    Perfect for the onion.

Definitely don't want good jobs in the city.  Can't let capitalism win.
It all works out for AOC. The jobs go elsewhere and she gets those people to pay for a living wage for her people that are unwilling to work.
Did we ever determine if that was actually in their release or was it fake?

Do you think she doesn’t want that?  Regardless? C’mon now.

Jury is still out for me regarding AOC. I want to like her. I do like her by default. But I'm annoyed by what I consider her utter lack of preparation for the job. Almost Trumpian. She's starry-eyed and full of enthusiasm, which is great. But she sure does have a lot to learn about real life. She's about 1/2 year older than my daughter, so I view her from that perspective. I want to encourage her to work for what she wants and to set high bars. But I also want to encourage her to use restraint and understand that she needs to learn the game before she can play it. She's made a number of foolish and naive moves, and has been swatted with the rolled up newspaper by Pelosi. Hopefully she'll learn quickly and can become not only a voice, but an effective voice for meaningful change.

She's pushing the old democrats with bold ideas and I think that's a great thing. I agree she has a lot to learn but she seems like an honest player (and on the right side of the issues and fight) and we could use more of that type in positions of power.

And she pisses off a lot of Republicans, I like that, a lot.

Her ideas sre literally the worst thought out of any politician, save for Trumps, that I have heard. Pretty sure ahe is trying to make a bame for herself, unfortunately she is going to be right beside Bernie Sanders in the public court of opinion.

Just an added bonus, but not the goal.

And just so were clear, I'm not a democrat.

“When the community wanted to negotiate, Amazon said ‘all or nothing.’ They bailed when they didn’t get 100% of what they wanted,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Google came into NYC just fine. Amazon wanted to be Foxconn.”

Huh, shes pretty new and she’s already calling the kettle black.

She might learn some negotiating tactics, here suck ass.

Someone said it earlier, but I am starting to think she's the left Trump (without the overt corruption and philandering), inasmuch as she uses overheated rhetoric and invents connections between events.

Yup. And it goes to show people don’t hate the tactic if they agree with the politics. Scary

It's a public company, there's a board of directors and shareholders.  The state would earn that back many times over without a sniff.  They could have rebuilt the subway infrastructure which is in dire need in that area.  The state and city are both refusing to put up the money.  While you're right, Bezos could have paid the tax credit, now there will be nothing.  I'm sorry, there's no scenario where it's net net positive for 25k planned job, high paying jobs, leaving.  No matter how many ways someone spins what amazon could do. Now they'll do nothing.

Sure they took a stand and lost the jobs. What a tremendous victory of principle for the white people who didn't want them there.  And the 75% of minorities that did, lose out.

So you think AOC and the others would have been perfectly fine with Amazon coming in if there weren't any tax breaks?

It's a public company, there's a board of directors and shareholders.  The state would earn that back many times over without a sniff.  They could have rebuilt the subway infrastructure which is in dire need in that area.  The state and city are both refusing to put up the money.  While you're right, Bezos could have paid the tax credit, now there will be nothing.  I'm sorry, there's no scenario where it's net net positive for 25k planned job, high paying jobs, leaving.  No matter how many ways someone spins what amazon could do. Now they'll do nothing.
And the tax payers won’t be subsiding someone with a net worth of $130+ billion and who’s corporation pays an effective tax rate of 3%. Sorry but it’s obscene.
Sure they took a stand and lost the jobs. What a tremendous victory of principle for the white people who didn't want them there.  And the 75% of minorities that did, lose out.
These guys don’t need tax breaks or tax credits to create jobs. Just build the HQ with your own wealth. Immoral.

So you think AOC and the others would have been perfectly fine with Amazon coming in if there weren't any tax breaks?
Probably not completely fine, because the issues around housing costs would still exist, but likely a bit more satisfied that the rich weren’t just getting richer.

So if I said to you... hey I know I promised you a thousand dollars,  but if you don't make me pay now,  I'll pay it all back in the next two years.  Plus two of my friends (ancillary economic activity) will each give you 500 bucks a year,  and after the third year,  you'll get 1000 bucks a year for the next 25. You'd say... fuck that,  I know you have a thousand bucks in your wallet.  Pay me that now or leave.

Please explain to me why any company or individual worth amazon or Bezos worth needs tax payer subsidies? Why do they need public funds to create jobs when their own net worth and value is way more than sufficient? They’re no longer a “start up.”

Well no actually, they’ll just go to another location. It’s competitive to attract jobs.

It ain't a loan, it's an investment.  See that's the problem with how the local NY politicians viewed this.  We didn't see this as a giveaway in VA, we saw it as a huge ROI opportunity, and teh chance to increase VA's foothold in the tech market, pulling it from the west coast.

This. A public corporation has a fiduciary responsibility/obligation to maximize shareholder return. So if they can benefit from some cost savings it makes sense to do so. If they can't find those savings in one place they'll go find them somewhere else. And as mrussell has pointed out, those incentives that municipalities create can lead to additional ancillary revenue streams, allowing them to recoup those incentives over time if done right.
