I’d like to wish all the pilgrims and turkeys on here an awesome Thanksgiving with your respective families or in solitude, if the case may be. Eat well, enjoy the time and be safe. I’ll wrestle you for the wishbone. You’ve got three days to recover, hopefully. And I mean this personally (even to my Canadian friends who aren’t celebrating).
This is a good post for you Halifax- taking a small step back. It's important to remember that nobody here is the enemy (something that I think we all know and understand... but fail to acknowledge in many instances).

I turned on the TV just now. The so-called "Thanksgiving message to the troops" turned into an airing of grievances about the 9th Circuit. WTAF. I started growling at the TV and my husband made me turn it off.
Compare and contrast with Arnold Schwarzenegger's visit to Butte County, CA, yesterday, where he talked about the traits and values that make America great, thanked the first-responders for their tireless dedication and long shifts, mentioned the countless volunteers, and listed a variety of charities who are helping people affected by the fires, including World Central Kitchen, which is providing Thanksgiving dinner today (along with many thousands of other meals over the past few weeks).
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

The lengths some go to play devil's advocate is nauseating. Especially when it is apples to oranges.
This.
There are a handful of people here who post just for the sake of posting, and for stirring the pot.
I feel like this is a big percentage of our (USA) goddamn idiot population.
Quit stirring the pot. Nobody thinks that you are smarter because you can present a different viewpoint. Quite the opposite -- you make problems worse.
Care to point out or show an example of what you mean ?
Not really.
We all know who the people are who continually play the role of Devil's Advocate.
I do not think it is bad for people to have different opinions, at all...just agreeing with Smellyman about those here who argue for the sake of arguing.
(You are clearly not one of these people -- you are strong in expressing your beliefs! )
Drop names son, who are these bastards?
I can only assume that these "contrarian" posts are directed at me, but I can't be sure since I'm not being mentioned by name.
It's not argumentative, it's challenging someone's viewpoint based on a perceived partisanship that wreaks of hypocrisy.
and I am getting fucking tired of seeing people called sexists/racists/etc just because they criticized a woman or a person of colour. like no one but white men can be criticized for their character. like any time someone criticized an israeli viewpoint or political decision you are an anti-semite. I think most of us are above that shit. it's a lazy criticism and wastes everyone's time by escalating the argument to something personal and unfounded.

I have taken the ocassional break, but not because of specific posters or what people say to/about me. it has more to do with the overall negativity that this place can sometimes get swallowed up by.
I appreciate the sentiment, though.

How is mentioning someone's wife and daughters not making it personal? Shouldn't family be off limits?
Because he’s mentioned his family in a context and I wanted to know if what he stated about Hillary would then apply to his wife or daughters, ie, their success or accomplishments are predicated on who they married/marry. If he wouldnt say or assume that about those females closest to him, why would he say it about Hillary? It’s kind of the same thing regarding sexual harassment in the workplace training I’ve taken where they say to ask yourself if your comment to a co-worker would be appropriate to your mother, daughter, sister, aunt (use male versions of same) and if not, don’t say it. For the record, I didn’t call him an oppressive father, sexist, misogynistic or whatever else he claimed I called him.
I mentioned I had two daughters and a wife in the context that cincy was right in the post he made criticizing making fun of a woman's appearance because she's politically disgusting to (the general) you. I suppose mentioning I have two kids and a spouse makes them fair game in any context moving foward.
good to know.

Happy thanksgiving.
my thanksgiving was a month ago.

Here come the posts where people defend this...or are we at the point where he is indefensible?

He's not doing that this year.
Last year, the turkeys made fun of him and he got mad.
Cheers bud!
I want to play hookey so badly today and watch football.
