I'm still surprised no one complained about the price
$35 for a double LP is not that crazy, at least in the last 5 years or so.
They were complaining about Gigaton's price
$35 and the $40 for a single LP is outrageous. Should be no more than $25.
They know they are “worth” more.  I’m sure it’s a pretty data based calculation as to what price they can charge to get it to sell fast and still leave enough gap for there to be money in it for flippers.

people buying on speculation it’s worth more than retail is a much larger driver of initial sales than I think a lot of people realise.  You’ve got to price it in that sweet spot of maximum profit while still maintaining fast sales as I doubt Walmart wants to hold on to copies in their warehouse for months or years.

Somehow forgot about that. Haha. Was really 3LP with one of the uncreative etchings on side D. I personally didn't mind spending the $35 for Gigaton. Was quality gatefold and booklet and the album itself was the best sounding (mixing, mastering, etc)  PJ album in a long time. Not audiophile by any means, but I don't have a problem paying a bit premium for a good sounding vinyl record. It's what makes the hobby worth it imo.

It does cost more than the reissues of riot act, binaural, self titled by $10

so double lp or not the prices have gone up quite a bit and gigaton was priced that way pre everything else going up in price (inflation etc)

The new RHCP double vinyl shipped was like $50. I bought it because this seems to be the normal these days. Ed's single LP was near $40. It's outrageous (especially considering how many pressings have such poor quality control these days), but I think this is the world we live in now.

I'm betting that on the 03/10/2022 newsletter we will have a "Limited Quantity" available through the 10C the same way that the Target Purple Ten was done.

I was standing in the lobby last night waiting to get into the show and saw the link posted. I was going to wait to get more information, but we still had a bit to go until we could get in, so I went ahead and ordered them. Now I am glad I did.

My original copy sounds fantastic, so hope this reissue lives up to it sound quality wise. Lost Dogs reissue, please!
Lost dogs makes sense. Yes it’s a compilation album but it’s unreleased stuff as opposed to a greatest hits compilation.

It seems most artists are not a fan of greatest hits albums as it chops up albums in a way they were never intended to be heard, as one song snippets. I really never thought PJ would be supportive of a greatest hits reissue unless the record company just did it unilaterally.  I’m really surprised by this
They owed Sony a Greatest Hits album, in their record deal. Or they owed Sony another album and decided on a Greatest Hits. Don't remember now.

I think artists appreciate the money a Greatest Hits brings in.

I now a Swedish artist who made the trade of getting all his back-catalog back from the label in exchange for one greatest hits album.
I don't think greatest hits are included in the album deals. That would be separate. Another greatest hits is due though
pretty sure their deal actually did specify a number of albums plus a greatest hits.
Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall

I suppose that would depend on how supportive the band is on a greatest hits album and the fact it’s being reissued.

Kind of what I was getting at before.  If the record label is just releasing it because they can, the band may not be all that inclined to sell it on their website.
