    cuomo defeated tonight.

the dem establishment backed him. the same establishment that got us trump and got them no power in dc.

schumer, pelosi, jeffries, it is time for all of them to step aside and enjoy their retirement. let the younger generation take over.

also, why the fuck was cuomo even on the ballot again? why do disgraced politicians always find their way back into the fold?

Good riddance. But you know the Dems can’t elevate the likes of that radical leftist communist socialist feminazi AOC and expect to win elections. If they do, they’ll never win another election, ever.

What we’re witnessing is a generational shift that is going to be ugly. Center-center right corporate Dems versus left of center progressives. There’s talent there and some excellent candidates but I’m not sure the 15% MAGA-lite and 10-18% “independents” are ready yet. Might need another few cycles of die-offs to get there. Regardless, the biggest political scandal in US electoral history, lying about Brandon’s health and cognitive decline, means Dems are out of the running for at least a century, if not longer. But if they become more COOTWHee, fuck the Palestinians, embrace the Israelis and condemn and deport the “other”, plus lower taxes for the 1% and enrich themselves at our expense, they might compete.

We just need to run a candidate like this one and implement the same policies and hire similar types of people to see it through.

the tea party and maga are a direct result of gop old head leadership that were out of touch with their base. the same thing is going to happen to the dems. if the leadership does not change, the voters will make the necessary changes for them.

this is the epitome of dem leadership's lack of self awareness. step aside for the good of the party, or get destroyed in elections for a decade.

the dem base is not republican lite. the dem base does not want leadership taking money from aipac, like jeffries. and voters will punish them by staying home or voting for a more liberal candidate, or voting 3rd party.

I don't know. I'm not reading too much into it.  18% of D's voted in this primary.  The other two candidates were seriously flawed, in many ways.

While it's a small slice of a very left-leaning city, I do hope it's a good sign that the old guard was ignored. It could also be that without the sexual harassment allegations, he wins the nomination easily.

Right, exactly.  Plus the nursing home scandal.  And of course Eric Adams was seriously tainted too.

i stand by my assertion that it is time for pelosi, schumer, and the old guard to go out to pasture. either by retirement, or getting primaried.

the dems have lost what should have been layup elections. in 2024 especially.

also they failed to run manchin and sinema out of the party years ago. if someone cannot get on board with the rest of the party they can be an independent.

I don't think things are that bad for the dems. 2024 wasn't really a layup...it should have been no doubt but inflation, etc., and a GOP willing to run Satan as their candidate got them over the mark.

We have time to regroup for 2028. I think 2026 will shift the House and give us some breathing room.

I totally agree. But I don't know that this would keep the party from trying to be centrist and cozying up to MAGA with seeming ignorance that a chunk of its old base is starting to feel politically homeless.

the majority of the party feels politically homeless. i know i do.

that party will not fight. the majority of them went on record in the impeachment vote as being ok with trump's actions, so what is the point of even having an opposition party?

I don't mind centrists.  Let's be honest, if Manchin didn't play this card for years, the R's would have had that WV seat long ago.  He can vote where he wants, but the caucus is important for leadership, committees, etc.

Sinema knew after her last election that she would not get through the primary in AZ considering her views.  So she left.  Problem solved.

Yup, “the other” versus wonky policy legislation like the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act. Or “the other” versus the Bi-partisan Border Bill.

Split the progressive vote three ways and hand the governorship to,an unqualified conservative, seems like the current Dem playbook.  Who really still believes this isn’t a scripted soap opera at this point?

C’mon, “Dem playbook?” Did the DNC, governor Hochel or the NY Dem establishment endorse this and come out for it? This is part of the problem. You’d be better off to follow the money and the egos. Time and effort should be spent on pressuring the governor and dem party apparatus to support the dem primary winner and kick all others to the curb. That said, you have to know billionaire white supremacist dirty money is fucking with things. It is not the “Dem playbook.”

A lot of that sounds right, but I don't know how much of it is scripted.  One factor is that republicans get caught up in group behavior that is fueled by limited and highly biased information sources, and thus they become more strongly united around a few things that piss them off such as LGBTQ issues, immigrants, other races, and any religion that isn't fundamentalist Christianity or Christian Nationalist.
Democrats, on the other hand, tend to be more broadly diverse in things they stand behind, and as individuals, tend to prioritize the issues that mean the most to them.
A group of people having diverse interests and concerns is actually a good thing when your talking about democracy.  But under authoritarian rule, diversity and critical thinking are considered dangerous and is discouraged.
