What would declaring a National Emergency do? I'm not versed much in US or global politics, nor economics.

    Myoung,

Might I suggest you flag my posts so we can determine if they are fishing/trolling.

Bernie Sanders said that he thinks the President should declare a National Emergency. This will invoke special powers. I think this would allow more power about situations over ships that fly non-US flags, such as Disney, who are not cancelling trips amidst social-distancing.

The cruise industry is quite relevant to the Covid discussion. I have learned that if Vancouver/Victoria shuts it's ports, that many US sailings cannot get to Alaska. This is why my upcoming US sailing (which will be postponed if it can't get cancelled) will stop in Mexico.

I think most people here have pretty much said you should shutter the cruise.  It seems foolish.
    the end...

Yes guys, thanks. Yesterday, the forum gave me more reasons than social distancing as to why going is foolish. I thought last night I might have even passed some of that wisdom on to other posters who thought getting the bug earlier might be better.

Today, I was questioning why, amidst all the closures, this isn't cancelled and posed that question to the carrier.

So, yes the end. Have a good night guys.

My co-worker’s sister was recently in Italy. Leaving Italy, she was required to test for the virus. Entering the U.S. (San Fran), nothing. No different than if she had flown in from
Indiana. Could the U.S. have fucked up the testing for this virus anymore than they did? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no. We STILL can’t properly test.

All of the state colleges in MN have now decided to suspend classes for a week (2 with spring break week) and work on plans to prepare for possible online delivery. We'll reevaluate the week of the 23rd to see what happens come April. Going to be a crazy spring.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I thought it was crazy at Costco a week ago. I can’t imagine now. It’d be like the level of panic if all losers of the pj lotto got injected with covid-19
Stopped at Trader Joe's tonight after work, yikes. Frozen, dry goods, produce and toiletries were non-existent. Grabbed the last bag of frozen broccoli. No TP and signs already in place asking people to only take 2 packs. Insane and we haven't even hit the bottom yet.

I work in a teeny tiny school district, and based on the Gigaton seat map at my local theater,  =) , there could be people reading this thread and then telling my school board I criticized them on the AMT. Let me just say that my school board is putting a high-poverty, vulnerable population at risk by delaying the close of school while the professionals "get trained."

So hard to read this and not want to react in fear by buying! I'll stick to another week of fresh fruit, though. sigh.

I work at Costco. Today was insane. Lines all the way back to the meat dept for most of the day. I fear for the weekend. I feel like I'll be going into battle tomorrow.

Australia shutting down. Postponed STP, Bush and Live concert till 2021. Sydney royal Easter show cancelled, F1 Grand prix cancelled, all social gatherings and sports events over 500 people cancelled. Welfare recipients to receive a $750 bonus plus businesses a $25,000 injection to keep employees on trying to keep us out of recession. Covid -19 numbers rising by the day

I'm no expert but I think shutting down as much as possible is the way to go.  That seems to make sense.  My own approach is to only go out when necessary.   What other choice is there?
