Back in 2016, I considered Rubio one of the only decent R candidates so I'm fine with this. He's not overly loyal to Trump and at least seems decent. As long as Ted Cruz isn't rewarded with anything important. He can be the fucking WH dog catcher.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I used to like Rubio a decent amount. But like most they decided their principles meant nothing and Trump was all that mattered

Bingo. Have people already forgotten the revolving door in his first term?

Also, the first promise we can hold him to is ending the war in Ukraine in his first 24 hours in office. Russia said it’s not happening but we all know Donnie is a great negotiator!

I'm not saying I like Rubio anymore because he went all in on Trump support, but I think he's better then most at this point. At least it's not MTG, Hawley or one of the other clowns.

AG: Ken Paxton, state AG of Texas.
    CIA Director: Kash Patel
Sec of Energy: Doug Bergun, Gov of ND
Director of National Intelligence: Rick Grenell

Susie Wiles will be COS...not real familiar with her but it's encouraging that it isn't Ted Nugent
Never heard of Wiles until around 2:45am 11/6/24 when Trump called her out on the victory stage. She is a behind the scenes type of person. Doesn't need to be given credit. She supposedly said there will not be a revolving "clown car"  coming into the Oval Office. Which is good. No need for anymore of Sean Hannity.

Good start for Trump. Bonus: she wasn't a DEI hire. She was hired based on merit. We all know what happens with DEI hires.

    Good start for Trump.

i'm old enough to remember when michelle obama wanted to make school lunches healthier and bloomberg wanted to limit the size of sodas and republicans lost their shit.

I am old enough to remember that kids won't eat their veggies and putting a salad bar in a cafeteria is not going to do much for kids.  The soda thing was a farce. I think, I don't know, that MAHA is about education, getting rid of harmful chemicals in food, getting rid of the abundance of processed foods. Not about the Government dictating the size of your soda, etc.

I'm cautiously hopeful about MAHA. RFK, Jr. doesn't seem altogether stable at this point.  That said, if he pulls off outlawing pharmaceutical commercials on TV, that would be huge. It's a part of our culture that has turned our medical professionals into drug dealers. Also, if he can really make a difference in how poisonous and highly processed our foods are, that would be outstanding.

I am skeptical because 1) in both cases, we're looking at greedy companies that have been lining the pockets of elected officials for decades (and not just the Democrats) and we'd need politicians to stop taking their money and 2, as evidenced by:

his new party is not really fond of regulation. We're not going to "personal responsibility" our way out of how fat, sick, and unhealthy we are. If he really wants to make a difference, he's going to need party cooperation in the form of doing things they don't like to do. Our government wants us fat and sick. RFK, Jr. doesn't.

I'm not totally with him on vaccinations. Yeah, forcing people to take experimental vaccinations produced by historically corrupt companies was terrible but he's more anti-vax than that and him wanting first to encourage cities to get fluoride out of the water isn't a great start.

That all said, he's the only one of the "Dream Team" that I think gives a damn about actual people.

I fail to see how his tariff-idea won’t work out better than the EXTREME COMMUNIST IN REALITY VERY RIGHT LEFT in the US is saying?

The USA is the biggest market for many brands. Like Volvo e.g. which most people would agree is a better car than US brands. So let’s take that as an example.

If they can’t compete by putting all the extra cost on the consumer. They would lower their margins or invest in producing their product in the US (yes I know Volvo already does to an extent). I don’t think many companies can leave out the US market or not get sales by having too high prices.

The United States is the world's second-largest trading nation, behind China. In 2022, the U.S. had:
    • Goods exports: $2.1 trillion
    • Goods imports: $3.2 trillion

Do you think we will start paying higher tariffs for our exports to other countries if we institute higher tariffs on imports?  And we import 50% more.

Now - I am all for targeted tariffs...or even gradual....but I am concerned about the cost of across the board large numbers.

His tariff ideas are more about holding China accountable for its practices. There are reasons Biden kept them in place. Made no changes and even expanded their reach through inaction. You talk about the Paris Accord, but what do you think about forced labor? IP theft? Technology hacking and cyber crimes? Government subsidies? The US is not coming after Sweden or its Volvos. But it might come after Ikea for the goods they source in China.

I don't' follow these forums closely. I have no idea what way you lean politically, but don't quit. Just take some time off from here and don't let the extremist (both sides) on this board get to you.

I do understand the frustration though and it's why I rarely post much over the 20+ years I've been a member.  There are a handful of posters who think they have everything figured out. I get tired of seeing the snarky, condescending, and the I'm right your wrong interactions.

I find it hard to believe these people are the same way in real life. I feel sad for them if so.  Aholes can be found in all parties and it's reflected strongly on this forum.

Thank you, Smile.  I'll be back.  Just need some time to get my head straight around this craziness, at least as much as possible, and cool off.
    I appreciate your words.
