Notice Soundgarden is written as two words? Seems no one on the positive side of this has a fucking clue about the man's musical past. Right down to the band name

If it is possible to smoke too much, I must have crossed that bridge years ago. Now I'm just riding the wave of something like senility. Good times...

Do people feel as if they were personally betrayed by CC, or are they just having fun bashing him?

Fun. I definitely don't feel personally betrayed, but I do feel that he's letting himself down, big time. So he's both an easy target, and a deserving target. Win win.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I just question his motivations. Had this album really come across as a genuine genre-bending extravaganza I would have been happy. I was in no way bothered to hear that he was working with Timbaland, because I thought it would result in something really unique, but the results are distinctly underwhelming, so far. It all just seems to follow the very strict parameters of what Timbaland produces, thus he had to put his spoken word bits and generic beats into songs. I just wonder why Cornell has handed over quite so much of the musical reins to Timbaland, when they could have come up with something a little more balanced in terms of their individual input.

The result is, that he has completely polarised his fans, and he's having to fully embrace the corporate side of musical marketing in order to appeal to new fans so as to make this a success. And it is this that I have a problem with. I could handle another duff album - it couldn't get much worse than Carry On, but the shameless Verizon adverts and marketing based on his looks alone, really irritate me.

    Very well said!
Plus we are having some fun with the bashing, after all, the whole is quite hilarious.

    Indeed :D

It almost makes me laugh that I would say a bad word against him, considering this time last year I had just seen him perform a nearly 3 hour long show, and it absolutely blew my mind. This guy is capable of incredible things, but this new music just seems to lack sincerity.

This Is What I Said On The "More News About Chris Cornell" Thread.
I have some things to say.

1:What's next,CC singing with Lil Wayne? I can't imagine my reaction if that ever happen. I am already shocked that he is gonna be doing R and B songs that all the kids in my class are gonna be singing because they like rap and R and B.

2:He's gonna be doing this with Timbaland? Oh God.

3:Long Gone is not good to me.

    Hahaha, good one.

I think I do feel some betrayal...not to sound like a crazy fan or anything; the bashing is a defense mechanism really.
I mean, I decided to try and learn guitar initially to play some AS/SG/CC songs (I still suck at playing, but that's not the point). Seeing those pictures of him smashing guitars! wtf! It sucks.

What bothers me the most is that he went solo because he wanted more control and whatnot. Seems like he had nothing to do with this album except vocals.

Its not betrayal. It is simply disheartening to see someone whose music has always been so inspired and just fucking real, come to this. Its not always been about what an amazing vocalist he is. The man can flat-out write a great song. Even Carry On, as many of you that hate it, had a few moments of brilliance.

Scream not only lacks great songwriting, its not even close to being good. And what's worse, he didn't write it. Those of you who've been around a while might remember back to the early 90s when Chris made fun of bands who used "hit-generators" to help write their material. He and Kim frequently attacked bands who used a guy called Desmond Child as a co-writer. Desmond Child was kind of a big deal back then in manufacturing hit songs for hard rock bands. But I digress.

He's turned his back on all his principles. The quote that's been floating around: "music driven by money deserves to fail." The fact that he frowned upon "outsiders" coming in and writing songs for bands because they had no idea how to capture that artists' true vibe. He viewed this as selling out.

Bottom line: This album, its contents, the ways he is promoting it...all go against everything he seemingly ever stood for. As someone who's been a fan of his music for almost 20 years, its very unsettling

Yeah, the whole guitar bashing thing is lame. But, hey, dude got a huge reaction from Scream being featured on One Tree Hill, what's musical credibility worth when you can have that?

Plus, it looks like they're mostly Epi's. I was thinking, if they weren't, and they were Gibsons, way to relate to the common man by destroying $10,000+
worth of guitars for a promo shot.

Honestly, I feel like I'm mourning the end of a long term relationship. There are great moments and incredible music and songs that I'll always cherish but the disappointment in this shit is starting to put a damper on those great memories and it breaks my heart as well as just pisses me off!

Someone said it best...all that talent...great song writer...OK to expand and do something different but to let someone else write your songs and totally take away who you are...very lame.

6 weeks to record this album...shameless!!! He should spend some time and truly put something out ground breaking.

Reviews are coming in on ITunes.

Watch Out is so terrible than even the ST'ers can't get it past 1 1/2 stars. But they have managed to give Scream a good review and Ground Zero a decent one. They really have no shame, they all give everything 5 stars. At least try to pretend not to look like shills and give it 4.

For the record, I gave Scream and Ground Zero 2 stars and Watch Out 1, only because -847 wasn't an option.

This is why I loathe the CC Street Team tactics. They sit there, vote over and over, to skew results of polls and reviews. They think they are doing Chris a favor - what a joke.

What are they really so afraid of? The truth - that some people (or possibly the majority) may not like it. They are essentially stuffing ballad boxes just to validate their own opinion. Such a sign of insecurity!!

If you like something that everyone hates - take pride in your individuality and foresight. Instead of working your fingers to the bone, deleting cookies and re- voting. They are trying to prove they are "right" with falsified results and fake realities as evidence. Beyond ridiculous! I would think Chris would be embarrassed by this effort on his behalf.

Hu ? Just because my opinion isn't 100 % the same than the non stop bashing, i'm a member of the brainwashed street team ? lol

You're wrong, in fact i'm Cornell's daddy, and i'm very proud my son is less nihilistic nowadays, yeah he wants some pink birthday cakes now, and a glamorous washing machine for his high tech jeans, so what ? He tries new things, leave him alone, LEAVE CORNELL ALONE !!! Or i call the Cornell's own Chris Crocker, you bastards

Watch out is awful, ground zero/ never far away so so, Long gone cheesy but gets easily stuck in the head, & Scream is a NICE song even if it's risky to write it here

I don't feel betrayed by him at all. With me its just more the shock of what he has done to his career. I think most artist would kill to have the credibility and the industry wide respect people had for him. He throws it all down the drain to try and be cool with the MTV crowd. I don't get it.

    Funny story.

This morning I am in the shower and my wife comes into the bathrooom to ask me if the shirt she is wearing is still ok to wear. Usually she's asks these types of questions because she's a teacher and doesn't want to wear anything to sexy or showing too much cleavage or whatever. Not today. Today I look out of the shower and see she is wearing the CC t-shirt she picked up at a concert last year. I laugh and say don't worry, nobody in the 9th grade knows who CC is and besides your long hair covers the only place it actually says Chris Cornell.

She then adds - well, if anyone asks, I'll tell them I'm in mourning.

    Hey everyone.

It’s Tues. September 23 and while everyone is running around talking about wide spread panic in the economy and the end of life as we know it, let's talk about something important. Music, and real people.
I just spent a very full day with my friend and director Meiert Avis walking on the streets of Brooklyn shooting a video for a song from my new album "Scream." The song is called "Ground Zero."
This was total guerilla style filming. No extras. No food. No trailer. No lights. No anything but me, the song, a camera and the people of Brooklyn walking on the streets.
I can't say enough about how amazing New Yorkers are. I could walk up to anyone in the middle of filming and they would jump right into the action. Digging on the song. Dancing. And enjoying life in the moment and the strange things that happen on the streets of New York. We filmed from sun up to sundown, eventually attracting a huge crowd partly due to my wife, Vicky, just being there. (Ever the proud husband). NYC is truly one of the greatest cities in the world. I can't wait to see the outcome on film.
We came home last night to a killer response to the airing of the T.V. Show "One Tree Hill" which featured the title track from "Scream," a great reaction from old and new fans alike. You can download this song on Itunes. I am extremely proud of this new album and I look forward to people hearing it as it was intended by Timbaland and myself from beginning to end in one shot! It’s a must do. You ain’t heard nothin’ yet!!!! C

No, Chris is a horrible writer as far as spelling and grammar are concerned. Not that this is Hemingway or anything, but if it is Chris, somebody took the time to spell check and edit it for him.
