I feel I'm on the opposite side of the Spectrum. I've enjoyed Greta Van Fleet. I've been listening to them since they released the double EP (From the Fires). I don't really care for most modern rock music. Most if sounds bland, overproduced and lacks soul. You can't really tell one singer from another, and they bury the vocals behind the instruments.
I dunno. I love 70s rock. So Great Van Fleet kind of scratches that itch. I know there's been a few bands over the years that have been billed as sort of sounding like Zeppelin. Sure the singer sounds like Robert Plant, but at least the singer sounds like something
I got to see them do a bar show in Toronto (Rebel Nightclub) in 2018. It was a pretty good show. They only had the double EP at the time, with their first full album getting close to coming out. My only complaint about the show was that it was short (but what do you when you only have so many songs).
I guess I'll be the contrarian on this thread. I don't listen to too many modern rock bands, but I quite like Greta Van Fleet
I agree I have been a fan since I first heard them. Seen them 4 times and enjoy the 70's sound. Great up and coming band. At their shows it's been cool to see the younger crowd enjoying live rock music instead the other garbage that is out there. Of course as usual the haters are going to hate.

Music is all subjective of course, but the fact that they are ripping off Zep's sound is a pretty legitimate critique.

Don't really hate them at all, but not a fan. To each, their own.

Well, the good news is, you'll have another chance to see them when you're in St Paul for PJ.
haha... A little far for me to go. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll play Vancouver or Seattle on a weekend
GVF is a joke. The singer doesn't even sing, he just wails incoherently. And his stage presence is awful. They have talent but it is going to waste. Bands like Rival Sons and Dirty Honey are 1,000 times better.

I'm not a GVF fan, but it seems ironic to be criticizing them for ripping off Led Zeppelin when so much of the Zep catalog was lifted from other artists.

I dont know why ripping off Zep's sound would be a bad thing. Some of their hits are catchy. Like others are saying, at least they play rock. We need more classic-rock sounding bands out there IMO.

Dirty Honey is an excellent newer band as well. Love the Aerosmith influence!

I've heard critiques of LZ having ripped off other artists with some songs, but did they build their entire brand off of sounding like another act?
GVF reminds me of Godsmack who started as an AIC cover band, or Creed or any other band that seemed to simply imitate another band's sound... it feels gimmicky, like Wolfmother.
GVF immediately preceded PJ at B&B last year. Suffice it to say, and with all due respect, I did not feel any lost opportunity to secure my spot as close as possible to the PJ stage while GVF performed on the other stage.

All of this is probably even an understatement regarding GVF. When they opened for Metallica we just left. Not even a smoker anymore but 2nd hand smoke and hanging with the fun people was the better option then subjecting our ears to risk of hearing loss for that noise. Absolutely one of the worst bands to ever grace the planet.

I watched GVF on either SNL or a late night show years back, it was awful, just plain awful!
I know music is subjective, but how are these guys popular?
I know I'm an old fart but their show at B&B last year sounded like the same song for 75 minutes.
Tried a little too hard to channel Robert Plant. As in people in the audience were laughing.
We had a great day at B&B overall, but their set was a real highlight for me. Hating on their overwrought, repetitive wankery for an hour with my friends after a full day of drinking was a great way to pass the time while waiting for Pearl Jam.

I’ve seen GVF open for Metallica and that was enough for me. I’d rather have a Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening tour announcement or listen to a Zeppelin record
