Have you been following this band?  They just played a bunch of live dates.  What does that mean?  At least a year off.

The near future is not at least a year off though imo.

Love to be wrong, but nothing is happening in the first half of 2023. Unless there is a festival. Maybe more Earthling dates.

We will see but it’s rare for them to come out and say something like that and it’s specific to Pearl Jam too. Maybe Earthlings and Pearl Jam with the  same timeline as this year for the winter/spring.

They have said a lot of things over the years, not that rare. None of them come true. Hope I am wrong.

Weren't there pics of "signed contracts" posted somewhere on the porch with 2023 SA dates?

There was also a clue from Dimi on FB not long ago, changed his topic from 2022 Tour to 2022-23 Tour.  Granted, Fall 2023 would still be a year away.

Exactly. Ohana is likely again and that means the fall. Completely different if they manage to release an album, but if no record, a few dates in fall around a festival or a ball park.  Again, hope I am wrong and they play Hartford in March. :)
  • Again, they are 100% playing Boston, Chicago, Seattle at the very least next year. There is just no way they skip arguably their 3 biggest cities.

could surprise and release new album in the spring, some summer shows including a couple ball parks and follow up with an mid/east coast fall tour

"Near future" translates to "forthcoming album."  I'm expecting a similar timeline, but hoping for a faster one.

Years where they haven’t gigged, so far:
    ’17
    ’19
    ’20

I expect fewer shows next year than this year but definitely not zero shows.

You can forget about a show happening in Birmingham, AL ever again drakeheuer14.  Fresno of 2022 was the Birmingham of 2003 as far as ticket sales are concerned.  The Birmingham 2003 show sold so poorly they at the last minute moved the show out of the large arena in town to a small amphitheater in the suburbs of Pelham, AL that only holds 10K.  I would guess the venue was only 1/2 full so maybe 5K in attendance total.  And being the Riot Act tour they did not even play 1/2 full.  Go figure.

Yep.  Festival or two and a few dates around it.  And they always love Europe.

You should add that it was the 2nd coldest show in PJ history and Ed was sick. Definitely more than 5k there.

Also, this was 2003 when they were touring A LOT. The band had grown since then and most importantly the fan base has gotten older and can afford to travel. Plus they don't play much anymore. Nashville proved they can have people travel from all over to sell out a show. B'Ham arena would 100% sell out if on a weekend so fans could travel in.

  • Isn’t there a song or two about a southern man and the governor and someone that PJ really likes not being wanted around anyhow? Somehow I don’t see this happening.

I wish PJ would do what Blink 182 did yesterday and just put it all out there at once. If I knew today that Pearl Jam was going to be in Europe next summer or Australia  or South America in late winter 2024, it would make planning a lot easier!

As a Birminghamian I'm enjoying talk about a possible hometown show but defo not getting up my hopes. Next year marks two decades since they played here. A more likely destination, Huntsville has an incredible new amphitheater and since it opened has wicked a lot of shows that in the past would have pitstopped in BHM.

^ to get in that many dates, they’d need to release their itinerary for the rest of the 20s.

Love that they're announcing 2024 dates.  Seems so foreign/unbelievable to me as a Pearl Jam fan.
I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.

At least they have one thing common with PJ. Here's Mark Hoppus showing which country gets left out every single time:

    Let's Play Ball

    *updated - 03/07/23
Still tinkering away, but I wanted to bring focus to the ballparks. I have a feeling we'll see 3 (possibly 4) ballpark events next year, especially since baseball is back on the upswing again.
This is the complete list of PJ ballpark dates from the past, and I think it's a good indicator of the time-frame they would utilize in order to play them. Honorable mention for Wednesday, September 28, 2005 - PNC Park (Pittsburgh, PA), opening for the Stones. Since they didn't book it, I think they'd pick Philly over Pitt.
    1. Friday, July 19, 2013 - Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL)
    2. Friday, August 05, 2016 - Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
    3. Sunday, August 07, 2016 - Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
    4. Saturday, August 20, 2016 - Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL)
    5. Monday, August 22, 2016 - Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL)
    6. Wednesday, August 08, 2018 - Safeco Field (now T-Mobile Park, Seattle, WA)
    7. Friday, August 10, 2018 - Safeco Field (now T-Mobile Park, Seattle, WA)
    8. Saturday, August 18, 2018 - Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL)
    9. Monday, August 20, 2018 - Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL)
    10. Sunday, Sept. 02, 2018 - Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
    11. Tuesday, Sept. 04, 2018 - Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
You can't rule out any day of the week (including Thursday), but Friday & Sunday seem to be the preferred choice. And always with a day between.
From the venue's point of view, most ballparks don't like working a venue 7 days in a row (too much overtime). So, if there are open dates, factoring in home games, the safe money is on 5 day week of operation (6 days max).
Here is the current schedule for Wrigley, Fenway, Seattle, Camden Yards & Yankee Stadium. Earlier in the thread, I was leaning towards the Guardians ballpark with Progressive Field, but the band has a strong connection to Philly, and Citizens Bank Park hosted a few concerts this year, so I'll include their schedule just in case.

Is this helpful? Raw data is hardly ever sexy, but as next summer & fall draw closer, we can close the net & get a better idea of what might be possible!

It’s been so long, ten years, since they did a proper US tour (they are American IIRC) not sure why they’d want to do a 2018 repeat of stadiums. Especially a full stadium tour which would involve doubling equipment, trucking and logistics costs, while most baseball stadiums can not accommodate double attendance capacity of arenas. And if stadiums are the new normal, are they going to invest in two sets of lighting and screens to at least give the tens of thousands of fans, assuming they sell out, in the rear something to look at?

Is it too much to hope for (probably is) a legit US tour of 20-24 arena dates, before another MLB stadium run? If they are winded from the 2022 run, take a year off and do it right. Give fans across their country the best PJ experience, in arenas with fans on all sides.

And…fans love to isolate certain cities as “their strongest cities” highlighting Sea, Chi and Bos. How is that possible? The NY metro area has more population than 48 states and the narrow corridor from DC to Boston has a population 50% greater than any state, and people travel from around the world to come to NY to see them.

A proper US tour should be what the fans here want. If they need time off first, by all means take as much as needed instead of constantly picking winners and losers, which is the specialty of this band.
