NEWLY ENTERED INTO EVIDENCE
Amid (and perhaps belying?) rumors that a new record is already complete, the Atlanta sightings continue: as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, Springsteen and producer Brendan O'Brien took were spotted out on Thursday night, catching a show by The Nightwatchman (A.K.A. Tom Morello) at Smith's Olde Bar. (O'Brien also produced Morello's new acoustic record, The Nightwatchman's One Man Revolution.)
And for exhibit B, on the tour side of things, tomorrow's Minneapolis Star Tribune features good news from longtime music critic Jon Bream: "Look for... Bruce Springsteen in the Twin Cities in the fall."

SPRINGSTEEN & SEEGER TEAM UP ON TWO TRACKS
Yeah, we thought it was gonna be a busy fall. In addition to whatever else we might be waiting for, we'll be getting new Springsteen recordings on two different albums from Appleseed Recordings, both with Pete Seeger. With all the Seeger-this and Seeger-that of the last year, it's been a little strange that Bruce and Pete haven't actually done anything together along the way. That changes in September, with the release of two Springsteen/Seeger collaborations as Appleseed celebrates its ten-year mark:
Sowing the Seeds: The 10th Anniversary (due Sept. 11)
A two-disc set will feature Seeger and Springsteen's new take on "The Ghost of Tom Joad," plus: "Bring Them Home" by Seeger, Billy Bragg, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle & Anne Hills; several unreleased Seeger cuts; and more from artists like Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton, Tim Robbins, Bruce Cockburn, Donovan, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott.
Springsteen and Seeger recorded their vocals for "Tom Joad" separately: Pete at his cabin in Beacon, NY, on July 4, 2006 -- what Appleseed's Jim Musselman calls "the Springsteen Sessions" -- with Springsteen adding his later (along with acoustic guitar and harmonica) at his own Boxwood Studio. Read the liner notes for a lengthier description of the collaboration, additional players and recording info, and more.
Feels Like Home (due September 25)
Another various artists compilation, this one devoted to the plight of the homeless, has Seeger and Springsteen doing "Hobo's Lullaby." They're backed by the Sessions Band on this one, a Goebel Reeves song notably performed by Woody and Arlo Guthrie. Other artists include Jon Bon Jovi, Natalie Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, and Buffalo Tom; some of them are paired with artists who are or were once homeless. The album is part of the Give US Your Poor campaign, raising funds and awareness to fight homelessness.

GOES TO SHOW YOU NEVER CAN TELL
Bruce Springsteen: wedding singer. Not an unjust alternate universe, but the scene Thursday night, as Bruce joined the Hank Lane-affiliated Jeff Lubin Band for two songs. People.com reports:
Guests at a private wedding at Florentine Gardens in River Vale, NJ, got a big treat recently: An impromptu (and YouTube worthy) performance by Bruce Springsteen. The Boss, a friend of the couple, jumped up on stage with Hank Lane Music – yes, the wedding band – strapped on a guitar and performed his song "If I Should Fall Behind." He then stayed up to join in for the Chuck Berry classic "C'Est La Vie," trading solos with the band's saxophonist and keyboardist. After his star turn onstage, Springsteen and his wife hit the dancefloor together.
Elaborating on that last sentence is a report on the Hank Lane website(where the above photo comes from): "The Boss could later be seen on the dance floor enjoying himself as the Jeff Lubin Band cranked out pop/rock classics such as John 'Cougar' Mellencamp's 'Hurts So Good' and Bon Jovi's 'Living on a Prayer.'" On second thought, maybe this was an alternate universe.

IT'S INDEPENDENCE DAY
Well, the day before Independence Day, actually... but we're taking tomorrow off and just wanted to wish everyone a good one. And to offer a quick Boss flashback: this week marks the 26th anniversary of the opening of the Brendan Byrne Arena (a.k.a. the Meadowlands Arena) in East Rutherford, NJ, by none other than Bruce and the E Street Band. 26 years ago tonight, July 3, 1981, was their second show of six at the Meadowlands, a great one featuring Gary U.S. Bonds and the debut of "This Little Girl." The stand also included Bruce's premiere of Tom Waits' "Jersey Girl," plus several performances that would later make the Live/1975-85 box.
The Backstreets office will be closed on Wednesday for the holiday, but our online shop will be open 24/7 as always, and we'll be back on Thursday to resume business as usual. In the meantime, check out the George Lamb show on BBC6 tomorrow for some live Springsteen, and have a happy and safe Fourth!

THEY REPORT. WE CLARIFY. WE CAREFULLY AVOID MAKING ANY PRONOUNCEMENT WHATSOEVER. YOU DECIDE.
Adding to the chatter about an impending Springsteen album is today's report from Fox News' Roger Friedman: "Bruce Springsteen to Release New E Street Band Album in Fall." We should point out that, despite the headline, there has been no official announcement, and this has yet to be confirmed as a sure thing. That said, Friedman's tentative scenario has a definite ring of truth, consistent with what we've been hearing from other sources. Friedman writes:
...The Boss, as we still call him, is apparently planning a new album for release in late fall. Some sources insist that this will be an E Street Band album, and not another side project like the "Seeger Sessions" or a solo collection of introspective songs....
Sources tell me that tracks have been recorded with the group, and that the hope among Bruce insiders is that he will choose their project over several others he may have cooking.
"You never know," one observer said, "but it's looking better and better."
Sony insiders definitely confirmed in the last few days that Springsteen is scheduled to release new music before the end of the year....
Thing is, it's still too early to say what's going to happen, which is why we do our best to separate rumor from fact before making any solid assertions here on Backstreets.com. For instance, let's say we had suggested in June that Springsteen and a particular house-rocking, nerve-shocking, earth-quaking, history-making band would be starting a tour in Europe in October; and then as of July, we began hearing that the plan had changed: that we were now looking at a barnstorming tour of the U.S. instead (a la the beginning of the Rising tour) in October and November, before heading to Europe for a few dates in December? When plans are still in flux, better for us to avoid such talk altogether.
Or in terms of this new record: Fox reports that "tracks have been recorded," which is true. But if one were to clarify and posit that an album isn't done yet, that Springsteen will really be getting down to business in the studio later this month, after a quick trip to Europe next week for Patti Scialfa to do some advance European press for her new album, would that suck some of the exciting certainty out of Fox's headline? And who wants to spoil that fun, especially if it's likely true even if nowhere near set in stone? Friedman mentions a "late fall" release... what if we'd heard early October? Say, October 2? Is that "late fall"? Do these jibe? Is it too early to say? Surely it is. So we'll keep our mouths shut, keep our ears to the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.

the question is various mebers having different conflicts, a world tour is probably at this juncture not happening, back and forth across the pond, then a barnstorming US tour is more likely,
The Big Man has a few issues, from a detached retina and bi lateral hip replacements- its not easy being the big man - or holding up the big man and blowing the horns ! !
what i always look forward to is the reharearsal shows at convention hall down at asbury park - one advantage of geographical proximity !
heres a little something- you get the idea,
this place is like a gymnasium-= epic shows at this venue. and yeah i was at this today show thing - out in the sand on the beach- it was like 1000 degrees at 6 am .
What is interesting is the most definitive and positive news relates to the tour, which will be the last for the entire ESB. Rehearsals for the tour are once again scheduled for AP around Labor Day. Look for the tour to kick off on or about 10/02/2007 in New York with a quick swing around the country until the end of November. All of the major cities, to include LA, DC, Philly, Boston, Chicago, etc. will be covered. The month of December will include a quick tour of Europe, about 10 shows or so. January and part of February look to be time off with a full world tour to begin in full effect during the Spring of 2008 (Feb/March) with outdoor arena shows scheduled for the summer of 2008. The U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia, will all be on the schedule. Bottom line is that we are now entering the final stages in preparation for the final ESB world tour. Stay tuned."

othger new news :
BRUCE PRAISES "UNDERRATED POWER POP MASTERS"
They're berry good.
Springsteen has mentioned the band before in shout-outs from the concert stage, but evidence of his admiration for 1970's power pop icons the Raspberries has now been confirmed in print. The band is primed to release Raspberries Live On Sunset Strip on July 31, and Springsteen has contributed to the liner notes:
"...they are THE great underrated power pop masters. Their best records are as fun and sound as fresh today as when they were released. Soaring choruses, Beach Boys harmonies over crunchy Who guitars, lyrics simultaneously innocent, lascivious, and all about sex, sex, sex continue to make an unbeatable combination. "Go All The Way," "I Wanna Be With You," "Let's Pretend," "Tonight," all still deliver on their three minutes of promised ecstasy, while "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)" still raises the hair on your arms and should go down as one of the great mini-rock opera masterpieces of all time."

ANOTHER LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS
Out now in the U.K., Sarfraz Manzoor's new book will be of interest to Springsteen fans, as you'd guess from the title: Greetings From Bury Park. Subtitled Race, Religion, and Rock 'n' Roll, it's a memoir of a Pakistani Muslim -- and a devoted Springsteen fan, which is no small part of his story -- growing up in Britain. A review in The Guardian observes: "...since 7/7 there seems to be a greater urgency to comprehend the particular challenges for British Muslims, and the conflicts they face between traditional and western lifestyles. In this aptly-timed memoir, it is Bruce Springsteen's lyrics that provide a route into that territory." Check out another review in The Observer, and Manzoor's blog is here. It'll be a few more months before the book is published in the States; here it is at Amazon.co.uk.

BACK ON THE BLOCK
As they did last year, the National Priorities Project is auctioning a print of this beautiful Annie Leibovitz photograph of Springsteen in 1999, previously seen in her book, American Music. Up for auction on eBay beginning on Thursday, it's a large (20" x 24"), limited edition print (Artist Proof #6), signed by the photographer, and valued at $5,500. The auction will run from 5 p.m. Thursday, July 19 to 5 p.m. Sunday July 29. Watch this space for a link once the auction starts.
The photograph was taken on September 20, 1999, backstage at the First Union Center in Philadelphia (show #3 of the 6 nights in Philly). Clearly visible is the previous night's setlist, to ensure the requisite setlist changes from night to night. At the moment captured, Bruce had only written that night's list up to "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out." The guitar he's holding and book of songs he's looking at suggest that he's deciding -- at that very moment -- what to play in the famous "post-Tenth" slot in the setlist, often the biggest setlist surprise on any given night... Philly got "Back in Your Arms" that night.

About the Show
July 1, 2000, was the closing night of the 1999-2000 Bruce Springsteen and the E
Street Band "Reunion" tour, their first tour together in over ten years. Not
only was it the final show of the tour, it was also the final show of a
ten-night stand at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Fans had travelled
from all across the globe to be at these shows, many of whom had been to
multiple shows over the course of the tour, and a film crew with high-definition
cameras was on-hand to capture the last three shows.
Expectations of closing night were high. The show two nights earlier was a very
strong performance of a mostly standard set list, while the show four nights
prior included several underplayed nuggets, including the outstanding "Tracks"
tracks "Loose Ends" and "Back in Your Arms," in another solid performance.
(Well, let's be honest here -- the E Street Band had never played better than
they did those last two months of the tour.)
Many fans were wondering if the cameras caused Bruce to play it more cautiously
than he normally would at the penultimate show and were concerned that a similar
fate would affect the finale. However, everyone knew that Bruce would pull
something special out for the last night; the only question was what.
Springsteen took the stage later than usual that night, as the house lights
didn't go down until nearly 8:45, which only raised tensions, and expectations,
in the room.
The opener was a song that Bruce had debuted just three weeks earlier, at
opening night of the Garden stand, "Code of Silence," a song he and Joe
Grushecky co-wrote.
The next four songs were very familiar to those who had followed the tour, but
closing night brought an added intensity, as well as a bit of bittersweetness in
some instances. One couldn't help but to smile wistfully when Bruce yelled,
"C'mon, Steve, once more," before counting off into "Two Hearts."
It was during the last chorus of "Atlantic City," though, when fans realized
this night was going to be special. The call and response on "Meet me tonight
in Atlantic City" between Bruce and the crowd went longer than usual, with the
fans getting louder with each repitition. Bruce was truly "in concert" with
this crowd.
In retrospect, the standard set list worked perfectly on this night. The show
served as a summary of the tour: the opening five rocking the house, the quiet
song duo, the Five Pack, the post-"10th" "wild card" (two on this particular
night!), the quiet political song, the epic, the rockin' set closer, the rockin'
first encore, and the communal final encore. Plus, the Garden stand saw the
addition of the combination of "American Skin" and "The Promised Land," between
the quiet song duo and the Five Pack. "American Skin" showed that Bruce could
still write a relavant rock song, one that could shine a new light on a
Springsteen classic.
Legendary Springsteen shows always feature intensity and goofiness, and the
post-"10th" spots delivered each. The fun "E Street Shuffle," complete with a
"Let's continue to be silly now" intro, let everyone show off their moves. The
first tour debut of the night was "Lost in the Flood," which had topped many
fans' wish lists. With Danny's slow organ fade in and Roy's piano building the
tension before the song exploded, "Lost in the Flood" stood out on a night when
almost every other song was nailed perfectly by the E Street Band.
Bruce started the encores with a solo piano performance of "The Promise," the
fourth time on the tour he had played the song. Since Bruce played "The
Promise" two nights earlier, its inclusion wasn't a total surprise. After a
roadhousin' "Ramrod" that saw his goofy side re-emerge, Bruce counted in "Bobby
Jean," a song that normally would bring groans from many die-hards, but felt
very appropriate on the last night of the tour. An all-house-lights-on "Born to
Run" closed out the first encore. As the tour wound down, Bruce integrated a
little schtick into "Born to Run," pointing at each side of the arena as Max
pounded the drums just before the last verse, resulting in a thunderous response
from the crowd. On July 1, the audience nearly drowned out the most powerful
rock band in the land.
Another new song, "Further On Up the Road," opened the second set of encores
with many fans hoping the song's chorus -- "I'll meet you further on up the
road" -- to be prophetic. With a small handful of exceptions, every show of the
tour, including this one, featured the same second encore: the classic "Thunder
Road," the spotlight-sharing "If I Should Fall Behind," and the anthemic "Land
of Hope and Dreams."
Before "Land Of Hopes And Dreams," Bruce thanked his managers, Jon Landau and
Barbara Carr, the "mighty men and women" of the crew, the band, and the crowds
in New York and around the world. When Bruce thanked the band, the crowd broke
into a chant of "E Street Band! E Street Band!" Starting in the "pit area" in
front of the stage as a result of the stage rush, the chant gradually took over
the entire building, surprising and moving the Band. Bruce finally told the
lighting guys to "Put some damn lights on 'em," as the stage had been mostly
dark, apart from Bruce's spotlight, up to that point.
As "Land of Hope and Dreams" wrapped up, more than a couple of eyes in the crowd
had gotten a little misty. It was hard not to think about the previous 15
months of roadtrips, late night diners, and the evolution of many a relationship
as Bruce sang about grabbing "your ticket and your suitcase" and laying "your
head upon my chest."
When Bruce and the Band made no indication they were leaving the stage after
"Hope and Dreams," the big question was, what song would they do? They've
already done "Ramrod," a popular "extra" throughout the tour. Would they go
nostaligic with "Rosie," which some in the crowd were yelling for? A new song?
Minds raced.
After Bruce gave a short plug for "Food for Survival," a New York City foodbank,
he said, "We got one more we wanna do for ya, but we're gonna need a little bit
of quiet. Come on, my friends." A single keyboard chord began, joined shortly by
Max's high hat keeping a slow but steady beat. The crowd started clapping
along, but was quickly quieted with a hand gesture from Bruce. The keyboard
chord changed, and the progression made the song obvious: "Blood Brothers."
The last verse of the "Greatest Hits" version of "Blood Brothers" closed the
song on a very ambivalent note, but nothing about the "Reunion" tour was
ambvialent. There was no way Bruce could sing that verse after this tour.
He didn't.
As the music settled after the "houses of the dead" verse, Bruce paused and
motioned for everyone not behind a drum kit or keyboard to come to the front of
the stage, where they joined hands to form a line, facing the crowd. With a
slight twinge of uncertainty and more than a hint of emotion, he sang an
entirely new closing verse:
Now I'm out here on this road
Alone on this road tonight
I close my eyes and feel so many friends around me
In the early evening light
And the miles we have come
And the battles won and lost
Are just so many roads traveled
So many rivers crossed
And I ask God for the strength
And faith in one another
'Cause it's a good night for a ride
'Cross this river to the other side
My blood brothers
The music built back up and the band soared, led by Bruce's harmonica and
Clarence's saxophone, before gently ending.
This new verse surprised everyone, many were moved to tears. Bruce ended
everything -- the song, the show, the stand, and the tour -- in an absolutely
perfect way.
=========================
It has literally been a dream come true for me to be able to mix this show. Ever
since I realized that those incredibly clear but frustratingly flat IEMs could
be mixed with an audience recording to get something considerably better than
either one individually, this was *the* show I wanted to do. I was lucky enough
to mix some pretty cool shows, such as the second Cleveland show from Nov '99,
the first Hartford show from May 2000, and the second Atlanta show from early
June 2000, and I put together a couple of compilations of some IEM/audience
mixes that I listened to far more often than the official "Live in New York
City" releases. But that last show -- with the mix of new material, tour
standards, tour debuts, and the very emotional ending -- was always the one show
I wanted to do, but never got the opportunity.
Until earlier this year.
Spurred in part by TattooDad's "Uber" campaign, one of the IEM tapers offered me
the chance to mix the IEMs with the audience sources. I jumped at the chance,
but I knew that I would have to kick it up a notch to do the show justice.
Several mixes later, this is the result. Between mixing and listening, I've
listened to this show dozens of times over the past three or so months, and I
still can't get enough of it. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I've
enjoyed working on it.
Thanks to TattooDad and the Uber. I owe you guys a big one!

More signs of life for Rocktober
Patti Scialfa has been in Europe the past week, doing press for her upcoming Play It as It Lays LP (her album doesn't drop until September 4, but when everybody's on vacation in August, you've gotta get this stuff done in July). Yesterday in Rome she spoke with journalist Niccolo Borella for Agr, who tells us that she confirmed an E Street album in the works. Borello asked if, in addition to her own album, she was also working in the studio with her husband and the E Street Band, and she replied: "Mm-hmm. Bruce is just finishing the record now... working on a record, and of course I still work with that, I still work with him. The best of both worlds!" Borello thought he'd push his luck and ask for a release date, but Patti got wise: "Ohhhhh -- top, top secret information!" she said, laughing. See the Corriere Della Sera story here.
Here in the States, the Boston Globe adds to the tour chatter: "The Boss's reps couldn't be reached, but the buzz is that Bruce and the E Street Band are in discussions to play the Garden for a couple of nights in mid-November."
We'll keep you posted -- in the meantime, of course, please keep all this in your man-sized vault.

There's a local (Canadian) arts magazine that I read today, which had an in-depth interview with Brendan Obrien. According to Obrien, the new record will be released as "Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band." No mention as to a specific title for the album.
The album apparently takes a cue from Jackson Browne's Running On Empty. The songs were recorded mostly in one take with Bruce AND the band. Forget all the talk of the different members only coming in to do their specific parts. Also, they recorded material for it everywhere- Obrien specifically mentions Bruce recording with Clarence and Steve backstage during the Devils tour. Apparently they recorded a lot of material at Bruce's house with Landau overseeing the sessions.
Musically, Obrien compared it to Blonde on Blonde. Three song titles were given when Obrien described some of the songs as resembling the Stones' Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street material, as well as resembling some early Faces records. The titles he named were "The Blind Spot," "Taxi Cab Alley," and "One Dead Ringer."
Nothing else was mentioned in regards to the new album. Obrien did talk about Bruce some more and their working relationship. Nothing interesting.
The magazine doesn't have an internet link to the article, but I can try to scan it later if you guys want. It's a small paper, but the music editor has had some great interviews recently with the Chili Peppers and Bob Mould, so I'd say this is as good as gold.
So it goes.

So it goes.
Damn, they need to release some concrete details already. This is gonna be huge.
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win

Bruce Springsteen, one of the greatest "Jersey Boys" of them all, slipped backstage at the August Wilson Theater after taking in the musical Wednesday night and met up with Daniel Reichard, Christian Hoff, J. Robert Spencer and John Lloyd Young. Meanwhile, Bruce fans who have a few extra bucks can own a piece of rock 'n' roll history. An acoustic piano once owned by Lynn Goldsmith - a paramour of Springsteen in the '70s - is up for grabs on eBay for $10,000. Goldsmith, a rock photographer, says the Boss used the piano to write some of his tunes, and legends like Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Rick James and Patti Smith also tickled its ivories.

alltho this has not been officially announced, its interesting nonetheless.
here is the thread about this speculation,.......
According to this link, the first round of auditions in Omaha for American Idol 2008 just took place and the producers filmed all (10,000) contestants singing "Born in the USA" together. Apparently, it's the "official" theme song of the Omaha auditions. Does Bruce have to give his permission for that?
if this is indeed true, i think it wouldve been more appropriate to do this in the New Jersey area-however, i can understand the connection with " Nebraska " .

Details of a new Bruce Springsteen album will be announced Thursday morning, and presumably there will be some information about a fall tour as well.
Word from the Springsteen world is that fans can expect an album that reunites him with the E Street Band following his most recent projects with the Sessions Band exploring vintage American folk and blues songs and his more introspective "Devils & Dust" solo album in 2005. If the participation of the E Streeters turns out to be true, it will be their first album together since 2002's "The Rising."
The Springsteen-centric website Backstreets.com also has been fielding reports of a fall tour for several weeks, and reliable reports suggest he may play at least a couple of shows in October at the Inglewood Forum, the site of some of his high watermark shows of the '70s and '80s. But it also would place fans of this champion of the blue-collar worker in the dilemma of whether to cross a picket line to see him. Workers from IATSE Local 33, the stage employees' union, have been involved in a labor dispute with the Forum's operators since mid-2006.

Bruce and Pete Seeger are going to re- visit " The Ghost Of Tom Joad " together ?
from Backstreets

So we'll keep our mouths shut, keep our ears to the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.

othger new news :

=========================

So it goes.

NEW AND IMPROVED -- NOW WITH MORE BRUCE!
There's a brand new cut of the Danny Clinch-directed video for "Broken Radio," with the focus exclusively on Springsteen and Jesse at the mic. Check it out on YouTube.

Goldsmith, a rock photographer, says the Boss used the piano to write some of his tunes, and legends like Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Rick James and Patti Smith also tickled its ivories.

here is the thread about this speculation,.......
if this is indeed true, i think it wouldve been more appropriate to do this in the New Jersey area-however, i can understand the connection with " Nebraska " .
