listen to "Working on a Dream" (song) here...
    http://www.q1043.com/pages/news/brucespringsteen/

Hmmm.... my initial impression is that it's only okay. I hate to say it, but these post-reunion mid-tempo rockers from Bruce are starting to feel a little repetitive I think. It's not a bad song, it's just kinda underwhelming. Maybe it'll grow on me, who knows.

If "Working on a Dream" leaves you wanting more, here's another online preview of the new album. Check outthe new trailer for The Wrestler, the Darren Aronofsky film featuring Mickey Rourke due December 17. Springsteen's "The Wrestler," which he wrote for the film and which will be included as a bonus track on Working on a Dream, gets significant play.

Working On A Dream is a bit naff. As others have mentioned, it's a generic mid tempo rocker that he can do on autopilot these days. It sounds very slick as well, although it's nice to hear the bass for once.

Radio Nowhere was definately a better single (I'd rate that as one of my all time favourite Springsteen songs) but I'm still looking forward to this album. Just hope it isn't rushed.

But The Wrestler sounds fantastic, especially that beautiful piano at the end.

I agree about Radio Nowhere, fantastic song. Simple but really rockin' with really effective lyrics. Working on a Dream is just.... meh.

  • I absolutely adore Bruce, but the new single is pretty terrible. It's as mediocre as music can get in my opinion. I hope the rest of the album is a lot better.

Now, off to listen to 'The Wrestler'!

i think this is one incredibly moving, haunting and melancholy tunes-
    since the Rising period .
    I absolutely love the piano/keys.
This makes me anticipate the new album even moreso.

i'm glad it's on the new record but not so keen on the term "bonus tracks", although it's a lot better than having to buy the record again (like Seeger Sessions). some interesting song titles for this record-Queen of the Supermarket??

The Wrestler is a good song, Night With The Jersey Devil is a good song and although i don't really dig Workin' On A Dream, it's been stuck in my head for days! so i guess that's a good thing.

A Night With The Jersey Devil will not be on this record after all. the track listing has been altered to one bonus track only.

    BALLROOM BLITZ
Lots of chatter about inauguration events today -- and after Bruce Springsteen was so involved in the Obama campaign during the run-up to the election, he's now topping the watch list for the afterparty. The Associated Press notes Springsteen as "widely expected to be involved" on January 20. The L.A. Times plays it as a done deal, with a subhead today reading: "He'll be playing. That much is sure. The question is: where?"

Describing Springsteen as "next to [Obama] himself... the guy most in demand during the coming inaugural season" and "the popular choice to head the celebratory ticket," the Times article goes on to specify: "the Boss is believed to be on board." Of course, he was also believed to be on board for the DNC in August. Regardless, clearly a story to watch.

The Super Bowl, of course, is the only 2009 gig currently on the schedule. As rumors also swirl of E Street Band shows lining up for the spring, the December 11 Rolling Stone reports, "A world tour is expected to begin around the time of [Working on a Dream's Jan. 27] release."

    R.I.P. Odetta Holmes

see was a civil rights era activist and singer.
She played at The Carnegie Hall tribute last year in tributre to Springsteen covering " 57 Channels " ( she did this at 67 years of age no less ) and Bruce said afterwards it was the greatest version of 57 channels ever, even tho he wrote it.

    :)

  • Bruce continues to prove his ability of writing instant classic songs for movies with his latest, 'The Wrestler.' I've got this song on repeat at the moment. What a great great song.

Meanwhile, Springsteen made a surprise appearance Monday night at the fourth Hope Concert in Red Bank, N.J., which also featured Jon Bon Jovi and Southside Johnny. Springsteen performed "Run Run Rudolph" with Bon Jovi and then played "Merry Christmas Baby," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "634-5789," "Avenue" and "Having a Party" with the house band.

I was at Count Basie theatre thanks to B2RQT.
We were located in the very small Lower Loge ( only 3 rows ) perched right over the orchestra,... dead center.
The entire tier was shaking when Bruce hit the stage for Run Run Rudolph.
Bruce looked emaciated , more thin than usual .
He still rocked the house, especially Merry Christmas Baby and grinding guitars on RRR.
Add in Bon Jovi and Southside Johnny and Bobby Bandierra, it was the usual Jersey Shore Music fun .

    happy christmas everyone .
