Part of it is the total buy in to the idea that owning libs is the most important thing one can do. Way more important than doing anything that might make life for ALL Americans better.
Well, yes, the basic tenet of “the American dream” is all about individual achievement at any cost. Which, to a centrist Canadian, seems incredibly selfish. So MAGA is that on steroids. I wouldn't know. I do have friends who voted and will vote for Trump. I think that voting for your wallet is different than the way I go. That is their choice, obviously. No. Nope. I'm not buying it. I'm not far left (TBH "The Squad" makes me cringe.) I'm not even moderately left. I voted Libertarian until 2008. I'm pro gun rights (I'm from hunting culture, I don't think anyone needs an AR), pro balanced budget, pro small government. And I'm a big, big fan of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (yes, including the Second Amendment) in particular. I'm a firm believer that what consenting adults do together is their own business, not mine, not yours, not the government's. I don't believe there's room for ANY of you gentlemen in the exam room when I'm talking to my doctor. I think drag queens are fun, not scary.
I'm an actual centrist. People in the middle, in general, want the government to handle defense and responsible spending and otherwise leave us the f--- alone and make our own decisions.
And, to be honest, I'm too busy dealing with the sh!tshow that is our lives right now to get all wrapped around an axle about how other people are living their lives. Where do people find the time and energy to get worked up about who other folks are sleeping with, how they dress, what they eat? I can barely remember what month it is.
If you still think the 45th POTUS is the best option after all the myriad issues of his administration and after, most of all, he tried to overturn election results and remain in power through force and violence, thereby disenfranchising tens of millions of people, you are not "in the middle" of the political spectrum. That's just not a thing -- that's not how any of this works.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
