That's probably 8,500 of 9,000 Russians that did not want to go to war either and lost their lives. Very sad across the board.
Very likely, no doubt. I have to jet out of here so will look for it later, but there's a good article I read this morning that talks about how this war is impacting the moral of Russian soldiers, how many of them didn't want this, how many were shipped off with no idea of what they were being sent to do, and how difficult it is for their families to keep in touch with them and keep abreast of their situation. Putin and the Russian top brass are not only criminals for invading Ukraine, they are disgusting for doing this to their own country and it's people.

Whatever the reason, it should not be difficult for both elected Republicans and Republican national security pundits to make a definitive statement: Trump’s efforts to appease Putin were repugnant and undermined Ukraine’s independence, the NATO alliance and our defense of democracies around the world. In addition to Trump’s attempted coup, his actions and rhetoric damaged American democracy, betrayed his oath and disqualified himself from future office.

What’s that Vlad? You craned your neck? I have just the thing for that. Just exorcise a couple of Zelenskys and you’ll be feeling fine in no time. You’re welcome. And hey, about that hotel in Moscow I mentioned. You know, the one attached to the gremlin? yea, that one.....

China not emerging as lifeline for sanction-slammed Russian economy By Christian Shepherd March 02 at 6:13 AM EST China’s strategic partnership with Russia has the potential to be a lifeline for a Russian economy foundering under crippling Western sanctions, but Beijing appears to be holding back over practical constraints and fears of secondary sanctions on Chinese institutions. As Russia’s largest trading partner and one of the few countries globally that has not condemned President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, China is coming under close scrutiny from the United States and its allies for its ability to undermine the Western economic coercion used to press Moscow into a cease-fire. Ma Xue, an analyst at China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), wrote Tuesday that the sanctions “provided Russia with an opportunity for cooperation with third parties and to find substitute markets to thereby evade or reduce the strength of sanctions.” But China has not rushed to help Russia soften the blow. Chinese officials and commentators have urged caution at drawing American ire and instead suggested China focus on building up its resilience against similar measures that could target the country in the future rather than helping Russia now. [U.S. targets major Russian banks and tech sector with sweeping sanctions and export controls following Ukraine invasion] China’s public stance has been to repeat its long-held opposition to sanctions imposed outside the United Nations framework, and its statements on Ukraine have charted a narrow course. Beijing has supported Russia’s position by blaming NATO and the United States while claiming that China remains neutral and respects the sovereignty of all countries, including Ukraine.

I keep hearing people and countries want to classify Russia and Putin as war criminals. But what is the point of that? Is it just a label? Would it give reason for more aide and support to Ukraine? Do they expect Outin to turn himself in? What would the realistic outcome be for doing that?
It seems like it would be just a label. But hoping it means more?
