I have a lot of respect for Arnold. Yeah, he screwed up once, but has done a tremendous amount of good. If we are going to judge someone by their errors balanced by the good they've done, then I put Arnold on the plus side, for sure. Not to sound like a know it all, but being a lifelong Californian, I've followed the man's work closely. On the grounds of what he has accomplished vs. where he has erred, I find him well deserving of my respect. Hell, he's probably a better man than I am, so I'm not going to knock him down.
And WAY more on topic, I am grateful for Arnold words in that video that Lizard posted. Well done Mr. Schwarzenegger. Thank you!
He's the kind of Republican I miss. I didn't agree with him on tons... but he was never an unreasonable guy.
Agreed! I would add that until we get more Arnold-like Republicans we are going to stuck with an irrational and authoritarian biased Republican part (along with a rather weak, though very preferable Democratic party).

these days he doesn't even seem like a republican at all. maybe someone needs to get him a "muscles for rhinos" t shirt.
LOL.
Like this maybe?
Waaaaaaay too late. The POOTWH genie is out of the bottle. Just wait until the midterms.

Yeah, he's super into protecting the environment, helping people in need, is pro-choice, and he's supposedly come around on gay rights as well. Plus he's obviously open to changing his views over time when it seems right... He's clearly no longer a Republican.

He is certainly not a "Republican" by today's standards. But if I'm not mistaken, I believe he is still a member of the Republican party by name. My guess is that he is like many of the Lincoln Project folks who are very much NOT like the Trump supporters, but rather are people who still hope for a two party system that does not include a party that is anti-democracy. That scenario seems like a long way off, but I very much respect those Republicans by name who still hope their party will find a more centered, rational balance. Time will tell.

You don’t care if a political figure, former governor of the state of California, knocked up his housekeeper whilst married and didn’t publicly recognize or acknowledge the child until called out on it? Duly noted.
that's a private matter. I don't give two shits about it. it's irrelevant. I care about policy, you care about Days of Our Lives.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha……now that was really funny. Thank you for that

More than two dozen Senate Republicans demand Biden do more for Ukraine after voting against $13.6 billion for Ukraine
Thirty-one Senate Republicans voted last week against the $1.5 trillion spending bill to fund the government, increase U.S. defense spending and provide humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine. In recent days, many of them have clamored for more weapons and aid.
More than two dozen Senate Republicans are demanding that President Biden do more to aid war-torn Ukraine and arm its forces against Russia’s brutal assault, after voting last week against $13.6 billion in military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.
Consider Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who heard Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s emotional plea in a virtual address to Congress on Wednesday for more weapons and a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
“President Biden needs to make a decision TODAY: either give Ukraine access to the planes and antiaircraft defense systems it needs to defend itself, or enforce a no-fly zone to close Ukrainian skies to Russian attacks,” Scott said in a statement. “If President Biden does not do this NOW, President Biden will show himself to be absolutely heartless and ignorant of the deaths of innocent Ukrainian children and families.”

And China taketh away
Just can't trust China. Not in the slightest.
Not their leaders anyway. A fascinating culture and, I'm told by friends who have been there, a great place to visit, but with a long history of corrupt leaders. Same thing with Russia. It's a damn shame.

Definitely two places I still want to go to. And really, really wanted to get to Ukraine to dig up some roots soon. But unfortunately not looking to be in the cards for a while.

I got to go to the Soviet Union on a high school trip in 1987. Trippy indeed. If someone has to choose between St. Petersburg and Moscow, definitely go to St. Petersburg.

Been to St Pete. The Winter Palace was a wonder to behold. 1992. Have not been to Ukraine. Would love to. I did spend time in Estonia as they celebrated being free of the USSR. Awful to think that Putin is trying to re-establish this.
KYIV,
Ukraine — The historic center of Kyiv, usually bustling with tourists
and souvenir stalls around its pastel-colored buildings and golden domed
churches, is largely deserted these days. Shops and offices are closed,
and the city, placed under curfew from 8 p.m., falls dark and silent at
night.
Nearly half the population
left the city through the first weeks of war in a chaotic exodus that
blocked the roads and swamped the central train station. But just as
many people remained — an estimated two million. Some stayed because
they did not have the means to leave, or a place to go to, but others
did so from a sense of patriotism or a newfound defiance in the face of
the Russian invasion.
People were
still out walking their dogs in a park by St. Andrew’s Church, above the
Dnieper River on Sunday morning, even as the sound of heavy bombardment
rolled like thunder from the northern suburbs of the city.
“I
don’t want to leave,” said Galina Sizikova, 48, an architect who was
walking her husky near the central St. Sophia’s Cathedral. “I have a lot
of opportunities to do something to help.” Her daughters were grown up
and had gone to stay with relatives in Vienna and she had stayed behind
with her dog, Avrora.

About two million people have stayed in Kyiv, a population galvanized by a newfound unity and its refusal to be cowed by Russian invaders.
