I'd never post this over at NineBullets, but while I respect and love all the songwriters in this band, I think Jason is the real "talent" - the guy that will write songs that people will love for decades. (I hope his solo disc isn't pushed too far back).

I like Jason's stuff, but I always gravitate toward Patterson's stuff...that being said...he is a great songwriter...very talented.
He brings so much to this band.

They all do really... I feel like I'm betraying Cooley and Patterson when I say that... cuz they are top notch.
I think so too...maybe that's why I said I dig Patterson's stuff...because when I think about it...I really like Jason's tunes.
They all bring their own talents to the band and it's songwriting process.

As per the ongoing conversation........Isbell probably has the greatest potential, and could probably carve out a better solo career than the other two song writers. He is probably more mainstream than Cooley and Hood, and I don't mean that in a bad way. That being said.....it's probably the Cooley songs that push my buttons.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
Since I tuned my guitar down to "D", I've been playing the hell out of Zip City and Carl Perkin's Cadillac.

Jason Isabell is on his game on this one ....... Dress Blues will bring you to your knees. "You never planned the bombs in the sand, or sleeping in your dress blues"
This song is amazing
"You turned 22 and we`d celebrate you in a bar or a tent by the creek -the baby would just about be here, your very last tour woud be up"
2 1/2 hours till tonights show for me! Well actually it starts at 9 with one of the guys from the Meat Puppets opening, then Son Volt, then the mighty DBT.
Not a bad night of music at all. Plus I get to see them again in a little over a month when they roll into town with the Black Crowes and RRFB.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

To me "The Dirty South" is their masterpiece that just album blows me away everytime i put it in. SRO being the second followed by DD. DD is great I just don't understand why people seem to like that the best and again don't get me wrong I absolutely love outfit, my sweet annette, and such I just find myself skipping through songs the most on that album. I'm not sure how ABAAC ranks up to the others yet but I'm loving it right now. Can't wait to see the truckers with the crowes in va beach.
OK, I didn't keep a setlist but here's some of what we got last night:
Opened up with Heathens, and then in no particular order: Marry Me, Decoration Day, Outfit, Feb 14th, Space City, Gravitys Gone, Aftermath U.S.A., Wednesday, Ronnie & Neil, Women Without Whiskey, Easy on Yourself, Let there Be Rock, and closed with World of Hurt and Lookout Mountain. I'm sure I missed a bunch but it was a great show. The few songs I would have like to have heard were Dress Blues, ZIP City, Living Bubba, and People Who Died. But theres always next time...

You can't go wrong with a concert that includes Women without Whiskey and Lookout Mountain........I suspect that Wednesday is a treat to hear live

Sorry about the double post. 4 hours of sleep will do that to you.
Got to talk to Shonna for a bit after the show too. One of the guys I went with is related to her. Very cool and down to earth.
The whole show was great, no one particular highlight, although I would have loved to hear something off Gangstabilly. Patterson was in great form, you can tell he is living his dream up on stage. He's definately the center of the live show. He dedicated 'Let There Be Rock' to his 15 mo. old daughter, who just said her first curse word.

That's flippin' sweet.
People Who Died brought the house down when I saw them...I would have liked to see Zip City too.

It came down to a decision: Do I spend my money on DBT tickets at the HOB, or do I see my beloved Brewers a few times this weekend while they are here in L.A.
Baseball won out. I'll catch DBT next time around, but I didn't see my Brewers at all last year, and the schedule worked out perfectly... and I love my baseball...
definitely i need to see them next time they roll into town
Agreed. Their live show is unreal. Great musicians...check out ABAAC...it's great.

Regardless of your political beliefs on the situation in Iraq, THAT SONG is a wonderful tribute to the men and women who die fighting for this country... and it should be shared...
It's one of those instant classic songs...lots of emotion and imagery in that tune.

Go to the interview section and there is a piece with Jason and Patterson.
I just got the link, so I haven't even watched it yet.

We're seeing the boys (and a girl) open for the Black Crowes in a couple of weeks.......should be sweet.

There's part of me that keeps thinking: PJ and DBT tour the south when PJ gets back from the land of Ausies...
I know MMJ is getting favorable reviews from PJ fans, but I just gotta believe DBT would blow the roof off the opening set...
Totally agree with this, and after all these years of PJ bringing out the opening act for encores, I can just imagine how fucking killer it would be to have PJ and DBT do a few songs together...
The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.
Yeah, I'd love to see a PJ/DBT tour. How could Ed not help out on Lookout Mountain, Let there be Rock, Ronnie and Neil, or even Buttholeville?
People Who Died would bring down the house...it always does.

But Jason is considerably younger and has already risen to their level...

Danko/Manuel is pretty easy to play too. I'm not that good, and I was able to get it pretty easily.
