it happens daily.... everywhere... all of the time.... but we all know who Mollie is nationally, and are discussing her here now because of why I wonder? this case was regional and became national as soon as the perp was undocumented, how is this not obvious? its feeding a xenophobic fever spreading across this country and a lot of the globe right now, that's why we all know who this poor girl was
there are approximately 17,000 murders annually in the USA, how many victims can you name?
drilling for fear, keeps the job simple
It is because this story is specifically an illegal immigration related issue, which is a major concern for a lot of people right now. The side note fact is that if this person was not able to get in the US illegally, Mollie would probably still be alive...
So what’s the relevance regarding illegal alien crime stats in Texas again? Further, why did it take the OP until Mollie’s body found and a perp identified to post his alleged concern for the victim? It had already started becoming a national story at least a week or two before that. I think I know why.

This case has been headlines for weeks on yahoo. I've been captivated by it because it is scary as hell. I could care less if the murderer is black, white , red, yellow, citizen or non -citizen; I hope a jury of his peers finds him guilty and he gets the maximum sentence allowed by law.

What do you think of this idea of regular people making up a jury?
Find it so weird. And bad -- especially after that OJ documentary where the jurors bluntly said that they freed him as revenge.
Just a question. Out of curiosity.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
@unsung Why did you wait until Mollie’s body was found and a perp identified to start a thread about her disappearance and murder?
to be fair to unsung, it wasn't known that she was dead until they caught the suspect.
But his original post was posted after he knew she was dead. I’d like to know why then that he created a post voicing concern? My original question to the OP is valid.

I would like one, just one, person to lay out exactly what "concerns" them about illegal immigration where it doesn't have to do with skewed stats about crime or unemployment.
It is bad enough that we have to deal with crimes committed by actual citizens, but having to deal with ones committed by people that shouldn’t be here in the first place is where I get frustrated. It is just another factor that burdens our resources and makes it harder to address crimes by US citizens when you are having to police other country’s citizens as well.

It's a tough question to answer bud, regular people....I get the law and I get what it is intended to do but man some of those jurors. I just don't know.

I was captivated by the Tibbetts story because I can't imagine my daughter taking a jog and just disappearing. For some reason it made it to yahoo and I kept going back to it hoping they would find her. My heart goes out to the family. I guess the difference between the story you posted and the tibbetts story is that people were hoping that she would be found alive while your story they had already found the body. The story you linked didn't make yahoo or even nj.com from what I remember.

Who do you think makes up the jury ... just regular people...
First off there was NO mention of Elizabeth Warren in the article. Second did this part of the article resonate at all with you?.....
"Numerous studies have failed to demonstrate that immigrants, legal or otherwise, pose a unique threat of committing crimes. In fact, some have shown that undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native-born citizens. For documented immigrants, that number is even lower.
That hasn’t stopped people from seizing on another powerful anti-immigration anecdote."

Classic unsung cultural warrior nonsense thread. Right wing outlets have conditioned people like him to freak out whenever something like this happens.

Exactly. Any excuse to as the post above says, "generalize a whole population." Right wingers salivate over this stuff.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

They live for this stuff. People are murdered every day in this country. Should we devote a thread to every one of them? Or only the hot attractive girls killed by illegal aliens?
Her views are well known, but still an illegal killed her. Her opinions did not mean anything to that animal.
Stephen Craig Paddock was an American citizen. He shot and killed 58 people last year. That animal.
I never understood the argument you are trying to have. Yeah this guy was an illegal immigrant who murdered someone, why the need to bring up a white murderer? Did anyone ever say he wasn’t an animal ?

Way to try to minimize the crimes this person committed and lives he has ruined. Do you know Elizabeth Warren by chance?

I'm sure the Tibbetts' consider your study a consolation prize, after all the odds were more favorable to her.
