I admire their resolve in not backing down on this, even if their principles are fucked at least they are sticking to them.  I'm curious to see how long they hold up the process, if their demands are met, or if McCarthy backs down, or if they back down.  It's very entertaining.
I'm going to predict that McCarthy either backs away or he accepts some sort of deal with the democrats. More likely he backs away....but damn I would love it if he agreed to fuck over those 20 dipshits by keeping them off of committee assignments. Jordan and Scalise would still be running free but at least the complete morons would be kicked in the nuts a bit.

If he caves to the 20 that means he is accepting a gov't shutdown related to the debt ceiling. That's what they want.
I wonder if the majority of Republican voters want McCarthy?  Are there any polls out there?  It would be really interesting if he doesn't even have the support of the voting base, and it could lead to more republican losses at the ballot box in the future if he decides to railroad himself in.  I'm thrilled with what we are seeing.

If McCarthy gives some major concession to the Dems, and they decide in unison to vote 'present', does that lower the threshold so McCarthy wins with 201 or so?

What I had read said that Dems floated the idea of getting him to Speaker if he would agree to not fuck around with the debt ceiling vote.

    That seems reasonable as hell.

let this be a lesson to all potential speakers of the house. if you are an asshole to the opposite party, they are not going to come vote for you when you need the votes.

i can't believe mccarthy can live with himself after 10 Ls. if i were him i would resign my seat and i'd go live a quiet life out of the public eye because i would be so mortified and embarrassed.

mccarthy moving into the speaker's office is like the time costanza did not know if he got the job or not so he just showed up on monday, picked his office, and started working on the penske file.

like costanza, mccarthy is not penske material.

Unlike Costanza, McCarthy took the big office though.

Hahaha.....actually if he doesn't get the speaker job, he should pull another Costanza and just show up the following Monday hoping everyone else will just assume he's speaker. And if all else fails, he should spike Matt Gaetz's drink.

Just wait until they fuck everything up. Everything. The Ragin Cajun was so right on.
the dems should 100% not bail them out. this is their problem. the dems are united and i believe they are playing chess while the republicans can't agree that water is wet.
I would still support a Dem bailout if the magats were kept away from any major committee control and McCarthy guaranteed not to fuck with the debt ceiling. Those 20 fuckers want to shut the government down using the debt ceiling as their ridiculous display.

There's no way Jordan doesn't get the judiciary.  He's been next to McCarthy the whole time, so it would be unrealistic that he wouldn't get it UNLESS the final speaker is an enemy of McCarthy, but I don't think that's likely.

If Dems bail them out McCarthy will not stick to any promises.  That would be the stupidest thing they could do, opening the door for impeachment and Huter's lap top...and who knows what other hijinks.  Let the Rs sort out their own mess.

If he did not follow his promises, then the D's could call for a new House speaker and start all over again.  Remember that's a concession already extracted, moving the number to five members vs a majority for a no confidence type of vote.  The D's would absolutely protect themselves that way.
