anyone who even suggests the album isn't up to par "hate" Chris Cornell, and criticism of it "stinks of betrayal". With Pearl Jam, it's like, "They're my favourite band, so I'll defend them if someone criticises them." With Cornell, it's like "OH MY GOD EVERY TIME YOU SAY SOMETHING BAD ABOUT HIM, A BABY DIES!"

No PJ fans are pretty much the worst. Maybe just behind Tool or Rage fans.

In its own way PJ has been desperately trying to stay relevent by aligning itself with the 'indie' movement - by touring with KOL and doing the whole indie concert circuit etc.

By the looks of the obsessive KOL fandom on here it is working.

I liked KOL long before there was any association with PJ.

Are KoL even indie? KoL and MMJ are two of the most exciting, straightforward young rock bands around, as far as I can tell, so I can't really picture anyone more suitable for PJ to tour with. If they toured with someone like Interpol or Vampire Weekend, I'd agree, but I'd say this is just an attempt by an "elder statesman" band to introduce their fans to two great rock bands. Do you really think PJ shows with KoL opening were full of Kings fans being introduced to PJ for the first time?

And um.... to keep this on topic: I don't even have a problem with Cornell touring with Linkin Park. They're not the best rock band out there, but they're not the worst. I really enjoyed hearing Chester singing on Hunger Strike. It doesn't seem as forced, contrived and outright lazy as the Timbaland collaboration or the Fashion Rocks thingy that's coming up.

I had a thread over there that asked "Should I boo the new songs at the show Wednesday night in Vegas or just bring my Ipod and listen to an older Soundgarden song while I watch him sing"

People got pretty heated over it and of course it was deleted. I dont post to much over there but pretty much if you dont like the new stuff you are getting beat up pretty bad. If you criticize Timbaland you are deleted right away. The mod fears Timbaland may get a bit Gangsta on him and holds him responsible for the posts.

Listen to the new songs and make up your own mind. 'Watch Out' doesn't sound too bad live.

I have been his biggest defender on this board..

Heaven forbid Chris should actually know what his existing fan base thinks of his new music! I heard the poor guy say that it was an overwhelmingly positive response so far, in one interview! I think his people are lying to him....

no kidding... if people want to hear a dozen more albums just like this piece of shit then by all means continue hiding your true feelings about it... but i sincerely doubt that... from what i hear though the CC message board is sending some mixed signals

    positive response?!? HA

This is the actual "positive response" he's been getting:

CC: "So, what did you think of my new album with Timbaland?"
Person who works for CC: "Er... hmmmm...ahan...uh... well, good for you for trying something new!!"
CC: "Yeah, I know it's great! This a modern Dark Side of the Moon!"
Person who works for CC:"Sure, of course!"
“Life is life everywhere. Life is in ourselves and not outside us. There will be men beside me, and the important thing is to be a man among men and to remain a man always, whatever the misfortunes, not to despair and not to fall - that is the aim of life, that is its purpose.”

He's probably just been asking the wait staff in his restaurant, and some jeans models. :p

LOL! How fucking stupid does he sound comparing it to DSOTM?! Big deal the songs all blend into each other.....

What's pissing me off most is how damn good his voice is sounding live at the moment, I don't think he's sounded this good in a decade, it just seems such a waste.

I've defended Chris's right to do what ever he believes in, but after hearing (half of) this song I just have to say it is so terrible It can hardly be described just how bad it is :(
Far from being inventive and searching for a new direction, I fear he has inadvertantly stuck his head up his own arse to see just how cool he is, and while he was there he listened to himself say how great he is....Honestly, this is the most tragic thing to happen to anything related to the old Seattle music scene since Kurt played chicken with himself and his crack addled brain and a shot gun :(
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Nearly - let's not forget Layne. But even slowly dying from your heroin addiction is, in some crazy way, more dignified than this.

I'm gonna post some 'honest' messages on Chris's myspace page, I bet he'll read them and realise the terrible mistake he's making......

I'm prety sure he doesn't read it....but if enough people started letting their feelings be known there, I wonder if it would eventually filter through to him ? Maybe not ;) but hell, like you said how else can we get our thought over to him ?
