Soundgarden-Live they were horrible, so bad they have the distinction of being the only band I've ever walked out on twice.

Camper Von Beathoven I enjoy some of their stuff and they opened for Modest Mouse last summer. I didnt think it was possible to be bored at a concert till I heard them play live. They were horrible but Modest Mouse made up for it And the band Zwan or whatever Billy Corigans band after The Smashing Pumpkins. They know how to suck.

I won't be going to any more of their concerts. As a huge fan they have consistently disappointed me in terms of the setlist, the prescence, the sound quality and the interaction. They need to get over their hype and play songs from their WHOLE backcatalogue, not just the Fruciante albums.

No diversity. Hate to say it, but they are just a poor live band.

Here are 2 of mine that I remembered:

The first would be Dashboard Confessional opening up for Weezer back in 2002. The band that opened up first, was Sparta, which totally kicked ASS and I was very energetic during their set. Then Dashboard came on, and my friends all liked them, so I was like, okay, i'll give them a try. Well, then within the first 5 mins. of their set, I started falling asleep standing up, on the floor. I started to sway back and forth and almost fell back in front of another fan. :p Everyone around me was singing along to their lyrics, and all I could think of was "PLEASE be OVER! You are killing me w/this crap!' I had to literally suffer through their set, and that is why whenever i hear dashboard, I fall asleep. hahaha The MOST boring band I would EVER see!

I was just thinking about that tour. I saw that in San Antonio and Sparta came out and got the crowd going. And then Dashboard Confessional came out and it just brought it all down for me. It was so damn boring. I've never had to suffer through a band before like that. Horrible.

I just remembered I also took my younger cousins to Warped Tour. Everyone was having a good time. Even the bands I thought would suck turned out to be half way decent. Then my cousins wanted to see New Found Glory. Absolute Shit. Horrible singing, horrible playing. The singer kept yelling at the crowd for not getting into it. Well, we'll get into it when you stop sucking. Even my little cousins were bored. Thank God, I think they stopped being fans after that show.

EXACTLY. even if you leave at the encore you beat the traffic and get to make a fair assessment.

    My worst headliners....

They Might Be Giants--the prissy asshole singer was upset about something with the venue and took it out on the college students who paid $15 to see them by giving them a 60 minute show. Professionalism!

I've seen Aerosmith 6 times, and 5 were good. But, once on the Nine Lives tour, they were just waaay off. I didn't hold it against them because lawn was $17 and they have been real good every time since.

Sheryl Crow--I had high hopes for her, but she just can't do it live.

    openers....

Sleater-Kinney---ugh. I don't know what Ed sees in them.

(No joke) Some stand up comedian opened for Weird Al and managed to make fun of handicapped children. Al was great, though.

    Ozomatli---just awful

Fun Lovin' Criminals---U2 isn't great at picking openers

Macy Gray---Dave Matthews isn't good at it either

Iggy Pop--actually, a lot of Pearl Jam openers have sucked, too

Blind Mellon---sorry to the late Shannon, but they were awful live

Mookeywrench, I suppose that it is entirely possible that the Flaming Lips played live when YOU saw them but they certainly did not when I did.

Time circa 1997 Location The Cats Cradle in Carrboro, NC

Zaireka tour, I think. Wayne pretended to play drums on a big white panel then "conducted" an imaginery orchestra. The other couple of guys just danced around (not in furry suits either) or clapped their hands. The audience was given mini radios with earphones to hear some other taped music layers on. No live singing, no instruments on stage.

Nice concept, terrible show. NOT PLAYED LIVE!!! Please don't come off all smarty pants like when you are merely making an ASSumption.

I guess you really enjoyed them yourself, terrific. I saw a PBS show from their last tour, it looked like they have improved their act. But they sure sucked back then.

  • Gotta agree with the person above, U2 really are crap at picking opening acts. Kayne West for their down under tour? I mean really.....

Anyway although I havent been to too many concerts, I pick Velvet Revolver in 2005. Scott Weiland was absolute shite. It all seemed an act and his voice was crap, Duff looked half asleep and Matt Sorum looked so fake on the drums it made me cringe. I have to say Slash was at his sensational best so at least I got to see him doing his stuff, but the rest of them were pathetic. A shame , seeing I loved the album.

you're talking about the headphones experiment....it wasn't meant to be a live show, rather more of a communal musical event for people in the audience to be a part of with the lips as the conductors...of coarse it would have sucked as a live show...because it wasn't a live show.

I can't believe Death Cab has been mentioned twice on this thread...I think they're amazing live. Much better live than studio band I think..Aww well, I'd have to say Fuel when they opened for Aerosmith a few years back...that lead singer was TERRIBLE. I see why he quit. Chris Dautrey could do a much better job.

Yes, Death Cab is an electric sound...Hard and melodic at the same time...I think the people here who dislike them have never seen them headline a show.. They are a treat, They probably have only seen them on the VFC.... See them headline and be prepared to have your opinions changed.

My worst might have been Velvet Revolver..I hated them before, and and hated them more after.. Weiland is such a douche. They played in Mt. Pleasent MI and the crowd was totally indifferent the whole show, sitting, talking and generally pissing the band off. Can't blame the town or venue as the Killers played the same venue a month earlier and won the "Casino" crowd over, and IMO, they were great..

I wholeheartedly agree!! These guys suck ass. A friend of mine and I saw them play bonebash last year (annual radio festival in Dallas) and they were soooo awful. From the minute Jesse James Dupree opened his mouth and started attempting to sing (if that's what you can call it) we were like WTF is this crap. I think they only played like two full songs. Aside from that, they butchered a rolling stones song or 2, and attempted to imitate Jimi Hendrix Playing the national anthem by putting the mic up to his mouth, and vocalizing Jimi's guitar sound with his mouth. How these guys ever got a record deal is beyond me. I thought STYX was the worst band ever until seeing these guys. Styx sucked ass, but Jackyl took their spot as the worst band ever. Night ranger played shortly after and were not much better. This years bone bash will hopefully be better.

    1. Hoobastank-
Saw them opening for Velvet Revolver. Horrable band! I now only refer to them as hoobashit.

    2. The Click 5
Boring. Embarassing. Horrable. Just an opening band. But it was BAD

    3. Pretty Girls Make Graves
Walked out on the 3rd song. Very annoying band.

    4. Sonic Youth.
Playing at the bridge school benefit. Boring, pointless, and completly un-entertaining. Im not looking foraward to having to sit through them for 3 times in SF this July.

I got that in one concert............great one minute, walking off the stage pissed the next. The concert was held at a horse racing track........traffic sucked........the lines sucked getting in the track.........they had watered down the field, and then it rained........so the mud was about six inches deep.....and of course it started ending up on stage. That's what pissed Axel off. This was 1991.

The Smashing Pumpkins on the Summersault 2000 tour. They were just HORRIBLE. Also, I am not a fan of Sleater-Kinney. I would not be able to listen to them in concert again. I know they have their fans but I am not amongst them.
I have to agree on that. They kicked ass in '96 and I saw them on Easter of '00 and they played so fast it sounded like distorted crap. I think they played Zero in 26 seconds...lol

Rocket From the Crypt......They opened for Soundgarden and were by far the worst band i've seen. They had matching outfits with sparkles and they did this really lame clapping routine in rhythm.

Served to reinforce my motto most opening acts are better enjoyed from the beer garden

I thought My Morning Jacket was pretty horrible. The vocalist has to be one of the worst I've heard and both a friend and myself were cringing. The drummer was great though and so were the guitars but everytime the singer opened his mouth I tried closing my ears. I think Trapt is going to win this honor next week though. Wish they weren't touring with Shinedown.

    THE BLACK CROWES.

I know... that's gonna start a lot of shit but... They opened for Tom Petty last summer. I was lookin' forward to hearing some of the songs I know by them but they litterally sat on the stage and played as if they were messing around at practice in a garage. No entertainment whatsoever and they didn't play a single song the crowd knew. By the time their set was over, I had just realized they were actually playing a set.

    Petty was great though

    Um, Shinedown?.... Why?

Jim James of MMJ has a wonderful voice, it overpowered Eddies during thier "It makes No difference" cover... He has an amzingly powerful- yet soft voice. Friggin' genius sound.
