playing three notes for 20 minutes has overrated written all over it.
not only do i think this band is overrated, but i think they suck. all this talk of great musicians, great song structures, blah blah blah. its 3-5 notes over and over again. the same thing tom morello does, except he uses the same 3 notes in every song, but at least his stuff rocks, and doesnt bore you to tears.
I voting for this if ever there's a competition for post of the year... I genuinely laughed out loud
In our mutual hate for Sigur Ros, we can be happy... that we're not alone...
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
Radiohead. It's not that I dislike them, but in the UK you'd think that Thorn Yorke was Jesus H Christ himself the way people go on about him and the band.
OASIS. Totally unoriginal. All they've done is mimic The Beatles in every aspect possible.

never got the Bruce Springsteen thing either (sounds like he's on the toilet when he sings), and I'm a jersey girl. I'd like to add Bob Dylan also. Can't listen to most of his songs
You made me laugh out loud And I agree, Springsteen is number 2 for me.

I can't think of another album so decidedly average in spite of overwhelming praise as London Calling.
Apart from Sgt Pepper's.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
Overrated how? No one likes to admit they like them and yet they wrote perfect pop songs. Underrated if anything

"Let them wash away,... all those yesterdays."
how does a band like Sigur Ros make your list anyhow?
if you randomly ask 10 people if they've heard of Sigur Ros I doubt that even 1 in 10 actually have.
how can they be overrrated when they aren't even popular?
Is it the band or the fans of the band that are most annoying?
I don't understand how a band can be overrated that does numerous free concerts every year for cause.
I can understand that a person may not like Sigur Ros...but to call them overrated is such a stretch that it sounds like you might have some personal issues that are clouding your rating system.
...just sayin... I don't think your opinion is qualifiable....
every band that you're going to name has been inspired directly or indirectly from the Beatles.
Bullshit as far as the whole inspiration thing goes. How can you honestly know what inspired a band to do something? A lot of the bands that I listen to would make Joe Strummer or Johnny Rotten or Richard Hell, or Darby Crash their 'Gods'...not fucking John Lennon, or Paul McCartney. Just because something came before something else does not automatically mean that the latter owes the former a debt of gratitude by any means. Does anyone ever say that the Beatles owe everything to Mozart, or Beethoven, or Hayden...Or Charlie Parker, or Duke Ellington, or Miles Davis? They fuckin should, but they don't. The Beatles invented nothing. They stood on the shoulders of giants and got most of the credit.
And just because you've never heard of a band doesn't minimize their place in the music world. That makes ZERO sense. I like a lot of old hardcore bands, that are absolute LEGENDS in their circles. The fact that you may have never heard of them doesn't mean anything. It's just not your thing.

yep yep
maybe one 1 of 10 people know sigur ros, but 10 out of 10 sigur ros fans think they are some brilliant, untouchable band. if people that listened to sigur ros was like 'yeah they have some good songs, they're ok i guess' i wouldnt be saying overrated. every time that band is mentioned anywhere its all in some godly praise.
what does free concerts have to do with being overrated? maybe if people were slinging the term sell-out around it might matter, but not whether i band is overrated.
my term for overrated is a simple one, does the band live up to the hype of their common fans + hardcore fan + whatever media coverage they get.
and not popular, dont kid yourself. from wikipedia here is a list of their new album on the charts. they broke the top 20 in america, one of the hardest markets to get a top selling album. 5th in uk??? someone must be buying their albums.

For all of you who would call the stones overrated, I'm wondering how old you all are?
I think if you were born after "Tattoo You" was released I can't help but to agree with you.
however if you experienced them in the late 60s or 70s I would guess you have a different outlook.
The Stones were the shit back in the day, they shoulda stayed retired in the 80s.
thoughts?
Fuckin love the stones, but don't think they should have went away. Tattoo You, Emotional Rescue, Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, A Bigger Bang were all good albums. Of course they're not Beggar's banquet, Sticky Fingers, or Exile on Main street. But that's what happens when you're in a band for more than 20 years or so. You move on to another chapter. Do you think Metallica will EVER reach the heights of Kill 'em all, Ride the lightning, Master of puppets, or And Justice for all again? No..Does that mean they should have quit?
Bruce Springsteen, he is not so much overrated, I just can't stand him.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?
The White Stripes are also pretty high on the list.
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Yeah, KISS is the worst band I've ever heard.

Anyways, IMO the most overrated band ever is U2. I don't think their music was good enough to garner the attention and praise it's received.
The White Stripes are also pretty high on the list.
