It was inevitable: meeting tomorrow on “distance learning”.
I think we'll be okay up here in MN. a lot of the kids are set up for distance learning due to snow days.
The company I work for also sent out an email today reminding everyone to make sure they are set up to work remotely. Fortunately I already work remote and self quarantined.
Do your kids have one on one computing? I think every kid grades 3-8 in our district has one. The tough part right now is how to teach k-2. Maybe just huge packets of dittos? Not sure. Will find out more tomorrow. I m guessing they are going to tell us to get two weeks of plans together.
Hell if I know. I just know the districts around here put a bunch of contingency plans in place a few years ago because we lost a bunch of days due to snow. I'm sure it's not a perfect system, but better than the alternative.

The MAC and Big West are announcing they are playing to empty arenas in their tournaments (insert joke about how no one bought tickets in the first place).
There is a lot of money in NCCA March Madness. Some would say it's a shitload of money.

"Due to current testing capacity limitations in Texas, at this time,
public health laboratories in Texas will use the following criteria to
prioritize testing of persons at risk of COVID-19," the statement reads.
COVID-19 testing labs have been set up in Dallas and Tarrant counties.
According to the new THHS criteria, a person will be tested if they:
Show signs of a fever OR signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness AND has had close contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient within 14 days of symptom onset
Show signs of a fever AND signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness, AND has a history of travel from affected geographic areas within 14 days of symptom onset OR
has risk factors (like diabetes, heart disease, receiving
immunosuppressive medications, chronic lung disease or chronic kidney
disease that put them at a higher risk of poor outcomes)
Show signs of a fever AND signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness requiring hospitalizationAND no source of exposure has been identified
Signs and symptoms of a lower respiratory illness include a cough or shortness of breath, according to THHS.
On
Tuesday alone in North Texas, "presumptive positive" cases of COVID-19
were confirmed in Dallas and Tarrant counties, and the CDC confirmed
three cases in Collin County, bringing the total number of cases in
North Texas to five.
Not sure if this has been posted here, but Vox has this great 10 min. video explaining COVID-19 and other viruses and why they keep originating in China. Merely the facts. Some international pressure must be placed on the Chinese government to change these practices immediately. It is affecting the entire world.

I tried three different stores today to get hand sanitizer. All sold out. I have a little bit though.
I've never used it. I know it got into peoples consciousness here after the Swine Flew. Then it started plopping up in work/public toilets and stuff. before that I had never seen it other than in hospitals... maybe...
I guess I can snatch one from work if I need to...

See now? It's comments like this that give socialism a bad name.
The government has decided to remove our "qualifying day of sickness" (introduced in 1993) so people have it easier staying home if sick, and the government will pay for that first day of sick leave - SOCIALIIIISSSSSSM @CM189191

Obsessed. You take my post as defending trump. All I’m saying is it seems easy to blame him and even easier to leave China out because of the stranglehold they have on the world. Man there are some loonies out here. I can’t imagine being that obsessed with a president. You make the birth certificate wackos seem normal.

Just got a text from the animation studio I work at. Everyone who can work from home should not come in for a few weeks. And at my other job, we are forced to bring our laptop with us home every day just in case.
I still have a fucking christening to go to, so I still need to take the train and travel and be among 90 people in a church.
Yuck.

no Mention of China in Ed’s letter? Why? They are global bullies. And they caused this. The world needs to stand up to them.
Are they touring China? Must have missed that announcement.
Yeah no reason for any of that in the letter.
I do agree with the sentiment that the world should have discussions with China regarding this. And businesses should take this into consideration for future as well. There is a cost to that low cost labor and propping up that government.
