I’m pretty disappointed they didn’t ride the Zappe train. The D has been lights out and the offence seemed to have more rhythm with BZ under center.
Guess we will see how it all unfolds, but the offence under MJ has been pretty lethargic.
Disagree… I think the Zappe we saw in the 2nd half of the Bears game is the real Zappe. The more film teams got on him, the less effective he was going to be. Jones has the better skill set / higher ceiling.
Training camp 2023 will decide who the future is. I am not wowed by Mac.

Were you not around for Mac's rookie year then he had the 8th best completion percentage in the league and made the pro bowl?
I agree he's having a tough sophomore season, but there's a reason he was drafted in the 1st round and Zappe was drafted in the 4th.
There's also 8 more games to be played this year... it's a bit early to start making predictions for the 2023 training camp.
Yeah, I was around. I thought he was terrible the last five weeks and has looked pretty awful this year. Like you said about BZ earlier, the tape is out on him.
Strange argument on what round a guy was drafted in (it doesn’t matter to Bill) when the GOAT was drafted by this team in the 6th rd, 199th overall and won 6 SBs.
8 more games of mediocrity on offence. I guess you are loving the red zone inefficiency. Are you Nick Folk’s nephew?
Ignore my predictions if you don’t agree, but it’s an open completion for the starter job next year.

According to Belichick, every position is up for grabs in every post season, so your prediction about 2023 training camp isn't the boldest.
You're correct that in the end draft class doesn't matter, how they perform on the field is. If you think however that he's going to draft another Tom Brady, well... good luck with that.
Personally, I'm not much into predictions, but I know the NFL season is one of attrition. Maybe they improve over the next 8 games, maybe they regress; regardless, I'm going to wait for them to play the whole season before rendering a verdict on 2022 & talking about 2023. I don't have all the answers, but I know this much: benching a QB only 6 starts into his sophomore year after the rookie year Jones had makes no sense. It may not be enough to impress you, but a rookie ranking in the top 15 for passing yards and touchdowns, top 10 for completion % and making the pro bowl is pretty f'ing good. You don't give up on a player like that after 6 starts in a new system.
RE: ignoring your predictions... you've compared Bailey Zappe to Tom Brady and you suggested this year, like in '01 they were going to ride the backup to post season success. They couldn't even ride him to success against the Chicago Bears... so yeah, safe to say I'm not going to be putting any money behind your predictions playing out.
How could you possibly think my feelings are hurt if I don’t take any of this shit that seriously lmao. Apparently you do, so this sure seems like more of a you problem.
I like the Zappe kid. Like the story. Imagine if Bill found two star qbs in the fourth round or later. That’s the magic of sports… those stories.
Heard him interviewed before the draft on Sirius XM by Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan. Don’t even listen to channel 88 that much and was about to change the channel and then the kid said something that made me listen. After the interview, and this is no joke, I thought to myself, this is a Patriots draft pick.
Then he gets drafted! I’m pretty pumped by the pick when the talking heads are questioning it. Then he goes from third stringer to almost beating Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Then he is really good in two straight starts. I’m getting excited.
So I had a little fun in this thread. I don’t think Jones is the answer, and Zappe may not be either, but I have a hunch there is a little magic there. Some hunger.
it isn’t always the most talented who rose to the top, it’s the one with the grit, the determination. I’m on the Zappe train all the way.
I can understand rooting for a kid and a story, what I can't understand is giving up on the a player who was runner up for the 2021 rookie of the year only halfway into his 2nd season.

It's as if last year never happened.
The team was 10-7 last year. They faded (badly) down the stretch. There was little to be excited about. I don’t think Mac Jones is the answer.
You seem to think he is. All of that is fine
You can simply agree to disagree. I was never trying to convince you that I was “right”. I was simply excited by the team for the first time in a while and that was because of BZ. Considering how dead this thread has been, others were feeling the same. Mac Jones isn’t terrible, just lacks the “wow” factor. I feel that grit and determination to be the best is missing. My observations from watching him on the field and on the sideline.
I think he is going to end up slightly better than Prime Andy Dalton.
But I’m a defensive guy first anyways, and Judon is a beast. Barmore is my guy. Lawrence Guy is money. McCourty a legend. Those early 2000s SB teams are favourite of all time. Bruschi, Harrison, Law, McGinest, Seymour, Warren, Johnson, et al.
Despite your assessment of Mac Jones' wow factor, grit, and determination to win, benching him halfway through his second year after the rookie year he had would be foolish.

Still get a late first for him. Be a wise move for BB
Jones was 23 for 27 in serious winds. Offensive woes weren't his fault. He was sacked 6 times. Usually reliable kicker had missed 2 FGs. Main issue was the OL. Whoever the O-line coach is surely can't be a rocket scientist.
Agreed. Prior to the punt return for a TD, I was hoping the kid would come out and get us within field goal range. Mac n cheese wasn’t cooking.
The only way anyone was scoring in that game was a pick 6, scoop and score, or a return to the house. The Pats offence was putrid, the Jets offence was non-existent.
That 2021 QB class may turn out to be historically bad. The antithesis to 1983.

The Zeppalo seems better in the scramble and with pressure on, plus his passes have zip. In that last potential drive, he might have been the answer. But we’ll never know. Mac n cheese reminds me of Bledsoe and standing still while Zeppalo reminds me of Tom but with the ability to scramble. I want to see more of him.

If people think Jones had a bad game against the Jets, they should take a look at how Rodgers or Allen fared against them earlier this year.
They have a damn good defense, and deserve credit for the game they played. Maybe Zappe fares better than Rodgers, and Allen, and Jones against that D in those conditions, but I wouldn't have bet on it.
Man... the lack of red zone execution is maddening though. This has been an issue all season.
The slide with one timeout at the end of the first half and the sack on third down before the two minute warning in the fourth quarter is exactly why I am not sold on Mac Jones.
Mac n cheese doesn’t feel the pocket collapse and holds on to the ball too long and gets sacked rather than throwing it out of bounds. And he’s not a scrambler. Rebuilding and a practice year. Playoffs would be nice but I hate one and done.
