I picked up different seasons wanting to read the "book" for Shawshak, having no idea that "the Body" was Stand By Me. The latter caused me to like the movie a bit less because the book (novella) was so terrific.mrussel1 said:

Nice Stand reference..
But I gotta tell you, Apt Pupil is one of the most disturbing things I have ever read, heard, seen, etc. That is not for everyone...0 -

Thanks for the reading tips. I gave up my King run as a young teen halfway through the Stand. But I'll check out Art and River's old movie/book. Shawshank was always special for me as that's maybe the only movie I ever watched with my dad, after he got out one time, so I'm gonna not read that one.I was swimming in the Great Barrier Reef

S O C I A L I S MSocial Minister Lena Hallengren said at her press conference that the government is ready to impose meeting restrictions - but that requires a request from the Public Health Authority. To TV4 News, the authority's director general Johan Carlsson says they want to impose meeting restrictions as soon as possible. It can involve meetings of 500 people - or less.- We are looking at the opportunities that exist, both the legal opportunities and the special conditions that exist in different parts of the country to find a solution and the ambition is that the government decides on this as soon as possible, he says."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

I made my second attempt at the gunslinger a few months back (25 years or so later) ... I'm like 90% thru still waiting for the story to hook me but it hasn't ... I was hoping it would be like the 1st season of The Wire where you slug through an average appearing cop show and all of a sudden you are binge watching season three at 1 am on a Sunday ... but I don't really like any of the characters in the story so farBe Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

I think we'll be okay up here in MN. a lot of the kids are set up for distance learning due to snow days.mcgruff10 said:It was inevitable: meeting tomorrow on “distance learning”.
The company I work for also sent out an email today reminding everyone to make sure they are set up to work remotely. Fortunately I already work remote and self quarantined.0 -
Do your kids have one on one computing? I think every kid grades 3-8 in our district has one. The tough part right now is how to teach k-2. Maybe just huge packets of dittos? Not sure. Will find out more tomorrow. I m guessing they are going to tell us to get two weeks of plans together.CM189191 said:

Hell if I know. I just know the districts around here put a bunch of contingency plans in place a few years ago because we lost a bunch of days due to snow. I'm sure it's not a perfect system, but better than the alternative.0 -

The MAC and Big West are announcing they are playing to empty arenas in their tournaments (insert joke about how no one bought tickets in the first place).
There is a lot of money in NCCA March Madness. Some would say it's a shitload of money.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -

Well, this testing criteria will sure keep the numbers low
"Due to current testing capacity limitations in Texas, at this time, public health laboratories in Texas will use the following criteria to prioritize testing of persons at risk of COVID-19," the statement reads.
COVID-19 testing labs have been set up in Dallas and Tarrant counties.
According to the new THHS criteria, a person will be tested if they:
- Show signs of a fever OR signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness AND has had close contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient within 14 days of symptom onset
- Show signs of a fever AND signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness, AND has a history of travel from affected geographic areas within 14 days of symptom onset OR has risk factors (like diabetes, heart disease, receiving immunosuppressive medications, chronic lung disease or chronic kidney disease that put them at a higher risk of poor outcomes)
- Show signs of a fever AND signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness requiring hospitalization AND no source of exposure has been identified
Signs and symptoms of a lower respiratory illness include a cough or shortness of breath, according to THHS.
On Tuesday alone in North Texas, "presumptive positive" cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Dallas and Tarrant counties, and the CDC confirmed three cases in Collin County, bringing the total number of cases in North Texas to five.

Not sure if this has been posted here, but Vox has this great 10 min. video explaining COVID-19 and other viruses and why they keep originating in China. Merely the facts. Some international pressure must be placed on the Chinese government to change these practices immediately. It is affecting the entire world.
