After driving for over 10 hours and spending a ridiculous amount of money on a hotel room in Nobelsville not Indy like they try to say it is, feeling pissed and upset. Seems like Covid lets bands cancel shows without any remorse. Maybe they could have cancelled earlier so I could have saved money but to cancel after the merch tent opens and after hotel checkout seems suspect. Tell me the truth on what happened instead of someone is ill. I would like to know more especially if they play the rest of the tour. If it was not Eddie who was sick I figured he would at least performed for the faightful who made the trip. Again Nobelsville is not indy so when they cancelled the show the faightful had a hotel bar to hang out at since Ruhoff Music Center is the only thing to do in Nobelsville. Just want more information than the press release considering how they tell us without the fans they would be nothing. Also just selling unlimited merch is kinda of a jerk move. They could at least send fan club members who had tickets some of that merch to recoup some of our losses that include hotels, travel and the vacation days we used to make the show.

I didn't anticipate needing bereavement and a sick day in my first two weeks ever of teaching, after switching careers this yr. Life happens. They're human beings. They've been more than accommodating to fans over the years.

With all due respect, its just one of those things we may never know and it is what it is. I feel horrible for everyone who came a long way and had this happen, but it happens.

Someone was sick and they had to postpone. I understand your frustration and feel for you, but your answer is right there.

The band is under no obligation to disclose their medical information. It’s sucks someone got sick but no one owes you access to their medical files.

  • Is ‘faightful’ something I missed?

After the cancellations last tour, I carefully selected the Chicago shows because I have family and friends in the worse case scenario. I get being upset to a degree, but cancelled shows have been happening to many acts and will continue. I’m not sure why people feel they need to know specifics - someone’s too sick to play. Knowing anymore wouldn’t change anything and some people wouldn’t believe or be satisfied by more specific information. Everyone should carefully consider where they are traveling to and worse case scenarios for concerts.

It was something pretty serious to Reschedule a concert.
Iam self employed when I get sick I feel anxious to Reschedule and it effects my whole schedule.
I assume PJ feels the same way .

It’s the risk we all take when traveling for shows. These days especially.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

PJ doesn't want to postpone or cancel anymore than we want them to but crap happens. I heard they had already set up most of the equipment so this obviously was a sudden illness or someone got bad fast and felt unable to perform. They said serious..they don't owe us anything more. I'm sure they are upset and stressing about it. It sucks but we choose to travel and spend the money so always a risk

Or at one point, the sick band member thought they could pull it off, but got worse as showtime approached.    Wanted to do it but the situation got worse as time progressed.

I think it's a tough call to make.  It takes almost a day to setup gear right?  What if you felt good enough to play at 10am, but by 5pm, you were really ill.   You kind of have to make the call to cancel. It sucks, but what do you do?

The worse offender I ever had of a cancellation was GNR in 2002 in Vancouver.   Axl Rose in those days was notorious for being late.  He didn't arrive at the venue timely, and everyone was waiting in the rain outside.  Past the time you would of expected the openers to play.  Ultimately the venue cancelled the show, because they didn't feel Axl would make it in time to perform and finish for the 11pm curfew.   Axl's fault, and the venue's vault for booking a dude notorious for starting way late and playing way late (as c counter the same thing happened in Edmonton a few years later, and Edmonton left public transit up and running until the concert ended at 2:30am, they planned for Axl.. lol).

My point is I don't suspect a member of PJ would cancel for nefarious reasons.. not like other shows I've seen cancelled on me.  I'd give PJ the benefit of the doubt.     After what they did last year with replacement drummers to try and keep that tour from going off the rails, I think the deserve it :)
  • I guess from now on it’s best to really think about choosing shows that you have to travel to specially if it involves flying and hotel stays!

We flew to Europe from Dallas summer of 2022 to have both our shows cancelled.  It sucked, but it just taught me I will never travel for a Pearl Jam show again.  Have tickets to both nights in Fort Worth, my hometown so if the cancel it’s not a big deal.

Exactly. I’m coming from Boston but I’m originally from FW so if both shows get cancelled, it won’t matter much. I’ll be in a familiar place with family and friends and a free place to stay. Only way I was making this trip. I’m cool waiting for bands to come to my town. They usually all do.

My take aways from the last couple of tours is 1. Try and get tix for the beginning of the tour.  2. If traveling to a show, make sure it's a city you want to visit regardless if the band plays or not.  3.  Mentally prepare for anything happening last minute.

Now i just need to practice what i'm preaching as im traveling to Austin for hopefully both shows

Some of these threads are so odd. It's like,  "Hey,  I'm a huge fan and have tickets to my favorite band!" But then it turns into, "These greedy assholes better tell me what's really going on and it better not be Covid bullshit!"

Ahhh, when's the last time you people read the lyrics to a song they wrote in the last 20 years or seen the causes they support? It's you, you're the problem.

As if Pearl Jam’s scheme was to pretend to play a show so they could lure 18 thousand people to Indiana and just sell them merch for a show they never planned to play.

  • Just a thought but maybe traveling an absurd distance for shows isn’t a great decision at this point given the past few years? Or at least taking into account the odds a show may be postponed/cancelled and not complaining about it when things don’t go your way. I’ve traveled the states and even into Europe to see this band, but at the rate things are going I’m sitting these tours out until I see they can make it through a run of shows without something going wrong.

Being a member of the fan club isn't a great decision these days. Tickets get worse every show and now lots of shows getting canceled. And they barely tour anywhere.

Both sides of this argument are hilarious.  The pissed off fans (myself included) should know better, and the ones who say “read the lyrics blah blah blah” are equally oblivious.  Do they feel bad?  Eh, sure maybe for like a second.  Going forward, never get tix to a show that follows a known hometown show like Chicago is for Ed.  They were going to go HARD in Chicago as they should.  I blame myself for not seeing it coming a mile away that there was a damn good chance Indy was never happening.  The second that schedule came out I had my doubts and I didn’t learn. Hopefully they reschedule and the sickness is not serious.
