I don't get the whole 15 minute delay due to traffic comment. Ed did a song exactly at 7:30, followed by Plural One starting at 7:34.

Did the other members of the band just hop in their cars and drive to the venue right before the show started?

I took an Uber from Gas Lamp district around 6pm and was in the venue at 6:45 (after grabbing some merch from one of the tents)
Seats were pretty empty up until the band took the stage - maybe the comment related to them holding up the show to get more butts in seas.  Other posts here have said traffic got particularly bad as show time neared.

House lights were on during Alive and seas of people leaving while Mike is ripping the solo to that song - that was sad to see.

I never understood why they turn the lights on for the final song (or two in some places). Is that usually a venue timing thing? Kinda ruins the vibe.

That’s very specifically a PJ thing. Always assumed Ed just likes to see everybody for the last tune or two

Agreed. Never been a fan of this. It really takes you out of the moment. Nothing's gonna disappoint me more than to finally get Indifference and have them do it with the lights on.

Hoping they get giga out their system before they hit the east coast in September. Plus the songs were played in jersey already so… 3 is enough IMO

and so happy to see no covers

and I knew it was gonna be one encore. Said it on another thread.

It’s not the band that was stuck in traffic, it was fans.  They’re not gonna start playing while people are trying to get in and cause a stampede.

So the entire tour gets to suffer because they have an opening act that many people have no desire to see? RHCP worst albums all had josh. His music caters to an extremely small niche market that doesnt overlap with PJ.

I will take $5 beers outside before I take $12 beers inside and sit through 30 minutes of music I dont care for.

Better bust out the 6pm acoustic set to get us in early.

Springsteen always has the house lights on when he plays Born to Run, and I freaking love it. I love looking around the venue and seeing the looks of joy and elation on the faces of fans young and old as they're witnessing a live performance of one of the greatest rock n roll songs of all time. Some are hearing it for the first time, some for the hundredth (or more), yet they all seem to love it just the same. Some sing along and pump their fists and dance with their friends, some young ones are reaching up and holding their parent's hand as tears stream down Mom or Dad's face. It's wonderful, it's powerful, and it's community. I think Pearl Jam is going for the same vibe with the lights coming on at the end of their set.

Were there a lot of empty seats last night? Looking at some videos and I see a good amount of red seats.
I was there and it looked like a full house until the end of the main set.  I saw a bunch of older fans (I am not knocking them — I am 48 myself) leaving before the second set, and some, inexplicably, during the second set. Most of the people I saw leave were in the higher up levels opposite of the stage. Same people who tend to sit all night.  I’d be surprised if it wasn’t sold out or very close to it.  In fact, behind the stage was all full, and the time I was back there in the last tour, I recall large empty sections that were deliberately not sold.

Believe me I wish I was there,...a great show as usual for sure.  But that being said this setlist would disappoint to some degree.  To me, It lacks deep tracks, and doesn't spread through the catalogue,... No Code , Binuaral, Yield  .  Who doesn't love Ten,  but if this is for the tried and true fans, 6 tracks is a lot !! Even Flow, Daughter and Porch to take a piss! Especially with an album tour , 8 songs Gigaton.  Maybe this weekend sees  In My Tree, Of the Girl, I Am Mine, LBC, Parting Ways, In Hiding ...    Enjoy the shows everyone!  Fingers crossed for NW  shows in the fall.

Hard to judge after one show but
    - They’ve been off the road for four years
    - They’ve waited two years to play the new record

Maybe this year’s shows will be “The New Record and the Hits” (plenty of bands fall into that rut a lot earlier in their careers) and when/if there’s a tour next year it’ll be closer to what folks have come to expect. Maybe as this tour rolls on, set lists will vary they way they typically do. Even if we’re entering a different/more predictable era of this band (and I think we probably are), as long as they can keep making good records, I’ll be at the shows. In a recent interview Stone mentioned still wanting to make “The Great 21st Century Pearl Jam Record” and they certainly have not done that yet.

Pit seemed full but maybe not a ton of energy.  I wasn't in it, so maybe my opinion isnt worth much, but looked very tame.  Crowd in general was tame, with a huge number of empty seats during the encore (typical for San Diego crowds in general IMO, trying to "beat traffic").  House lights were on during Alive and seas of people leaving while Mike is ripping the solo to that song - that was sad to see.
Well after spending the night camping out and waiting all day in the sun, I would almost expect there not to be a ton of energy in the pit. The venues should eliminate anyone being able to lineup until like 10am day of the show at the earliest.

Sure seems like a good idea to me. I can't imagine it's motivating for the band when they're trying to rock out as hard as they can and the people they can see are just standing there showing little energy.

I took an Uber from Gas Lamp district around 6pm and was in the venue at 6:45 (after grabbing some merch from one of the tents)

Better bust out the 6pm acoustic set to get us in early.
this post makes zero sense and was just made so some entitled person could bitch
Someone said the show was late to start because fans were in traffic. The fans were in traffic because there is a lackluster opener. What do you not comprehend? How does it make zero sense?

We aren't required to watch the opener and hopefully the rest of the sets aren't late because 80% of the arena doesn't want to watch pluralone. We would rather be in traffic or drinking cheap beer.  I offered a solution to get us in earlier if that is the desire.

Agreed x 2.  Anyone who camped out or even got there in the early afternoon made a mistake.  The pit at Viejas is small and it was far from packed.  We walked in right before the opener and could have got far side rail if we wanted, or gotten within pick throwing distance if we wanted to be closer to the middle.  The best part about GA was the easy access to the bathroom and food/beverage area.
