not sports, but relevant...and kinda funny...lol

Saw this on ebay and sent a message to them asking about the grading service, which has the same name as the seller.... (see their response below) ... This is just a home made label in a screw down case.. crazy...

The irony is that if all those cards didn’t get tossed in the trash long ago, baseball cards would be worth a lot less today.
Not entirely true.  Topps literally dumped truckloads of 1952 topps into the ocean/landfill.  The 52 Mantle is actually a double printed card.  Sometimes people just like the cards and nostalgia helps.

    What part wasn't true?

Nostalgia is great and certainly helps, but people loved baseball in the 80s and those cards will never approach the values of the cards printed before they became a collectible no matter how much people love Don Mattingly.
I get your point.  I am also stating that some cards are not necessarily rare like the 86 fleer basketball stuff or 89 Upper Deck, even 2011 topps update.  There are tons of it out there but it remains very sought after.

Now cards from the 30's and early 40's are a different animal.
I love the 86 Fleer basketball.  At the National I met the guy who is hoarding half the Johnny Moore PSA 10’s that are known to exist. He wanted like $60k each!
There are only 67 of them...  Want to hear something stupid?  There are 66 Jeff Malones in a PSA 10... And nobody goes ape shit over that one...

EDIT:  Speaking of the National, did you see the Jordan Supercollector showing off every rare insert there was?  He had them all.  I was blown away by that one.  Most of those cards I had only seen on the web.

It's not about the player.  It's that one dealer is hoarding half the known PSA 10's for Johnny Moore. So he's basically controlling the market and if you want to put together a PSA 10 set you're likely going to have to go through that one guy to get a Johnny Moore.  My buddy and I were just about done for the day and we stopped to look at a table with a ton of 86 Fleer graded cards.  I saw the Johnny Moore card on the table with a price tag of 60k and I asked my buddy why it was worth that much.  Another customer near me overheard and said it was because one dealer owned almost all of them and was controlling the market.  At that point the dealer behind the table said, "Yeah... that's me but I actually only have half of them".  :o

I didn't see the Jordan collection... would have loved to see it.
Ahhhhhhh, Now I get it.  So the PSA 10 seekers can only have like 30 complete sets.  That is amazing.

I am in need of a Derek Jeter 2003 PSA 10 card to complete my run.  There is one on Ebay right now for a cool $845.  F That.  There are only 36 of them so these are hard to come by.  I got lucky getting the 2001 PSA 10 and the 1993's came down from outer space from 2000 to under 400 now.
A Jeter PSA 10 run?!?  Nice work, Chris!!

I have an album full of Jeter cards if you’re interested in.  LMK.
Depends on which one..one of the most sought after Jeter cards is the 1993 SP Foil #278 - The foil makes it harder to receive high grades, since it scratches and the edges chipped much easier than a normal card..

I'm lucky to have one, but haven't gotten it graded, yet..... Thinking it may be a 9... (Image is graded one for sale on ebay..)

The card that started the 80s baseball card boom.
    Nice card!

Some would say the Ken Griffey Jr 89 Upper Deck started the junk wax era....

I feel like the junk wax era was in high gear by 1988.  Especially Donruss and Score.  Awful cards and so so many of them.

Junk wax is before that.  There is plenty of 1986 cards, which is the start.  87 is iconic but still massively overproduced.  1988 is the worst year of cards. 1989 is saved by Griffey rc's and nothing else. The birth of "foil packs" are upon us.  Soon gone are racks, wax and cellos where you can see some or parts of the cards and maybe even reseal them.  1990 you have Sosa and Thomas, 1991 is another awful year w a Chipper rc but still not worth anything.  1992 Manny Ramirez maybe?  Still horrible.  Ranks 2nd behind the 1988 year. 1993 has Jeter and still isn't that great. It is the beginning of super premium cards and something called "Finest". 1994 is the off year where they went on strike so people didn't buy those or the 95's.  1996 was the start of the cooler inserts and the cards ran off the presses even more. 97-99 is the same thing.  The cool inserts that were expensive are so hard to pull and so much product made that there are still cards just sitting in boxes.

Don't bother grading the Shaq.  Just buy a 10.  That one is off center and you'll get a 9 at best.  They are super tough with that card.  Any Brady is worth y of grading though.  Nice card.

I recognize that design from the 1992-93 set. I collected a lot of basketball cards back then including some I sent away for autographs with mixed results.

I think I'm going to start searching on Ebay, do a little homework, and maybe start buying some of my favorite 50s and 60s cards.
Maybe start with Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Roberto Clemente. Maybe buy some psa 4 or 5's. Nice cards, but not too expensive.
Then maybe move on to Aaron.

I haven't used my ebay account in YEARS. Does it still work the same?
What are the payment options? I think I used to use paypal?
    Does paypal still exist?
    What are other payment options?

Aprreciate if anyone here could give me some direction?

    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

example of why you don't try to mail a graded card with just an envelope. I won this BCCG Dak Prescott for .01 and $5 shipping. Which at best the buyer will make a couple of dollars if shipped in bubble mailer.. They tried to cheap out and send in envelope with absolutely no padding or sandwiched between cardboard.

The card isn't really a big deal...  was going into a stack for a birthday present. It was literally broken in half and damaged the card, so its going in the trash now... good example of how not to mail a card..

If I sell a graded card it goes in a box.  I never mail them in a padded envelope.

That seller used the eBay standard envelope postage to ship your card.  eBay came up with that method of shipping to make it cheaper to ship small flat items.  But they specifically say it’s not supposed to be used for graded cards.  One of the requirements of using the standard envelope is that it has to be thin enough to go through a postage reader.  I’m guessing your card lost the battle with the postage reader. 😂

    Need a little help here.

I have some nice 58 and 59 baseball and football cards that are not PSA graded. And I have no plans on getting them graded. I just want to
put them in some decent card holders.

What are my best options? Right now they are sitting in top loaders, that are probably 20 years old.
I am looking at the one screw holders. Are those good? Is there a certain thickness I should be looking for?
Like I said most of the cards are from the late 50s and early 60s.

If not the one screw holders, then what should I purchase?
And if you can attach a picture here, so I can see EXACTLY what I should purchase, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

I’m sure you’ll get lots of great suggestions, but I’ve been using these holders lately and love them.  No more screws - they have a magnetic closure and they make for a nice presentation of cards that you’re not going to be getting graded.  I included an eBay link - not my auction - for some of the holders.
