I have a couple that, while they typically don't make me cry, bring tears to my eyes - Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here', Pearl Jam's 'Black', the Beatles' 'Let it Be', and while it doesn't make me cry, 'Masters of War' by Bob Dylan (and Pearl Jam) has always been a song that makes me think and depressed.

The last song that made me cry was "You Had Time" by Ani Difranco, and the last Pearl Jam song that made me cry was "Man Of The Hour"
"And, when the doctor said I didn't have worms any more, that was the happiest day of my life."

wow, that video is so sad. i also know almost nothing about johnny cash but i know this song is truly beautiful. The video, basically a flashback of his life, is just so unreal. knowing he died shortly after making it adds also to the power of the song, but its just so beautiful, the song by itself can make me cry every time i hear it

Same here, I get real emotional over that tune

I knew nothing about him but that song (& the video for once actually adds to the song)
now i'm right into him, the essential collection is pretty good
    Johnny Cash is a LEGEND!!!

Also the Boss' American Skin (41 shots) made me cry just today.
Also any song that is made/sung by someone who is no longer alive anymore gives me a little teary - Lennon, Nina Simone, Jimi, even a Bonham or Moon the Loon drum solo
I had it all once I gave it back

I want someone soo bad it hurts...Then this song came on!
It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed
    but memories...they eat me
    I've seen it all before,...
bring it on cause I'm no victim.

I lost my best friend to suicide and although 6 years have passed, the emotions are still raw....

    Say Hello to Heaven

    Please, mother mercy
    Take me from this place
    And the long winded curses
I keep hearing in my head
    Words never listen
    And teachers never learn
Now I'm warm from the candle
But I feel too cold to burn
    He came from an island
And he died from the street
He hurt so bad like a soul breaking
But he never said nothing to me
    So say hello to heaven

    New like a baby
    Lost like a prayer
    The sky was your playground
But the cold ground was your bed
    Poor stargazer
She's got no tears in her eyes
    Smooth like whisper
She knows that love heals all wounds with time
Now it seems like too much love
Is never enough, you better seek out
Another road 'cause this one has
Ended abrupt, say hello to heaven

    I never wanted
To write these words down for you
    With the pages of phrases
    Of things we'll never do
So I blow out the candle, and
    I put you to bed
Since you can't say to me
Now how the dogs broke your bone
There's just one thing left to be said
    Say hello to heaven

I'm on the verge of tears now.....

Agreed. This video does it for me as well, and his wife being in it but dying before it's release then him dying soon after, it was like a good bye from him...chills...

it was last week after I bought the new Coldplay cd...it was like Chris was singing to me (okay I guess he could relate them to Gwenyth - but whos keeping track)...either way - sometimes lyrics are so powerful you can't help but cry when you hear them because somehow it fits what is going on in your life- here it goes:

    Fix You -

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
    Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
    Could it be worse?

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

High up above or down below
When you too in love to let it go
If you never try you'll never know
    Just watch and learn

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
    She takes...just like a woman...yes she does
She makes love just like a woman...yes she does
And she aches...just like a woman
But she breaks...just like a little girl

for me it was a few weeks ago when i was listening to "Kepp On Rockin In The Free World" from the Pinkpop fest in 92. I was just reallu into the show and when KORITFW came on i sat there entranced just really listening to the words and i couldnt help but shed a tear. It is such an amazing, heartfelt song.

Befor that, if i remember rightly, it was Stone Sour - Bother and watching it with the film clip is even worse.

    Just yesterday...

    "My Immortal"

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
    But you still have
    All of me

    You used to captivate me
    By your resonating mind
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
    Your face it haunts
    My once pleasant dreams
    Your voice it chased away
    All the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
    I've been alone all along

SP, Blissed and Gone, the unbecoming lp, summer 2001.

[this is w.out the 1st verse]

    I had no luck
    I had no change
    It went so fast
    Seventeen days
    Of rain
    And you, you were mine
    Just one more song
    To slay this earth
    And I can't explain myself
    Just what it's worth
    It's all I have
    And I'm all I need
And I can't explain the fact why I still bleed
    It's all too steep
    Without you now

    Baby I need you around
    Baby I need you around
    Baby I need you around
    But I had no chance

    I had no crime
    I had myself
    I had my hand
    I had my love
    I had my soul
    I had my friends
    I want you
    It all falls apart

    Baby I need you around
    Baby I need you around
    Baby I need you
Baby I need you right now
    Baby I need you around

OMG! You have no Idea what a Sinatra fan I am YER...
My way is so tinged with sadness that it always leaves me a little emotional.

When I was in my 20's and going through that idenity crisis you go through in your 20's I used to have dinner parties and the only thing I would allow to be played was Sinatra...it made the atmosphere a little more classy I thought...aah memories... ok Im gonna cry ! I better stop lol :D

This particular song has an extremely sentimental meaning to me.

Frank was in a class all his own,to be sure.

Then this ones for you my friend ;)

    My Way -

    And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I’ll say it clear,
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain.

    I’ve lived a life that’s full.
    I’ve traveled each and ev’ry highway;
And more, much more than this,
    I did it my way.

    Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

    I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
    I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
    I faced it all and I stood tall;
    And did it my way.

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried.
I’ve had my fill; my share of losing.
    And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

    To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
    No, oh no not me,
    I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
    To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
    And did it my way!

    October 2003.

The man came to visit me just for my birthday, and after I drove him to the airport and was coming home, Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" came on and I lost it.
    Underneath this smile lies everything
all my hopes, anger, pride and shame...

Sandy Denny's BBC Sessions recording of her song "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" does it every time:

Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it's time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming
I have no thought of time

For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving
Ah, but then you know it's time for them to go
But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving
I do not count the time

For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

And I am not alone while my love is near me
I know it will be so until it's time to go
So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again
I have no fear of time

For who knows how my love grows?
And who knows where the time goes?

Wow! I never thought I'd find Frank Sinatra fans on here. Awesome! Last song I cried to was RVM. I cried out of frustration. I had a horrible break up and RVM always helps me through it.

When I first heard it, I thought it was beautiful.
Then my friend commited suicide and all I can think of is how I wish I could have been there for him. Every freakin time I hear it!! I get that lump/throat thing.

I am too emotional to begin with so I'll just stop now. If I sit here and ponder more, I'll end up with an entiree book of songs that make me cry.
