I'm not sure what is happening here, but Jesus Christ. A man died. Someone who I disagreed with on most things and who made many awful decisions. How many of us here could spend 5 years as a prisoner of war in a foreign country and still function as an everyday citizen, let alone in the public eye? My God the internet sucks.

I hear you! Some of the posts on AMT over the years have been brilliant, kind, inspiring, and so forth. Many are at least interesting or humorous. But now and then, some just reach a low place in the gutter.

And how many innocent people suffered from his decisions ...
John McCain was not a good human being ...
one US senator does not make war alone. So, who, really is responsible? Arizona voters? Or the real dark state?
Has he ever opposed war? As a former soldier, did he make it his life mission to oppose war? Not that I know of. He had first hand knowledge of the horrors of war, yet he still supported sending troops in foreign wars knowing full well the horrors war...
No offence voters are dumb .... I never blame the voters. Voters are lied to from all politicians.
But lets blame the voters who have try and choose between who is the lying least. In Arizona case that was McCain...

He made peace with those who tortured him for five years. Can you forgive?

Maybe he thought war was the most effective way to make reforms to the world. I disagree with the approach, but I do believe his desires were good. At least good enough to not rhetorically dance on his grave.
Also fuck that shit. Blame the voters. Lied to every time, explained how they’re lied to every time, and still surprised when they’re lied to? Anyone intelligent in the country shares the blame for allowing the populace to become so fucking stupid. If you can’t blame voters when the people they elected don’t act accordingly, you’ve failed at a democratic tenet - that populations hold their politicians accountable.

What is lower than the gutter Brian? As most of the vile hate filled discourse on here is just your basic ignorant fear based trolling.
Classless folks up above , in other news there’s still 500 children in prison encampments and folks here are stomping on a man who just died how About we all call our representatives and ask when will the kids be reunited? You guys do care about kids no or because they are brown maybe some of you don’t ? How about we let the McCain family mourn in peace ✌️
Why can people not speak ill of the dead? There nothing special about McCain. His votes in senate lead to misery around the world. This man is in a party that does need see health care a human right, not that the democrats do either ...
As a former soldier, it unconscionable that he didn't stand up against war...
No mandated universal system; no mandated insurance coverage
McCain says he thinks affordable health care can be made available to all Americans without a mandated universal system. McCain said that he doesn’t think government-run systems such as those in Canada and in Europe will succeed in the US. “I think it’s a warmed-over proposal that we rejected back in the early 1990s and I’m certainly not interested in raising people’s taxes,” McCain said, adding he also is opposed to requiring everyone to buy health insurance coverage. “We’ve got to make health care affordable and available. There’s plenty of ways to do that.“
He said he’s been working on a plan ”for a long time“ but ”it’s a very tough issue.“ One way, he said, would be to expand community health centers and the S-CHIP program, offer tax incentives for poor people, put health care online, medical malpractice reform and promote health savings accounts. However, he said, one problem getting everyone covered ”is there’s a lot of healthy Americans that say I just don’t want health insurance.

This man had universal coverage paid for by YOU. And he doesn't think YOU should have universal coverage.
But medical experts and health advocates say they are also grateful for what McCain has done to raise the profile of glioblastomas ― extremely rare, cancerous brain tumors that fewer than 13,000 Americans will be diagnosed with every year. The senator’s family is also receiving praise for highlighting the challenges that relatives and other caregivers face when a loved one has this type of tumor.
I regret that John McCain didn’t live long enough to see Trump go to prison so he could say “I like presidents who don’t get captured” on national TV then high five everyone in the studio.

He got rich on the taxpayers, period. Being in the Senate is not some thing that deserves a trophy. He served himself, just as 99% of them do.
