Tool also plays the exact same set throughout the tour, maybe with one or two swaps. (they're also EXCELLENT live and their new songs crush).lowbudgetlush said:
Tool plays 13 songs and one of them is a drum solo. Now if tool use to play 20 songs a night and dropped 7 then we could compare the 2. Same goes with Led Zeppelin. You can’t compare them to Pearl Jam.NewJPage said:A lot of you all would have hated Led Zeppelin live if you are complaining about 23 songs in a 2:45 concert.Mansfield 6/30/08 - Wrigley Field 7/14/13 - Worcester I 10/15/13 - Global Citizen 9/26/15 - MSG II 5/2/16 - Fenway I 8/5/16 - Fenway II 8/7/16 - Fenway II 9/4/18 - LA I 5/6/22 - LA II 5/7/22 - MSG 9/11/22 - Nashville 9/16/22 - St. Paul I and II 8/31/23-9/2/23 - Napa 5/25/24 - MSG I 9/3/24 - MSG II 9/4/24 - Hollywood FL I 4/24/25 - Hollywood FL II 4/26/250 -
Maybe the most disappointing set outside of festivals in the history of the band. Multiple albums ignored. Compare it to a 2013 LB set which also had 7 LB songs and they felt really spread out and didnt dominate the show like this.
If this is the new norm and every album but 10 and gigaton is ignored outside of 1 greatest hit from vs and yield with 2 vitalogy songs there will be a lot of empty seats going forward. Even full album shows had more diverse set lists.

Yea but again, that’s nothing new for them. You know and expect that going in.estarr31 said:

100% agreed. I can't wait to hear some (a lot even) of Gigaton live, and I really don't need half dozen from Ten (I don't think i need any at this point tbh). 4 albums with nothingGet_Right said:False_Belief said:35% Gigaton. Wow.
I am ok with that, it is the 26% Ten that is getting old for me. I am sure it was a great night no matter what and the reverse mamason is awesome. Instead of death, we are alive.

Have they started playing the songs at their actual tempo again because I'd take that over 30 songs with super sped up Evenflow and GTF. At least Ed can get better vocals then.Lerxst1992 said:teflonsteve said:
I think you are right. After all, it's not like songs were scratched off the setlist because they ran out of time.chukdotcom said:
I would guess the opposite. Probably less talking and same number of songs. 2:25-2:30 long show.iamloco724 said:They were on stage for 2 hours and 44 minutes, Eddie talked A LOT.. Said he won't do so at other shows.. To me sounds like if they're on stage that long that we are likely to get an increase in song count with less talking no? Not sure why others aren't seeing that.Wasn’t Fenway 2018 about 2.5 hours and 30 songs? I know it said here 2 hr 40, but I recall there was a fairly long wait at beginning and end of show. And Ed talked ALOT.It's a hopeless situation...0 -
Were there a lot of empty seats last night? Looking at some videos and I see a good amount of red seats.0

I looked on TM last night about 2 hours before showtime and hundred of seats were still available. The LA shows still have lots too.nicknyr15 said:Were there a lot of empty seats last night? Looking at some videos and I see a good amount of red seats."I got memories, I got shit"0 -

Honestly, 23 is a bit short, but I think they're only about 3 songs away from silencing any criticism. If they had done 26 and added in Present Tense, Grievance and Save You there would have been 3 more albums in the mix and some of the favorites off of them. I think their sweet spot for a set is around 26, as long as they have no covers. Pretty sure some of those 30 song sets of past years had around 5 covers at times. It's a hopeless situation...0

First night looked cool! I’m really looking forward to Gigaton live, so I don’t mind it being heavy on those songs. As others mentioned though the lack of representation from some incredible albums is a bit unfortunate. But it’s only night 1! I think the full tour will be epic.Pittsburgh 2013

Hopefully they will limit it down to 15-18 songs per show. For us doing alot of shows per tour, those long shows are bad for the PJ after party sex orgies. We are getting old, we need to wrap it early. Let's hope they play one hour to 75 minutes per night tops. Like Iron Maiden

Their songs are fairly short, perhaps 4+ mins. A 23 set show has the feel of a 90 minute show. Fans are saying some of the solos were very long, but a set list like this is at odds with the reputation they spent decades developing. 100% their right, as is the consumers right to comment pro or con, and use it to influence future purchases. I love hearing Ed talk, but if show length needs to be cut, perhaps a podcast would be a better venue to chat with fans at length.0

Ed had a lot to say last night, and it seemed like he wanted to talk even more. I think he kept the setlist short knowing he would talk so much. At least twice he stopped Matt from starting songs so he could continue to talk. He also said that he wouldn't be talking nearly as much at the rest of the shows. This one had lots of local tales, and lots of callouts to friends and family. And he said they tailored the setlist to the San Diego area for this one. They may still only play 23-27 song sets for the rest of this leg, but i feel like this one was just different on purpose.

To me this is a big part of it. Sub to Sirius XM and they love to talk about the reputation and varied setlists which gets you excited then it's basically now 5 shows in a row that are very similar. Too soon to say it's how the tour will go but the gigaton era is stale thru 5 shows. Making me miss stadium shows already.Lerxst1992 said:Their songs are fairly short, perhaps 4+ mins.
