I don't see how that is financially possible. 1 month of covering salaries has got to be eat up the budget for the entire year. Its all nice to hear and sounds great, but where does that money come from? DO they pay these salaries for a month then government shuts down for the rest of the year? I just don't see how that is possible.
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you don't spend 55% of your entire budget on war.

I thought it was idiotic when I heard heard about this comment. I finally just watched the clip. And I don’t think that’s what he was actually saying. I don’t think he did a good job of talking about it. But I think he was just saying destroying the economy is going to have a bigger impact and seniors can worry about themselves. He didn’t say reopen the economy today and let seniors die. He said if it’s closed more than 3 months we may have irreparable damage to the economy. I agree with that. And that Seniors can take care of themselves. I wouldn’t have phrased it that way, but I also agree. Many stores already have senior hours before they open.
I would say before we destroy our economy and create more harm, the economy should reopen. And those who are high risk, including seniors and those with immuno diseases, should continue to self quarantine and utilize things like senior shopping hours. Because at some point destroying the economy will destroy lives too, we need to get back to more of a normal before we get to that point. That doesn’t mean just sacrifice seniors.
Listening to his entire segment that’s what my take was on it anyway.
I don’t agree at all sorry but I’m listening to MD’s I work with fuck the politicians I’m not going to go on their advice they can screw themselves! Like I said let him go and volunteer at a senior center or at testing stations let’s see him get close to the fire..

I'm with you on this.  I don't work in a hospital, but a good percentage of my clients are doctors and I'm gathering information directly from them.  I base my thoughts on what medical experts are saying and nobody else.

Whoa, we have a center-right government in Germany? They got that wrong, thank goodness. Center, yes. Center-right, no.

True, but what is the income tax in Denmark?
I just googled it, average over the last 20 years was 65%. It’s also amazing what you can afford when you tax your citizens an astonishing 65%.
That didn’t seem right, but saw it posted in several sites.
and if they pay 75% of their salary, then tax them 65%, they really are paying less than half.

Whatever they pay. Post some metrics where how they do it in Denmark, in relations to the security and care for their citizens and care for the planet, would be worse than a "yippie -  low taxes"-country.

So in , in what way way is their income tax of negative effect? Seems like they e.g. can make it a tad better for their citizens during corona.

EDIT: Maybe that was not  the point of your post.

    Anyway:  my point: STOP WARS.

Australia closing bit by bit for anyone interested.. still refuse to shut us down completely. Yes we are just as confused as most would be reading this🙄  They didn't give us new figures with the update except that the positive covid19 numbers are rising fast. I expect new numbers tomorrow.

Nada... that's not propaganda.  I mean maybe some Russian trolls are pushing it through the channels, but that's something you hear lots of real people say.

    What is confusing?

Maybe Aus is struck harder than Sweden, but we have pretty much the same restrictions....
Well it would make more sense watching the live update I guess. No more than 5 can sit in a group at the park and must sit 1.5 metres apart yet malls and shopping centres with hundreds of people is fine?

Tens of thousands of Volvo workers have been laid off, and the state goes in with compensation for missing wages. At the same time, AB Volvo plans to pay dividends in the billion class.

    - This is what the system looks like, says press manager Claes Eliasson.

Sometimes you need some more socialism.

yeah that is pretty much the motto of the democratic party at this point. vote blue, no matter who, down the whole ballot.

no russian propaganda arm needed to convince most of us that anything, anybody, is better than trump and the gop at this point.

Yes ofc. But that is beside the point. Me saying VOTE GREEN NO MATTER HOW MEAN because of my own reasons =/= Norweigans trolling with it to keep us Swedes from competing in the fish market.

But is it reasonable that AB Volvo pays almost ten billion to the shareholders, while you receive 300 million from the state a month for employees' severance pay?

    - I cannot review the reasonableness of the Board's proposal. On the eighth of April, the AGM will vote on the proposal, we will come back when we know the result, says Eliasson.

Annelie Karlsson, Social Democrats' group leader in Parliament, is critical of Volvo's actions:

    - I thank you for the greed and selfishness that this proposal demonstrates. As obvious as it is that we all, through the state, help companies and employees in this global crisis, just as obviously, all citizens and businesses take responsibility and use the support as needed instead of abusing it. The latter also includes shareholders, she says.

    Here's the litmus test imho:

If for some reason Bernie were to actually win the nomination, most Biden supporters would support Bernie. Because while Bernie is clearly the lesser Democratic candidate, he is still better than Trump.

Bernie supporters have been indoctrined to support Bernie or no one at all. Who does that benefit?

Some of these may not make sense to people overseas but there are the numbers from yesterday in Aus. Our Government and opposition are working together on this.

If we were to look at a larger blue state like the one I live in, that tend to provide services to its residents, when you add up all taxes, income fedl state local, fica, property and sales taxes, excise taxes and on... the effective rate is probably close to 50%.

now let’s add on the cost of college and healthcare, you are probably right at that European rate of 65%

but Euros don’t have to worry about bankruptcy issues to the extent we do in the states caused by healthcare or excessive college costs. Plus they don’t have slow as crap trains and pot holed roads because their 65% covers infrastructure modernization.

Let’s make sure to keep the same skepticism about her as we did others that have self diagnosed.

Not to start a debate on different countries and all that comes with that on this board. And I do not know how accurate this forbes infographic is, but here are at least some numbers. I do not know where the 65% thing comes from.

    Her “diagnosis”.

When it was being used to push the right’s  agenda, it was immediately dismissed. This should be just as swiftly dismissed.
