Oh boy....what's happening maga? Ten year treasury is decreasing too.

Me thinks the market believes Trump is going to lose

maga world is panicking. trump probably dumped his shares so he has money to flee the country.
Its most likely a day trade sell off. It opened yesterday at $30, closed at $36, its back around $32.

I'm still trying to understand how people resent democrats for the timing of the border bill when their hand was forced by the GOP attaching border measures to additional Ukraine funding.

Blaming democrats for the timing of that feels like revisionist history, but I'm open to hearing why I'm wrong in that understanding.
When was the last meaningful legislation in regards to immigration passed?

    That's a different conversation.

You claimed Democrats waited until late in the term to do something about the border as a political move. How could that be if the GOP forced their hand by tying it to the Ukraine aid?

If your claim was that democrats only did it because they were forced to, that would have merit, but putting the timing of it on the democrats does not.

Regardless of how the measures came about, one party is to blame for killing the most comprehensive border bill we've seen in decades... the same party who demanded one last November and it wasn't the democrats.

    ahem..... look at the date.....

Well, she tried.  No stopping the will of the people.  Gotta believe Harris was a better option than Joe, and pretty much any option was better than what the people wanted, imo.

This is the problem and why the blue lost - 70 million Americans (me being one of them) are not racists, bigots, misogynist etc...

I don't recall who said it - but last night may be the very best thing for the democratic party. A complete reset and as someone who voted blue before, I agree - they need a complete reset.

It was an odd situation for sure. I love Biden but he should have stepped aside a year ago and let the process truly play out.

Nothing against Harris. I think she's capable but the dems really needed a true primary without Biden.

Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference. Who knows. But very odd to lose an election when the economy is as strong as it is.

Regardless...the people have spoken and this is what they want.

I don't think anyone could have garnered enough support and excitement to turn out the vote to defeat this Trump wave.  I think Walz turned out to be a terrible pick, but again, I don't think it would have mattered.

That kind of brings me peace in this.  This wasn't Trump taking the world off guard and snaking enough electoral votes from Hillary.  This was a mandate from a majority of the country.  This is what the majority of voters want.  There are a lot of turds who voted for trump, but there are also a lot of non-crazy people I respect, work for, am friends with, and some family elders.
In 2016, they should have leaned into somebody with ideals who spoke to the people, and had a movement like Sanders or Yang.  At worst, allowed Biden to continue the successful Obama administration.  Instead, it was "Hillary's turn" and they breathed life into Trump's political career.

At the point of 2024, there was no winning.  A primary would have exposed warts of the candidate sooner and also likely fractured the party again (they needed FULL, excited turnout).  Biden couldn't win again. Harris probably did as well as they could have hoped.
The Democrats do need to soul-search and figure out how to speak to middle-america again.  They have lost them.  Identity politics have hit their ceiling and it is not high enough.

Do everyone a favor and don't freak out on forums or otherwise.  Trumpers are frantically searching for it and basking right now.  Have some dignity and don't give them that.  Van Jones can also fuck off with his meme-generating melodrama.

If you are freaking out and depressed, just take a deep breath and understand you are powerless in these events, and have been powerless.  Take each day in the next 4 years and try to better yourself.  Things you can control.  A workout and health routine, savings and spending habits, getting more out of each day.  Maybe get involved in local politics or community groups.

Now, the Great Klan Revenge Tour begins.
Yeah and the return of the three stooges... Stone, Bannon, Miller
This is the problem and why the blue lost - 70 million Americans (me being one of them) are not racists, bigots, misogynist etc...

I don't recall who said it - but last night may be the very best thing for the democratic party. A complete reset and as someone who voted blue before, I agree - they need a complete reset.
Bullshit you voted for him you stand by him you can’t separate yourself from your vote! You might not be a racist but you agree with one! Enjoy Inauguration Day
So the 60 million that voted for Harris are all law abiding good citizens? Do you see how asinine that sounds...

Mindsets like the one you outline is the problem. More divide.
You agree with him correct so tell me what made you vote for him? What policies do you support that he will implement?

Why is it always the Dems that need to look inward and reset or fucking change? Look at what the previous 12 years of repub administrations have wrought upon the nation and world. For fucks sake, have folks forgotten how to compare and contrast?

Fucking own it. Everyone who pulled a lever for POOTWH, fucking own it.
    Hey he's FOOTWH now!

I'm with you though. The Democrats shouldn't change at all.
    Sieg Heil!
Like I said, don't change. The strategy of calling people Nazis seems to be working out great for the Dems.
Identifying with a Nazi like party and candidate is totally fine though , right? It’s ’Murica where the majority rules, right? So keep on promoting and normalizing fascism and see where that takes you. You might want to speak with a 85-90+ year old resident of Israel for some thoughts on that, eh?

Maybe get involved in local politics or community groups.
good take...you're right about middle-america. Unfortunately I think the majority is too ignorant for their own good. They get information from memes and TikTok (a lot of it Russian bullshit) rather than real news.

Bingo, and they’re lured by the promise of lower prices, lower taxes. Let’s see how that plays out and who he blames when the tariffs don’t reduce prices like he’s promised. Inflation was dropping and the economy is in great shape, perfect place for him to fuck it up.
