Well Dave Matthews Band just announced 4 dates for Florida in September that i'll be going to and i'm going to see Tool 3 times here too...so I guess all in all it won't be a bad summer for shows!

Wow, all those shows in Florida? I wonder how those bands are going to put food on their plates.

Seriously...with all that money they're going to be losing they'll probably get dropped from their respective labels...

DMB is playing around a dozen shows in the south...and in the major markets. They're going to do just fine. Pearl Jam's attendance level in West Palm is no different than DMB's when they play there so I don't think they'd be losing money there...

Wonder how much money they'll make by loading everything up, paying a crew and playing Lolla??

Does a band, headliner status level like PJ, make more money playing a festival than they do booking a place as the sole headliner??

I honestly have no idea but i'm leaning towards them making less money in a festival situation...

Yes, I was neither amused nor impressed by "One Note." It was not exactly the way to treat folks who had sat out in the cold, and it was fucking cold that night, to listen to you. We can probably use that as one clue #1 of the evidence to be used in the case of the South vs. Pearl Jam.

The last time Tool played the same venue, they played through a fucking monsoon with lightning that reminded me of an "end of the world" movie. I was not there, nor would I have wanted to be. I was actually driving back from a photography field trip to Callaway Gardens that evening. The weather was fit for neither man nor beast.

The reviewer in the local paper did mention that it was kind of apt for the show. The amount of rain one would have received in the audience would have been a major drawback to being at the show.

Have you ever heard the boot from Birmingham 2003? At what turns out to be the very end of the show they (the band) acted as if to play another song....they hit one note and run off the stage. They make light of it at one of the three Boston shows where they play all of the songs from the tour over the three night stand. They call it "One Note." This all occurred after Mike started to play some of "Sweet Home Alabama" during the previous song, and Eddie waved at him saying "no, no.."

I think you are missing the point here.
I dont see anywhere where you can assume that they dont enjoy what they do anymore.
You can tell how much they enjoy making music together by listening to the last album and you can tell how much they enjoy playing live when you see them on the stage for 2 1/2 hours each time.

But its understandable at least I think.
They are men with families, Ed has a little girl, Stone and Mike about to or already have brand new babies, and Matt has a wife and kids too.... I dont know if you have any kids but imagine how hard it would be to be traveling and sometimes be away from your kids or have them with you but have no time to spend with them...

I drove around from show to show to show on 1996 and when I finally got back to Florida I was exhausted (and I wasnt performing every night)...
After the extensive tour they had last year they must be really tired ...
Last year I went to 4 shows and I would have loved to see them here in FL but I guess next tour will be our time :)

I dont know why everyone gets so offended thinking PJ sees PJ as a business, it is a business, people thinking of their business as such doesnt mean they are not passionate about it (this goes for any profession), this is their job and what a damn great job they have!!

    Urs,

and thats why I want them to be fully rested when they do come to the South. Saw them in Bern....and Eddie looked really tired....and justifiably so. I'm same age as the band..and know last few years my energy has changed...sure its the same for them. BUT...I can also say....they sound great...and they're good.....they have it down. SOOOOO I think everyone needs to chill the fk out...keep hoping..and sending positive vibes. And yes...if you have the chance to see them...where ever...do it if at all possible. As far as them having fun when they play.....there's sooo much positive feedback from every crowd...I can't see them not getting a boost for it. Reason...pro sports people don't want to retire...or come out of retirement...is they miss this energy...

Play in the SOuth fellas...we'll make you feel great....

    Peace

Didn't your source say no shows first? I took that as hard and fast. We will have to (obviously) wait until they tour again... but what (I think) we are wanting more (at this point) is a word. Any word.

Maybe JTR is legit and released by the band to get (secret) word to us? At least I'm hoping (in my starry eyed moments)... no real harm is really being done by "sources". The situation has already been created by the band (and management) and none of our info sources are going to change the reality - Just how much we squawk on this thread - our level of pissed-ness.

I'll be here...for however long it takes. The only thing that will stop me is if we hear (from the band) that they are indeed skipping us again.

I suspect that a new album in 2008 is a pipe dream.....much less a full blown tour in 2008. I would be willing to bet that in 2009 (or 2010) we will have to petition again for dates. Something tells me that they will never be back.
