  • Nickelback is bad enough....i honestly think they are the worst piece of crap band to ever write a song; they have only written one they just continuously change the words a bit. I don't hate alot of things but i truely hate their music and always have. Go fuck yourself with that rockstar bullshit song. ok im done. But thank you Canada for Uncle Neil

Bands like Nickleback definitely do suck, and pretty much everyone I know is ashamed of them. The thing is though, that they get played on radio in Canada because of "Canadian Content" rules... Why do they get played in the US?

There are so many amazing Canadian bands, but very few of them get recognition south of the border. Sometimes those shitty bands don't even get big in Canada until after they have become big in the US.

I don't think they are just played because of CanCon, but because they are one of those bands/artists like Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams where you can't even tell the songs apart anymore that are classified as 'middle of the road' and therefor deemed ideal for radio. They are played over here in Austria just as often as in Canada or the US.

Sad thing is, I met people who line up to scream hysterically at Bryan Adams from the first row or think Jon Bon Jovi can actually sing. I guess we're just not the target group ;)

I just managed to 'infect' someone with Blue Rodeo/Jim Cuddy again this week though, so there's still hope :D

  • Finger Eleven's first 2 albums, while not groundbreaking, are actually pretty decent. Of course by their third album they started shifting their sound and image to whatever was "popular" at the time.

    Good band.

They are Canadian. With the exception of Neko, who is a semi-Canadian.

  • The Band! Everyone in the Band was from Canada except Levon Helm, I do believe.

And right now, I have my favorite "Sunday morning with a cup of coffee by the fire" band:

They've been mentioned a couple times already, but I don't think you could ever mention them enough. Greatest rock band in the world. (sorry Pearl Jam). 22 years into their career and they still kick more ass than most bands half their age. Lone may they run!

In Bryan's defense...he's kinda like Phil Collins in that he had hits that went way too far up the ladder and stayed up there for way too long(oversatuation). Bryan is one hellofa geetar player, singer/songwriter...he deserves kudos. I'm not his biggest fan but I will say he has talent, like Phil Collins.

Besides how can anyone not get Summer of 69? ;)

How about Tom Cochrane and Red Rider?

Also, I gotta give some kudos to Gordie Johnson(Big Sugar). He has had one hellofa a great year, as a producer...and he ain't a bad geetar player either!
I haven't got into his Grady work as of yet but as a producer he did 2 cds last /this year that I would consider masterpieces.
  • Tragically Hip, Sam Roberts, Matt Mays, Neil Young, Sinclaire, Our Lady Peace are all fantastic from canada.

Do we need to list about all the bad american music that poisons our radio waves? The list would be way longer.

My point was that Canada hasnt produced enough good music to make up for the abundance of crap that they have produced. Naming a bunch of average or bad bands that most have never even heard of wont change my mind on it either

That's cause you're a stubborn close-minded fool who refuses to open his ears to some of the best rock n' roll on the planet. Everybody in this thread continues to prove you wrong time and time again, and yet here you still are. You don't like Canadian music, we get it. Now piss off!
