My husband and I are ready to sell our LA condo and move to a small town where people just are…and not trying to control others’ bodies OR minds. Everything not politicized, simplicity in living, people not worrying about what others are up to, not the never-ending narcissism that seems to be everywhere. And access to great medical care.

It’d be cheaper, less stressful. Less crime too.
Lemme know when you find it. I hear Valencia, Spain is pretty nice.

That’s exactly what we just did. Been in Colorado 10 years. Crime is out of control, frequent shootings in neighborhoods, stolen cars, break ins, etc. Bought a bigger, nicer and newer house and we now owe nothing with what we gained in equity. We move in 3 weeks.
I’ve actually become a bit obsessed with Laurel, MS. That damn Home Town show on HGTV pulled me in
Not necessarily there, but the same groove. Although there would be just fine by me.
Faxxxii, we’d remain in the states. I only speak French besides English, and there’s no way I’m dealing with language barriers when it comes to my health!
I love how others purport to know my take on things or how/why I’ll vote.
It’s nuts, I tell ya.
I was replying to a likely independent blaming partisan politics for the gun problem. I don’t intend to shame anyone, vote how you wish. But if anyone believes easy gun and military weapon access is a problem, especially for our schoolchildren, there is only one way to vote. IMO. And getting a supportive SCOTUS to uphold new laws will take years, if not decades of voting.
That is one part of the problem. New laws cannot be made unless there are compromises. If you don’t think there are partisan politics that affect gun laws (pretty much every law attempted to be passed), then please explain that to me. There is too much lobbying and corruption in US politics. SCOTUS should uphold the constitution and laws, not vote by party lines. So why no independent SCOTUS nominations??? Plenty of other people have commented on some of the changes that need to be made, which I agree with. But some liberals want all guns banned. Isn’t that what Beto was spouting off during his presidential run??? Never gonna happen, so saying that is ridiculous. Opposite that, we now we have several states (predominately conservative) not even requiring carry conceal permits, so anyone over 18 can carry conceal. Regardless that this is not for rifles that cannot be concealed, IMO that is nuts. Our city, county, state, and federal agencies need to uphold the laws also, Letting criminals out of jail to commit more crimes, having increased crime, No bail, defunding police, no border control, and IMO lack of respect for your fellow human beings leads one to want to protect themselves. I own guns, all of which are registered. I am a law abiding citizen, who has only used them at a gun range, otherwise they are locked in a safe of which I am the only one who knows the combination. I have a carry conceal permit that I had to take a class to receive, but I actually don’t carry and have never carried (I want to know I have the option to do so). I grew up with guns and shot rifles as part of summer camps and with family. I am a sane professional. If the government bans the sale of new AR-15, then I would support that. If there is government buyback of AR-15, then I will gladly submit mine without hassle. BTW, I am not a member of the NRA. What would the government then do with all those weapons collected? Would they use them in wars (not automatic for military, so doubtful) and then leave them with extremists/terrorists like in Afghanistan? How many weapons did our government abandon there. Do you really trust the government to do the right and competent thing?? Criminals don’t follow the laws. Their guns are likely not registered unless stolen. People need to be held accountable for not following rules and laws, but too many times that does not happen. For fucks sake, we have politicians saying that its ok that people steal to feed themselves and their families, so why don’t we hear about grocery stores being hit for all the food isles??? And please tell me why it’s ok that the same government persons who want to defund police have their own personal security guards with guns. Stop the lobbying and paying off government with contributions to campaigns by corporations and organizations like the NRA. We need more middle of the political spectrum independent people in our government making our laws. Or at least we need compromise from both parties. So forgive me if I blame partisan politics for a big part of the problem with getting things done in our government.

I just read that Brooklyn had a no questions asked buy back where they offered $400 in gift cards and an iPad mini for a firearm. Collected 2,000 of them with long guns sent to NJ to be shredded and hand guns sent to a steel foundry in PA to be melted down. 1/5th of one month’s gun sales in NY State.

Didn’t help with gun violence here that’s for sure. But yeah, they do these a few times a year.

What do you expect in a state that sells 10,000 firearms a month? Overnight drop in crime?
first one burrough not the entire state. second being curious is now an expectation?
go back to bed. get up on the othrr side.
goddamn you are so fucking tedious with your over the top bullshit. its tiring.
You know what’s over the top? 10,000 firearms a month being sold in one state. One borough took in 2,000 firearms at one event. Think it impacts gun crime in that one borough?
Excuse the fuck out of me, did I quote you?
Your “moderation” of opinions is bullshit. Use the ignore feature, you might be less stressed.

given I asked the question that your answer seemed to try and pick a fight from. you didnt need to quote.
so whats the break down of sales in the 5 boroughs vs the rest of the state. It IS a pretty big state.

Because none of those guns make their way into the 5 boroughs, right? And instead of 10,000 a month, its almost twice that. Pick a fight? Adding context but whatever the fuck.

New York’s Gun Traffickers Choose States with Weak Gun Laws to Get their Guns
There were certain commonalities among the states that supply New York with its trafficked guns. First, all are “net exporters” of crime guns according to ATF national statistics.[32] Each also generally scores poorly on objective measures of the strength of gun safety laws.[33] In particular, these states lack gun laws fundamental to preventing illegal diversion. For instance, all but one of these states have no requirements for background checks for private sales or at gun shows (Pennsylvania, and only for handguns). And all but one do not require a permit prior to a handgun purchase (North Carolina). This is a stark contrast to the other states along I-95 south, which were responsible for just over 2% of New York’s trafficked guns combined. New Jersey, for instance, requires a permit for handguns and long guns, each requiring a background check. Even though New Jersey shares a border with and has several major arteries into New York, it contributed less than one percent of New York’s trafficked guns.
From New York’s vantage point, the correlation between state and local laws and the source of trafficked guns is undeniable. We believe the weakness of the gun laws in the Iron Pipeline states and Ohio, combined with direct access to New York via interstate highways and public transportation, has made them become the source-of-choice among gun traffickers running guns into New York.[34]
New York's Pipeline, which includes Ohio, supplies a steady stream of guns to New York State. Nearly 35% of all guns and over 43% of all handguns originated in these seven states. In every state's own right, they score poorly on gun safety laws, especially those necessary to prevent illegal diversion. With easy access to New York via I-95 and I-90, gun traffickers tend to obtain guns that begin in these states. As noted, Ohio shares characteristics with the traditional Iron Pipeline states in that it has weak guns safety laws and has easy access to New York via interstate highway. For this reason and since it contributes 3% of all guns and 4% of handguns, we include it in the New York Pipeline.

Don’t know if they specifically trace the guns in the buy back but it would appear that the state has looked at the issue of firearms coming from out of state.
NYS has been known for years, that loose gun law states are the culprit. Same goes for Canada. The infiltration is a result of lax gun laws in the bordering states in the US.
