As a Minnesota resident, I'm disappointed because we'll be watching the 2020 destruction of Minneapolis for the next few months.

Is it a good pick? Sure. But I don't know that it's better than some of the other options and I don't see Walz (or anyone) moving the needle. It's Trump vs. Harris. So, selfishly, I wish she'd have picked anyone else.

Plus he he projects the image of his accomplishments because he got shit done which is what people really want to see out of their politicians.

Yeah, Trump will definitely try to claim he told Walz to mobilize the National Guard. For sure the angle will be the unrest after Floyd, but Walz did his job with those and has always been a pretty down to earth person. He's come to our college several times over the years to promote the trades programs and jobs they provide and when the '22 debate for governor was on campus.
    It's a hopeless situation...

If I'm honest I am not sure I like many of the options from a political standpoint.  I would have picked 1 or 2 people ahead of Walz...but pretty sure they know what they are doing better than I do.

The violence in MN and slow reaction is an issue as well as some other issues I have with his policies.  But, he is a normal democrat....so it could be a LOT worse.  Will be interesting to watch.

Not only do they know what they're doing better, but they likely know all all the skeletons in closets.

Just speculating here, but they must have crunched numbers and decided that it was best to save Shapiro for 4 - 8 years from now.

Yeah, maybe because it's still new, news. They'll hammer Walz on civil unrest and Covid lock downs, but that's old news and he won relection after those already. He's got labor, teaching, legislative and military experience so he checks the most boxes. It is a pretty progressive ticket though so I don't think it pulls moderates in if you look at what he's gotten done under an all dem controlled state house, senate and governor. I think it's great, but I'm sure it's going to be labelled far left socialism in the attack ads.

But will they realize 2020 was under “Trump’s watch”?

That doesn't matter to them. They already ignore Jan. 6 and Trump failing to mobilize the guard, but he's going to criticize Walz and what happened in MN. The irony is thick.

yeah I can see how they will criticize Walz on the Floyd riots response but it appears to be more of a city issue than the state.

Plus...Walz didn't do anything to cause the riots. tRump caused the Jan 6th debacle.

Plus he he projects the image of his accomplishments because he got shit done which is what people really want to see out of their politicians.

My  immediate thought was (and that's all it is, just the first thing that came to my mind), "another old white guy".  I'm an old white guy, so this is no ageist thing, but it sure seems like a TON of people have complained (and rightly so, I think) about old white guys running the show.

I'm I wrong on this?  (I hope so.)

He’s 60, but looks older. Doesn’t help that Harris looks ten years younger than she actually is.

Yeah, they look 20 years apart.
I would never have guessed he's 60.  He looks older than me and I've got 13 years on the man.
Of course, these things shouldn't matter, and I hope this doesn't make a difference.  But Americans are weird, so you never know.

Yup.  I expected someone younger as well that, if kamala wins and holds office for 8 years, could run for president in 2032... and I guess he could, but 68 is borderline a no go for me anymore.

Well, I swung and missed but that's alright just as long as there's a win come November.  I hope 🙏 that the Dems can win here in Florida. The Trumphites down here in Palm Beach County are getting unbearable.

I don't see his age as a problem. A VP isn't necessarily the next in line (i.e. Cheney, Biden, Pence).

As a State of Minnesota employee Walz is technically my boss. I’ve been able to interact with him several times in doing my job. He’s a solid person, salt of the earth type.
