  • Another writing credit for Andrew Watt. Does the band really need help writing?
Seems like most songs on the album may give writing credit to everyone in the room based on the interview info.

I don’t think this is noise.  I get the production on it could lead to that opinion, but you can still make out the separate parts, and the chaos makes the bridge hit so much harder.  Chaos into a simple bridge. Love it.

Don’t see how this could be considered a B side. I took that comment to mean it wasn’t well thought out or fully realized. I think it is.  Definitely is compared to the last three records.  Would you rather have the neutered punk of Johnny Guitar, SBWM, SuperSonic, etc?
I like this song, but think I may like SBWM better. This song fits with the Comatose, Big Wave, SuperSonic, MYM, and SBWM. Initially, I like it more than MYM, SuperSonic, Big Wave. Not sure how much I like the lyric to this one. Lot of sewage and waste, very rectal. Maybe Ed had a spicy meal before composing Running.

Not a huge fan of that new Eddie yell.   I get it though, he is about 60 years old. Middle stretch (30 second clip) is best part.
This is the best he’s sounded since Avocado. The extra syllables on the last few albums would have had him singing “dahark mahatter” and “guhot mehee ruhunning”. I’m glad he’s  past his Pahearl Jaham phase.

The rest of the band is playing great. They went for something different and landed it. The mix sounds like a live show. Jeff sounds amazing out front on these.

This is going to be so good. Can’t wait.

I think this will hit differently live, with all the band on the mic, should be good fun.

Pumped it a few times today, to and from work, wish it was a min or so longer tbh.  Apple Music gave me the lyrics so having those helped me get into the song even more. Overall a tick from me.

I really like it! Just from the 2 singles, I think I'm going to like this album more than I did the last 3.... I loved the 2 singles for Gigaton too though. Still, high hopes so far and I'm excited! The album will be a nice bday present for me. :) Eddie sounds great, everyone else sounds great. I have absolutely no probs with the production that so many people seem to be complaining about. I also don't think it sounds like Earthlings. Nor do I think it's a weird choice for a single!

Nothing speaks to the glory of the internet as people attacking one another over their opinions on a song. This place continues to provide endless amounts of amusement for me and for that I thank you all.
    +1. Superb reading.

When the whole band chants here it sounds like someone forgot to mute a random track. It just mumble up the mumbly vocals more.

Should have listened a bit more to how bad religion excelled the practice.

The end is great. But most of this song sounds like stuff they/Eddie have done before (including Olé) and not enough like I Am Mine. WHATEVER HAPPEND TO RIOT ACT :) The ”breakdown”(?) and Eddie starting singing the ”for lift off” part sounds very expected late Eddie Vedder/PJ.

Will be fun to take this song out for a run tomorrow.

The more I listen the more I enjoy it. The bridge makes this song in my opinion, wish it was maybe the chorus and repeated again in the song.
I do find it a little like a wall of noise, sometimes struggle to hear the detail in some little guitar riff or bass or drums however overall its a decent rocker.

As a non-native English speaker who basically understands the language though, I don't understand a word of what Eddie is singing. This choppy, fast vocal style, which has also been shown on Gigaton, and which seems to have made it its goal to fit in so many words per second as possible doesn't make things any better. Catchy melodies fall completely by the wayside as a result.

Haha yeah I can definitely hear some similarities
  • I am shocked peeps are saying this has no melody. I think this is very catchy as a single, especially the parts where he is singing got me running.

Repeating the bridge would have elevated the song somewhat, it acts as a great counterpoint to the frantic verses, allowing room for more interplay and melody to come through.

I always find these reactions so interesting. You wouldn’t think nearly as many people still listen to Pearl Jam for the lyrics and catchy melodies as there appears to be. They’re obviously not and haven’t been a pop band for quite some time. There’s a lot of really cool stuff from these first two tracks happening musically though. The bridge and outro in this song in particular is fantastic.

I like it - the break at 1:25 is my favorite part.  It’s going to be fun live - Matt Cameron is another standout with his fills.  They’re not wrong when they single out his playing in these promo interviews.

I don’t like the early years comparisons. Every record is another version of the band.  So far, I like this version.

Excited for the rest of the songs.

Feels like we've heard this one before. Kinda cut from the same cloth as Supersonic or Superblood Wolfmoon and maybe a few others. And like Dark Matter, I can't understand a word he's saying. But, lot of energy and some cool guitars. Besides Lukin and throwaway stuff like Pry, To, is this the shortest PJ song?

I’m never any good at hearing songs produced, then determining if they’ll be good live.  I thought Never Destination was going to be an all timer live, and it fell really flat.

I do agree that this sounds a lot like an EV single off The Earthlings, but considering the singer and producer are the same, that shouldn’t be a shock to most of us.

I don’t have a great feel either way on it.  I like parts of it. It’s short, which always frustrates me about this amazing band.  My guess is that as I start to hear it more, get a feel for the lyrics and their meaning, I’ll warm up a lot to it.  I hope it is great live,  DM grew on me fast and now I think it is great, so hopefully get the same effect here.
