I am glad that Rand pushed on the origin of COVID-19. Think about how for a while Facebook wouldn’t allow you to post stories that suggest the virus anything but natural. Scary stuff. We don’t know the answer but at least the government now acknowledges it may have been lab generated.
I guess we have to take the good with the bad regarding freedom of speech.
I'm not sure what you mean by that last sentence. "Freedom of speech" as outlined in the Constitution means that you cannot be thrown in prison by the government for your words. That is an unequivocal good.
"Free speech" absolutely does not mean that Rand Paul or you or I or anyone has a right to go on YouTube or TV or Twitter and spew whatever comes into our heads. Social media can ban anyone who is violating their terms of service. News channels can refuse to give air time to nut jobs and conspiracy theorists. We have a right to protest, but that does not extend everywhere. You do not have a right to abuse Trader Joe's employees over their masking rules because "I have free speech!" Too often, people misconstrue "free speech" to mean "I can say what I want, when and where I want, with no consequences." That's not how it works.
I was a little lazy but mainly meant it that we are free to have ideas and talk about them without retribution from the government.
At some point though these private companies like Facebook and Twitter get so large and engrained in society that I don’t like the idea of a few non-elected individuals getting to pick and choose what people can talk about. This isn’t like some mom and pop business. These are services that dominate national and world communication and information sharing.
FB was banning articles referencing the virus starting in a lab. They only stopped when one political party said it was okay to talk about. That is scary stuff. The origin of a pandemic creating virus could not be discussed during a pandemic.
I don't buy into the complaining about social media. It's not a govt entity. There's no world where their right to free speech (and what not to allow) is trumped by yours. That's total bullshit. Go to Parler. Go to Gettr. Start your own company destined to fail.
Just be glad that your views are generally the views of the elite right now. You may sing a different tune when it isn't and your views are pushed to smaller sites. I can say this while still being happy that Trump was kicked off Twitter and FB.
Again, Twitter and FB banned postings about a theory that the US government later said was a possibility. The two largest information sharing sites in the US (I assume). But hey, they are private. A few non-elected people can decide what the masses are allowed to read.
I don't know what is worse. The people in government shaping our future or less than 10 tech company CEOs. I really don't know.
What ever so precious information is going to be on Faceturd or Twitter that wouldn’t be reported on in any major media outlet, domestic or foreign? And what right do I have to use someone else’s private platform to spew my nonsense, opinion or fact based “theory?” People need to get over the fact that their/there/they’re opinion matters and needs to be “heard.” If you think that, write a letter to the editor. Like Wobby. Or be like Lyndon LaRouche and his adherents and hand out photocopies of your rantings in front of the post office.

No one is stopping you from reading it. And I don't get my information from social media. And last, I'm actually familiar with the Constitution so even if my views are a minority, I will never think that a private company must give up their rights for mine.

So….did you get the upgraded chip as suggested by @oftenreading? Hope all went smoothly.
I’m good so far. My 5G is superb. Arm hurts from the needle which is expected. Wearing my mask indoors as I should. Hand sanitizer at the ready. Got my 10,000 steps in today.
I hopefully am good to go my friend. TY for asking.

You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater. When people are spewing lies that harm the public health and welfare I don’t have a problem with private companies stepping in. I’m general I agree that people should have an outlet for stupid opinions and theories. But this is an international health crisis so I think the standard is and should be different.

Awful. If they get through customs…Typos, unfinished words… no one is looking that closely when they are rushing you through security at a concert or theater or anywhere.
“Forging the cards is a federal crime, punishable by a fine and up to five years in prison for forging government seals found on the card.”
What is the punishment for those buying & using the fake cards?

So we can print trillions due to the pandemic but we can’t print uncounterfeitable vaxx cards. Makes sense in america…I guess. Maybe we can get a refund on Afghanistan?

It's pretty sad that we have to think about stuff like that. I'm not sure it was top of mind when this was trying to be rolled out ASAP...but I guess it should have been. They have all the records...perhaps develop cards and mail to houses? Or better yet, develop an app for a digital card?

But do you really hold back on the vaccination process while you build a fake proof, centralized federal system? That seems like a bad idea. A few fakes is less of a risk than stalling the process of vaccinating.
